This is something that’s been bugging the life out of me, frustrating me to the point of nerd rage for months. Anyone who’s raced at a highly competitive level on Prague Full, (I think) will understand exactly what I’m referring to here.
The penultimate turn on Prague Full is a chicane which you hit at high speed, the guide markers suggest a natural path through the chicane however you can hit the bend… near enough stroking the near side wall and maintain full throttle through the turn. However! More times than not, you’ll get a lap DQ for it. However! Sometimes you won’t! And this is what is driving me nuts. You may say well don’t cut the corner, you’re not meant to? Well, there is a line you can take effectively cutting through the chicane, and you’re never going to achieve a max efficient time without taking this line, if you slow down and snake through it and you’ll lose a couple of seconds.
I’m currently ranked ~10th in R Class on Prague Full in the Ferrari 312, I’ve lapped Prague thousands of times, more times than I’ve pulled out my own driveway. I’m racing for every split second, but the amount of times I’ve hit that chicane and had to rewind and try again, only to hit it at the (on face value) exact same point and NOT get a DQ flag, it makes no sense to me. I often have to rewind 15-20 times per lap just to get through that bend, then when I get through it I’ve no idea what the difference was in the racing line to the failed attempts.
So my question, if anyone has any suggestions, is what exactly does the game look for on this bend when throwing out a DQ? What is the logic in this turn?
See the following images. Image 1 is a picture of the bend showing the angle of approach… like I said, this could be fine, or it could throw a DQ. Image 2 is the guy currently ranked No.2 on Prague Full taking the bend, look at how he’s practically engaged in foreplay with the wall, yet that wasn’t a DQ. Most if not all the high ranking times will be cutting that chicane as displayed.
I know what chicane you’re talking about. I hit it EVERY time I get to it as long as I’m not in danger of wrecking someone or myself. IMO I think it may have to do with your car bottoming out or all of your tires leaving the track? I’m not really sure to be honest. Just my guess.
Yep that chicane is a beast what I try to do is set a clean lap through it then gradually take a more and more aggressive line.
I know EXACTLY what your talking about with sometimes your clean and sometimes your dirty. I’ve rewound and taken the exact line through with different results. It comes down to how you hit the curb and if your tires get too airborne it will dirty your lap.
That chicane has given me the most grief but also the most excitement out of any corner in the game.
Wild guess - haven’t thought about it. Maybe Forza DQ’s is more of a cumulative thing instead of an automatic DQ evaluation in every turn. If you rewind, you reset your DQ scorel back to 0.
In other words, you are collecting DQ points during your lap and by the time you hit that last turn you used them all up and the slightest mistake, your are out. The other explanation is when you get into a turn (whatever), Forza makes a random calculation to decide if you are DQ’d or not.
Probably over thinking it and probably is how you hit the turn as TG Tyrant says. Too much game code work for what I was thinking.
I just wonder if FM5’s ability to detect a touch on the wall is a bit off? I say that as I have a similar issue with Alps Club reverse with the left hander right before the double right going up the hill. Sometimes I can get right up to the barrier and it is clean, sometimes my front bumper is more than a couple of ft away from it and it dirties.
But back to the matter at hand, that Prague chicane is crazy mean to me sometimes… I have hit rewind many times but no where near as many times as the OP! Maximum respect to you for just having the patience to do it and even more so for your leaderboard position.
Epic chicane. Just like the final chicane at sedona from f4 and new yorks from f3. Sorts the men from the boys.
I personally love these type of corners, no better feeling when you nail them flatout.
Although in reality id be dead now for the failed attempts.
I’m so glad I’m not the only one haha! It is very much an epic corner, I just wish I knew what it’s looking for.
I think as well as it being annoying for not knowing what it wants from you, when you hit a DQ the chicane is close enough to the finish line for it to DQ your next lap! So most of my rewind attempts are to make sure I can have a fresh go on the next lap. Rewind → DQ → Rewind → DQ → Rewind → FFS → Rewind → FML → Rewind → AARRGGHH → Rewind → Eh?!
I think there maybe is some truth to it being possibly about bottoming out or lift-off, if that’s the case I’m calling a game glitch as in reality it should be looking for your racing line. But not to worry, I’ll keep at it!
It requires magic and luck. Just move on and forget it before you break something. Lol.
I’m so not looking forward to running no tcs in that car on that track. I predict lots of spin outs there. On second thought I probably will never get around to that track for those reasons lol.
If you are doing many laps and not hitting any walls, the car is probably bottoming out. Similar thing occurs at Test Track Airfield. It is an open track but driving over those huge bumps will almost always dirty the lap.
I love the Prague chicane. Successful run feels fantastic but any mistake results in huge crash. I ran that track many times using many different types of cars and never had a problem. I don’t think I’ve ran 312 though.
I’m betting on soft suspension +low ride height + distance between the bumps as the culprit. Could it be possible that when the car encounters the 2nd bump the car has already bottomed out and the suspension cannot absorb any more bump? I would check the suspension ride height telemetry (red bars) + replay (sparks).
My teammate always had the same situation… He basically had to raise the car in the front and lower the front springs. I think he also lowered the bump as well but I’m not 100% sure on that
I don’t recall ever being dirtied from bottoming out. I have however been dirtied when my clean tires get airborne and the only rubber on the ground is in the dirt. Unless you have sim damage on (from my experience) you don’t get dirtied from bottoming out.
I DQ’d first time there and it was because I was too far inside approaching the right turn. All four wheels off track. Think of Indy GP first turn. You can cut that bitch to death but too far and it’s a DQ. It’s just one of those corners that makes the game for me. It’s frustrating but so enjoyable when you nail it, barely missing the right hand wall on the exit of the chicane. A beast indeed. I altered my line and no more DQ’s
Just my opinion having rarely DQ’d there(not including barrier smashing, oops)
