Make sure you clean uninstalled correctly. Try to find your missing windows updates by downloading and using Windows Update Troubleshooter. In my case a specific kb update was missing and after doing these I don’t get crashes anymore.
I’m on an Xbox one x, got the game yesterday, installed tonight. I can’t make it through the damn intro without crashing. Crashed 6 times before I said screw it (hard reset, and uninstalled reinstalled did not work) . I’ll probably just turn it in to gamestop since I can’t get my $$ back. Unplayable at all. How far does it go before a class action lawsuit is brought about?
Tested demo and everything works fine. Then I decided to buy this game. Crashed after selecting first car. Now it always starts in garage and crashes every time I exit the festival. Just before the UI appear.
-Downloaded all available updates for Insider previews (Is this still required like it was for FH3?) on Win10 1809 build 18282 prerelease
-Nov 21 update for FH4 prevented crashes in speed/drift zones by automatically failing them when you pass through one (the live events seem to still work/collect points for some people, but not me/most)
-Uninstalled nvidia software, uninstalled+deleted several previous versions of display drivers and installed last weeks version 416.94, but still same issues
Also it crashes the game out any time it tries to save newly-discovered roads. could be worse, but speed zones and discovering roads/roaming are my favorite parts of the game, so this still blows.
Uninstalled and re-installing FH4 now, waiting for download and will report back if that helps
I love this game but it does my head in, so many times i just start a forzathon event and it either freezes up, or just crashes completely goes and back to the home screen and i have to then restart the game, (he crash is running at about 90%).
I have loads of other games on the xbox including FH3 and this is the only one it has ever happened with, its frustrating to say the least.
Disabling XMP in the BIOS fixed it for me, possibly combined with an update. Here’s my reasoning:
XMP was automatically overclocking (overvolting) my memory to 1.65v. I disabled it, the memory stays at 1.5v. I GET NO MORE CRASHES FOR WEEKS NOW
The same thing that happened all the time, the little stutter before the freeze, only the stutter still happens sometimes, your heart stops for a moment because of the fear of the crash. YOU know the fear. But it doesn’t crash, the game continues as normal. Either the memory can handle it now, or they fixed it with an update, but that would be a weird coincidence, so I think my memory can just handle it now.
I use 8GB memory/core i5/RX580. My machine can handle ultra/extreme settings, i tried setting them lower and lower to try and fix the crashes, it didn’t make a difference, but now I don’t have the crashes i have pushed the settings back up to ultra.
I had to use SpeedFan to see the realtime memory voltage. SpeedFan is free, or use something else, whatever, as long as its a realtime voltage readout. Disabling XMP in the BIOS (XMP is a memory auto-overclocking BIOS feature with mixed support) returned my memory voltage back to the automatic settings (1.5v in BIOS), and now SpeedFan shows it at 1.55v, and now i haven’t had crashes for weeks and this is seriously going to be one of my favourite games for years. I see some posts here saying they tried everything. Try this area. I almost bought more memory to go to 12GB to try and fix this, but i didn’t need 12GB in the end. I also saw a post from someone saying over-volting their memory FIXED the crashes for them. Their memory can handle the game now, so check out what voltage your memory is using, maybe its higher or lower than it is happy at, maybe its a different memory overclocking issue as innocuous as XMP being enabled in the BIOS, maybe love is real, and maybe VAPE =LIFE
For me it just started to crashing. No error message no nothing. Same as it was starting with Forza Horizon 3 - now this game is dead meat - crashing on loading. Great work microsoft - for marketting and killing your own titles! I wish someone could stop you for releasing game on this store and putting them on steam, origin… anything that is professional gaming platform, not something that doesnt have “recovery”, or “recheck game files” Options!
I’m using exac same setup/settings like when i purchased game, it wasnt crashing 2 weeks ago, now it crashing - typical game or windows update fault. Not gonna buy anything from MS anymore. Its second time this is hapening, off course marketing and hype for next DLC will go on, noone mention crashing issue, nor it will be ever adressed.
Hello! Coming back with tests done.
I did all the official operations of “My game is not playing or is falling on the PC” and those in the community who face or have already faced similar problems.
Notices:
I use a final version of Windows 10 Insider, but I tested it on older versions.
I have already installed and reinstalled Windows several times.
Drivers all updated. The video drivers have been tested with the latest version and also with an earlier series, always with uninstalls and clean installations.
No program starting with Windows. No monitoring program (or something similar) installed.
The game already was: Restored, installed without expansions, reinstalled VARIOUS TIMES.
Video settings: Several combinations have been tested, with 30 and 60 fps, with features enabled and disabled.
Configuration of the computer fully fulfilling the requirements of the game.
All games like Forza Motorsport 7 in ULTRA (2560x1080), Battlefield 1, 4 and 5 in High / Ultra, among other games, all with no problems!
I am sending attachment and link of the virtual disk (.PNG images) and videos, showing the settings and the moment of error of the game. Images and log files saved from the moment of error are together

Estou enviando anexo e link do disco virtual (imagens .PNG) e vídeos, mostrando as configurações e o momento de erro do jogo. Imagens e arquivos de log salvos do momento do erro estão juntos
Estou ansioso por uma correção para esse problema.
What voltage is your memory running at? I have found overvolted memory (from an XMP profile in the BIOS) was the cause of my problems. Someone else on here found UNDERvolted memory was their problem. Your memory is ADATA, but you have a gaming motherboard. I suspect a memory-related cause. What are your memory profile details, and what voltage is it running at?
This post is a copy of the email in response to support.
I put here for everyone on the subject is also attentive to the service.
I had to put the virtual disk because the videos were very large.

Eu coloquei aqui para todos sobre o tema também está atento ao serviço.
Eu tive que colocar o disco virtual porque os vídeos eram muito grandes.
Every time the game crashes, like just now in fact; 3 laps into a 5 lap race around Goliath, I consider adding my experiences to this thread, but then think better of it (except this time apparently), as no-one of any influence seems to have even acknowledged it. Despite having been started over 10 weeks ago and being 20 pages long, this thread still isn’t marked as “investigating” and the most attention it receives is whenever it becomes too much for someone and a moderator finds it more important to censor a little casual swearing with that same old sentence they use, than bringing such issues to the attention of the developers.
Also, I’m not going to start messing with my bios settings that work just fine for every other game I play. It’s clearly not a hardware problem. Besides which, I’ve seen Xbox users also complaining about crashes and as far as I’m aware, they don’t have such control over their machines.
It was only people who said they’d tried everything I suggested this to. Having to go into the BIOS is unreeasonable for microsoft to ask of people, although Speedfan is for windows and is free and small and lets you see your memory voltage, you don’t need to go into the bios to see it. For the purposes of working out the cause of the stutter>freeze>crash problem, the more data the better. It seems like a memory problem to me.
shhhh… They just released DLC, they want to more people buy it. Thats why they didnt pinned this in top. Problem is, game is just dying in very fast motion, even faster than FH3, i remember when first people had problems with FH3 - till today game is unusable. This is exacly what happened now with FH4 - DEAD. What we gonna see will be new DLC’s, New Car packs and small improvements (with supermasive HYPE over youtube reviewers!) with same bugs. Thats what they promissed. Support will blame Microsoft for their updates (i guess there is the problem too), Microsoft will be quiet about it, and T10 developers will write this problem on BackLog. Sorry but i’m seriously thinking of refound. I have completed every activity and there wasnt even credits - so i completed game i guess 5 x faster than FH3.
Tbh i had planned on buying the expansions and the other DLC’s around xmas, but between the sound freezing, the game freezing, the annoyingly random forzathon game crashes (twice today) and tonights most recent event which decided mid danger sign jump to put me back into solo mode… I’m not going to bother.
I enjoy the game immensely when its working, but its starting to irritate me to the point I’ve loaded up a few other new things to play instead, as I know none of them ever crash on me.
I am aware this has probably been said but I actually used to have issues with the game not just crashing, but causing my computer to BSoD. So what I did was lowered the graphics, and the game stopped being unstable. Try seeing if it is the graphics that are causing it, cheers.
