Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I don’t know if this is a section exclusively for advertising paints or anything.
I’ve been considering asking for talented painters in the community to make designs for cars that I haven’t seen anyone make yet. These would mostly, if not entirely be replicas of other cars from franchises such as Gran Turismo, Need for Speed, earlier Forza games, etc. Problem is, I’ve never done this sort of thing before and I don’t know if there’s any guidelines or things that I have to keep in mind when doing so. I don’t want to come across as unreasonable.
There are a couple of concerns I have been wondering about if I do ask for paints. I would like to pay for each design I request. I have a lot of designs I’d like to see made, so it just wouldn’t feel right to me if people offered to do them pro bono because of how many I’d want. Offering my own credits in return would make it more of a fair trade in my eyes, but I don’t really know if that’s the right mentality to have. My questions are:
How much should I pay? I’m more than happy to scrape up 1,000,000 credits for each design, but I don’t know if that’s enough or if I should pay more than that. I have seen some people asking for up to 20,000,000 credits in auctions in FH3, so I don’t know if that’s the norm or not.
How would I transfer the money? As far as I know, the best way to transfer money to another player is through the Auction House. However, I’d have to consider the price of the car being sold and how much the auction tax is (if there is one in FM7), and I don’t know how exactly all that would influence the price. I don’t want to short-stuff a painter because of these outside factors.
Is there anything else I should know when it comes to asking for paints? Like I said, I’ve never done this before and I have no idea how it all works, so any guidance in the matter would be much appreciated.
I would imagine the price would vary from one design to another. Taking into account the complexity of the livery & what value any given designer/painter places on their time and effort. There’s no hard and fast rule based on what other people are prepared to offer or request.
You’re right, Credits can only be transferred via the Auction House. In previous games commissions were often only made as one offs and therefore only available as an auction so you wouldn’t need to worry about calculating the AH tax as the price would’ve already been agreed.
Some people only post links but posting pictures of the livery you want is probably the only ‘must’ in my opinion. Try to choose a mix of close up shots which show different angles of the car & make them as high res as possible. Painters spend a huge amount of time & effort researching logos/images for their own designs but always appreciate anything that helps cut that down so that they can just get on with painting.
The only other advice I’d have for people making requests is that a “please” & “thank you” can go a long way - but you’ve got that covered
