Livery payback.

I have been getting almost daily messages to say that my livery designs have been used by the community and that I can receive credits if it continues. How often does this happen before any money appears as I have been getting these messages for quite a while but so far there is no sign of extra cash.

Thanks.

Garffy.

I’ve had a credit payout like once in 9 months i think, despite high numbers on some vinyls. Unless you’re a big name painter or get a turn 10 pick, it’s an uphill struggle.
Some tips to help;
Keep an eye on the monthly rivals events, see what cars they are using and do paints/tunes for them. Paints on the theme of the even will do especially well, so if it’s a motorsport event like bathurst, then do race paints. If it’s muscle car event, do those kinds of paints etc.
Another is the check the leaderboards in game to see which cars are popular and do paints for them.
It’s a bit of moot point now, but whenever new cars are released it’s always good to paint them right away as people will be looking for paints.
Promote yourself in the fantasy/race paint sub-forums.
Enter Turn 10 competitions for paints.

Those things should help you get some recognition, and hopefully some credits.
I just haven’t the time right now to do all of those things. :frowning:

You will gain credits by the number of uses your paints get each day, but it needs to reach a certain number of uses each day before you earn anything. How many uses? I have no clue. I get roughly 12,000+ credits a day from people using my designs. I have 3 Turn 10 Selects. That will definitely help you earn credits

Do you only have to hit the trigger once or every time.

I think it’s 150 uses or something so if I get 150 uses then everyday after that should I earn something for each use?
Or
Do I have to get over 150 uses every day to earn some credits?

I only have like 6 paints out but quite a few vinyls. I get good feedback though but have never earned a penny from it. :frowning:

It’s a tough system

Vinyls dont count towards the daily payouts.

Yeah, it seems you only get paid for paints, for vinyls you don’t get anything. Never been confirmed by anyone official as far as i know, but that’s how it seems to work.

Correct, paints only. No credits for vinyl usage.

The payouts are based on daily usage. So you have to have a paint used at least 150 times (I think, might be less. I know the amount is different between tunes and paints) in a single 24 hour period to get a payout. If in the next 24 hour period you only get say 20 uses, you get squat again.

There are also tiers, so if you have 20 uses, no payout and freelance status. Then 150 uses, payout and professional status. 500 uses I think is the next threshold so bigger payments and the next status (never had it so don’t know what it’s called). If the next day you don’t have enough uses to maintain the previous period you drop status.

It is a very unforgiving system, and makes it almost impossible for the vast majority of players to earn anything. It only favours the big, established names in the community and those that stick the exact same, uninspiring, effortless livery onto every DLC car the moment it was released.

It is indeed a system with many flaws. Only being able to search paints for the car you’re in is very limiting too.

Agreed, one of my biggest frustrations. The whole ‘we curate the best content for you’ thing is a joke. All it finds are single colour cars, or ones with CF hoods and the odd sticker bomb made entirely of default vinyls.

FM4 was great, I would often find great work just by browsing the storefronts, checking players to see what else they painted. I often found myself buying a single players entire storefront because I liked their work. Now I can’t even find if a player has more than 1 car painted unless I buy every car in the game, get into each car one by one and search their gamertag. Sorry, I don’t have 3 years to spare…

The rewards for painting now are pathetic. That said, the economy re-balance made it so easy to get credits that payments are unnecessary anyway. I really don’t see any upside for painters and tuners alike, other than just doing it for the love of it. Which many seem to have lost.

Same goes for photographers - the gallery hasn’t been updated for what seems like forever. Having people actually find your shots is one in a million now.

Thanks very much everyone!

I will look into this some more but it does seem like this is a tough way to earn some extra money.

Garffy.

Tough aint the word. lol

I used to buy cars just for the paints. I found some brilliant rides this way that i wouldn’t normally have gone for. This curated storefront never updates, nobody seems to even pay attention to it from the dev side. Always the same basic plain paints that got in right at the start so nobody else can get a look in.
Again with Horizon 2 by the time europe/asia/australia get on the game the american players will have filled the storefront with 3 days worth of junk mostly and it’ll probably sit there forever again.
Just searching for a phrase like ‘avengers’ or metalllica’ etc should be able to bring up all cars with those paints/keywords. It’s so limited in scope now it’s like T10 have tunnel vision.

I’m pretty sure the number of usages required in a day to get paid is somewhere between 20 and 50. I know it is more than 20 as I had designs get 20 usages in a day without getting paid. I know I’ve been paid on a day that I had no more than 50 usages though.

Enter the livery contests to try to get Turn 10 select is the best advice. When they judge the livery contests it has become clear to me that the base paint scheme on the car means more to them than great logo work. If you have a perfectly recreated race car with excellent logo work but very basic stripes for the base of the livery you won’t win. It really sucks that way. Way more time goes into logos than base paint but they don’t recognize that when picking the Turn 10 select winners.

Even with a Turn 10 select it is a struggle to get paid. I made Turn 10 select from the last completed livery contest and I think I’ve been paid 2 or 3 times in the two weeks since. The design that won was over 150 downloads, nearly 200 usages, and 15 likes last night.

Tip, drag designs and tunes. Drag racing can build up usages fast. Make some good drag tunes or paint some cars commonly used in drag racing and usages build up way faster.

One other thing, get your friends to follow you. If someone that follows you buys a car that you have shared a paint for your paints will show up in the recommended designs. That way they will see your designs without searching for you every time.

Keep in mind that you won’t get payout unless it’s for one livery… You’ll get the same notification for multiple liveries until you hit a threshold…

I’m 99% certain that this goes on total usages of all your liveries per day. I don’t know the number of usages but I know it is somewhere between 20 and 50 in a day. Whatever that number is, let’s call it 50, if you have 50 liveries that get one use each in a day you will get paid for this.

I track my usages pretty closely. I can say with 100% certainty, that hitting a number of total usages does not turn on payments. I got the 500 usages badge without ever getting a payment. I have liveries that I have obviously been paid for that got a few additional usages that did not earn me credits. It is purely getting the required number of usages in a day. Don’t get enough the next day you don’t get paid. It is a daily threshold.

This website gives a good explanation of how it’s counted: http://www.xboxachievements.com/game/forza-motorsport-5/achievement/84124-Painting-By-Numbers.html

Your paints have to be used a minimum of 100 races in a calendar day (midnight GMT) to start earning you credits. It maxes out at 150 races.

This is also true for tunes.

My experience is 100% without question different than that. I know that I have not had 100 usages in a day on nearly all of the days I got paid. I have maybe gotten 100 usages in a day one time.

Yeah … pretty sure that the minimum to get paid is not 100 uses in a day. I only have a handful of shared designs with even a hundred uses in total each … yet I get paid almost every day. And I can echo the sentiments from a couple of posters who mentioned entering a livery contest and trying to win and get the Turn 10 Select prize. That design will be featured as a recommended design and very likely will get tons of usage from that alone. I recently had a design selected and since that design got recommended by T10, my design payouts have really increased … up to 25-30K credits a day.

Thanks again all!

I appreciate everything and I will continue to share my colour schemes because I simply enjoy designing them. If I ever get some monetary payback for them then that will be a bonus.

Garffy.

I have 209 uses from my design that made turn 10 select. I have a total of 3 designs that have reached 100 plus usages. I do not get paid every day. In fact, I didn’t get paid today. I can verify that a day happened before my design reached turn 10 select, I had exactly 1 design with over 100 usages, it got no additional usages that day but another design went from 3 to 54 usages and I got paid that day. I guarantee the required daily usages is less than 100. I also guarantee that a design reaching 100 usages does not mean it will pay you if it gets 10 additional usages in a day, with which I am saying that there isn’t a threshold a design can reach that guarantees payment for all new usages.
