Cool feature that I’m going to miss greatly from H3.
Groove the app is not dead. What is going to die is the Music Pass, because Microsoft has finally managed to get Spotify on Xbox so there’s not much need (or rather, any need) for the Music Pass anymore.
Since Groove still supports the use of songs from OneDrive (and you can certainly download songs from Spotify to OneDrive), they have no reason to remove the Groove Radio feature from FH3, nor even patch it so it grabs content from Spotify. However, it’d be pretty nice if they actually did it. After the Music Pass dies, Groove will be strictly a music player.
I’ve noticed something was up with Groove because the rights to many albums were expiring, hinting at some sort of deprecation. The publicity Major Nelson had given to Spotify when it launched on the Xbox was also a strong hint. I was worried about it but, now that Microsoft has announced a partnership with Spotify beyond the development of the Xbox app, I’m relieved.
FH3 will get a 4K patch when the Xbox One X releases, I wonder whether there will be more than 4K assets in it…
Wait, really?
I think you can download the songs locally, if it’s in MP3 or another format that Groove understands, I don’t think there’s anything stopping anyone from copying the songs you download from Spotify to OneDrive.
But it’s also quite possible I’m wrong since it’d mean you’d be able to build a legit music library at little cost.
The downloads from Spotify are just intended for offline listening on the device in question and are encrypted as far as I know.
So unless they patch the game to replace Groove with Spotify, the only way to use it is if they make it available through the Xbox Guide.
I have music uploaded to OneDrive, but FH3 won’t let me play them ingame. I keep getting a message that I need a “Groove subscription”. I have the app loaded on my xbox one and it works just fine there, so I have no idea why it doesn’t work in the game. Any ideas?
