IT WORKED!!! I also had Avira and by uninstalling it all my stutters are gone even on Dubai(for now at least knocks on wood), after trying everything my AV was the problem, its a miracle
Wow. Can’t believe an issue that’s plagued so many people for so long had a simple fix with not a peep out of turn 10. The spring windows update must’ve had an effect on how Avira runs. Can confirm replacing with Avast solved all stutters. Tried the game on several demanding tracks with full AI & weather. Every setting on max. Consistent 60fps. No problems. It did dip to 52fps for a split second but only because i went from 150-0mph real quick Thanks HooDx88. So many times in the last 5 months where i’ve wanted to play this game & couldn’t. Really appreciate it.
So, i had windows 10 pro 1803, pc conf is like most of you, any game any resolution without issue, i5 6600k, ati rx580 8gb etc… and issues with stuttering mostly on garage, video animation etc… but not much in the actual gaming, racing… i had to do reinstall of windows, it was one of those times when “it’s time” to remove all the bul… what have been installed over a year and start from scratch and i have decided looking and this forum to install Windows 10 Pro N 1703 (so N version and 1703)… currently forza is downloading 90gb, and i will see in one h if it is working fine without any stuttering on this version of windows, amd drivers are 17.7
keep you posted, note that rolling back from 1803 to this N version when you don’t have option to rollback from recovery to 1703 there is no option to keep files, so it’s full reinstall with clean disk
so, can confirm that 90% of issues with stuttering are not visible on windows 10 Pro 1703, loading animations (videos where most of the stuttering was in my case), no stuttering, game play no stuttering, start of the race which i had issues no stuttering only small stuttering i see is when track is loading for event and in garage when you are changing from car to car for first time and only for first second, when car is cached works fine…
forza version 1.133 in my case was not playable, every animations was like youtube with slow internet connection and without buffering… 1.4xxx was much better on windows 10 1804, but 1.4xxx on windows 10 Pro 1703 is must say for now i can enjoy playing this game
ah, i take back that windows 10 1703 fixes the issue… it looks that is working fine at start, first hour of playing no issue, then after few hours it goes back to same s. stuttering, but not so much in game play but you can notice that it’s not same frame rate as it was at start.
Menu, garage, loading of track etc… stuttering more and more you play.
it’s not AV software, don’t have one…or gpu drivers
only thing i noticed is that memory goes up, from 2GB to 5GB in few hours, it can be memory leak, if it is, there is no help unless they fix it…funny, so much issues, so much post about this problem and it’s like no one from support is watching this.
did someone asked for refund? where to ask? where to send?
would like to see this game one day on pc without those homologation restriction and without stuttering…
Hello Folks,
I’ve followed this thread for 2 months now.
Buyed the game at the end of July and had this stutter / fps drops from head on.
First of all, here are my Specs:
AMD Rizen 5 1600x (no-oc)
16GB DDR4 2666mhz
Nvidia 960 GTX 2GB (yeah of course here is some culprit) + Lates Nvidia Driver and no oc
Windows 10 Pro 1803 (last fresh install was on 1607) + Latest Updates
128GB Samsung 840 EVO + 1TB Seagate ST1000DM003
AntiVirus: Windows Defender default settings. (so no third party av over here)
Xbox one Elite Controller /tried with steering wheel but ffb was just horrible and driveability/feedback is much better with elite controller
Lets start:
The Demo, because I’ve already guessed that the little amount of 2GB vram could be an issue i actually tried the game and it worked very well. Like everyone else mentioned. Had rock solid 60-90fps with the dynamic settings and decent quality.
First start of the game was awful, the dynamic settings set the graphics to very low 720p and no AA in menu and for whatever reason high 1080p in race which was lowered after every race until I reached 720p, no AA and like 12fps.
After my first google research I found that many suggested to use fixed settings while using the benchmark to determine fps.
So I found some comfortable settings with 1080p, low-high settings (based on preference vs performance) and got around 70-90 fps in benchmark. Quality was worse than demo.
I started the first race with like 140fps (sunny/day)and ending the race with 120fps. Second race started at 110fps, ended with 80 fps, and so on. After dropping under 40fps, the game stutters like hell and was nearly unplayable, while I didnt see the ingame fps counter to go under 40fps. Next race after the 40fps one, instant drops to <20fps. Sometimes it took 5 races, sometimes only 3. Exit the game and start again without restarting Windows, fully restores first race performance.
Google search suggested following workarounds:
disable full screen optimization of forzamotorsport7.exe (no impact at all)
in taskmgr uncheck first two cores from forzamotorsport7.exe (sometimes it seems that it restores from 40fps → 100fps, but dropping again while racing.)
Increased pagefile size from 1GB (pseudo-pagefile, because some apps require it to be present) to 16GB. (Improved the fps degradation from 3-5 races to 4-7 races.)
Disabled windows defender (no impact)
Disabled game mode and game bar via settings / registry (no impact just like “full screen optimization” on exe, aka game mode)
Checked that every recording function is deactivated, like nvidia shadowplay and windows game dvr. (deactivated that already, so no impact)
Since it seems to be a game-related problem I just lived with following issues:
Slow transition in garage or car selection, which also decreases the in-race performance significantly
Alt+tab while in multiplayer leading to game crashes without error. Crash occurs on alt+tab from desktop->game, while game->desktop works. Also in offline races and rivals everything’s fine.
FPS degradation over the course of several consecutive races
Lower FPS in Multiplayer than in Singleplayer and even faster fps degradation. First offline race 120-140fps and online 70-80fps(even with only 4 players…).
Xbox live disconnect messages after or while racing 4-5th consecutive online races.
Since September Forza Update and/or nvidia driver update, overall fps is lowered, could not get 120fps with same settings (noted them in a txt file because of the driver update reset issue) and degradation is even faster now. Additionally:
Sometimes the fps now degrades while racing. Like doing 5 rounds on Spa(day/sunny) with driver view, starting with 100fps and ending on stuttering 40fps.
Also sometimes I can cure the low FPS with changing camera perspective from driver to hood, race around half a round, fps recovering to 100fp. Now I can change back to driver view and drive until the end with 100fps. (really strange one)
Tried to set everything to low/off (except 4x AA/AF), to save some vram and can reproduce the issue with nearly same fps. Also tried fixed fps, which only alters the initial fps but not the fps degradation.
Sorry that I didnt came up with the one solution.
I’m still restarting the game every 3-4 races (offline) or 2-3 races (online) to recover the performance degradation.
FYI I’m also playing Pcars 1/2, AC, ACC EARLY ACCESS, PUBG(one of THE worst optimized games) since Early Access, F1 2017, F1 2018 and Dirt Rally with better avg/max FPS and graphical quality than I was ever able to achieve in FM7 in this 2 months. I already tried and searched fixes/workarounds for fm7 for about 5-7 hours, while I have not invested a hour for every other game in the list together.
I’m really trying hard to like this game but this constant performance/stability issues paired with the worse online experience(lags, driver behavior, missing punishing system, worse matchmaking even in leagues.) and really REALLY bad FFB for wheels makes it really hard.
What I want to try is waiting for my new 500gb ssd and completely fresh install of windows 10 1709 + latest nvidia drivers for 1709 and fm7 as the only installed software.
But it really seems to me that this game has some severe memory leaks both in RAM and VRAM while only reserving portions of available physical / virtual RAM leading to this degradation. Windows uses shared memory by default for RAM as well for as for VRAM, but I never saw in taskmgr that the shared memory was fully used. Over the 4-5 races the memory usage and vram usage is very stable (±10% changes), but not the typical memory leak pattern. GPU/CPU Usage is also very stable, CPU is working around 20% and GPU constantly at 98-100% (because I’m using unlimited fps setting in fm7).
tl:dr I have mostly the same issues as everyone else and still waiting for a permanent fix or workaround…
That could possibly sound like a memory leak, especially if it starts off good and then degrades from there. I would check for on screen display and just out of the ordinary .exes running in the background.
Also have you tried doing a “Clean” install of the nvidia drivers? https://i.imgur.com/83XhNtr.jpg I would highly recommend a Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) clean before setting up a clean nvidia install as well.
Amazing stuff! Glad to hear!
You are welcome. Yeah I’ve had problems with Avira in the past as well and I did switch to Avast for a good while but I eventually went back to Avira, that was a big no no. This stinking hunch I had about it being Avira was because I had prevously had those issues with it before. Time to stay away from Avira for good I do believe.
Just to be on the safe side, I did this today alongside with other things.
DDU in safemode and “clean” install of current nvidia driver 411.63.
Tried another tweak called “Windows System Timer Tool”, because found that some opensource projects [emulators] had perf issues with this timers after 1803 update[applicable only temporary, only tried this once on 1080p with no impact at all]
Tried 720p and native window resolution alongside with my “fixed comfortable settings” (which I already altered and set everything that was high to mid and mid to low to compensate the September update a bit.)
Tried 720p with low or off and 4x AA/AF [without AA/AF just unplayable]
I went on testtrack at Abu Dhabi Full at Night with 0 Drivatars.
1080p - Lap 1 / 112fps - Lap 2 / 108 fps - Lap 3 / 100 fps [2-3 times fps drops to 24fps and back to 100fps after 1-2 sec] - Lap 4 / 100fps [same drops like lap 3] - Lap 5 / 24 fps [after one drop it doesnt recover like before] - Lap 6 / 12 fps
Average Usage: 1,9/2GB VRAM, 3,6/6GB Shared VRAM, 9GB /16 GB physical RAM, paged pool 0,3 GB, 99-100% GPU, 10-20% CPU usage
native window [around 1600x900] - nearly same results[±4fps] as 1080p even nearly same VRAM and RAM usage
720p - About 20% more average FPS and lower shared VRAM [2,6/6GB]. First 5 Laps all with average 120fps and no stutter, then sudden drop to around 30fps and stutter, which is consistent for another 4 rounds until it suddenly drops to <15fps.
720p low/off, same as 720p with my “mid” settings but with another 10% more avg fps.
After leaving the race and return to menu, menu is laggy too. (after all above tests)
So i can conclude the quality settings does not impact “my” fps as much as resolution which is quite comprehensible because of my mid-range 2GB GPU.
Degradation seems to occur in “steps”, sometimes small (1080p) sometimes big ones(720p).
If degradation happened its irreversible. (Alt+tabbing, closing background programs and this stuff does nothing)
It seems that something just makes click and performance degrades, be it a “memory leak” or some odd game engine behavior.
Tl;dr DDU + “clean” install nvidia driver didn’t help. Other Resolution / Quality settings changed avg fps but didn’t cure fps degradation.
Might I ask what kind of shape your computer is in? Fans, Dust build up, has the GPU ever been cleaned? Ensure that the fans are indeed working as they should in your case and on your GPU.
What it looks like is your GPU is downclocking itself to stay at a certain temp. limit and then eventually downclocking itself so much to prevent high temps.
Thought of the same stuff yesterday evening because of the odd constant 100% GPU usage the game produces (even with capped fps).
Also took in consideration that even the PSU (its a bit old now) may have problems to deliver enough/constant power
So I ran a furmark and prime95 over 30 minutes with 1080p burn-in test and monitored Clock, power usage, fan and temp with hwinfo.
GPU Temp capped at 71°C with 51° fan speed and the clock was always at 100%.
CPU temp capped at around 75°C with 70% fan speed and was always at 100% clock on all cores.
Also have to say that the 2 chassis fan only went up to 50%. (>80°C every of the fans (gpu, cpu, chassis) goes to 100%)
Installed the game today, really liked the demo, enjoyed Horizon 3, preordered Horizon 4 after playing the demo and wanted to play Motorsport 7, too.
But I can’t, microstuttering makes it unplayable for me. Might not hurt other players as much but I’m extremely susceptible when it comes to stuttering. Can’t handle it.
Tried lowest possible settings, highest possible, low resolution, high, any resolution actually, dynamic rendering, always the same microstuttering.
1070ti, 2700x, 16gb ram.
Changed priority in task manager, disabled a few cores for the game, no change. Still stuttering.
Don’t have any antivirus software installed on my pc.
I see people trying all sorts of things to stop the stuttering, from easy to very complicated. While I respect and are gratefull that players are trying to fix this issue I think it should be T10 to fix this!
Also, I see this as a general problem caused by the game, as I have no similar problems in any other game.
I played the game without stutters for a long time, suddenly after build1.1422737.2 I have all kind of microstutters (among other new bugs), makes the game completely unplayable.
My system:
MB Gigabyte B360M AORUS GAMING 3
Gigabyte GTX1070TI
Intel Core i5 8600 PC1151 9MB Cache 3,1GHz
16GB DDR4 Kingston 2400mhz
SSD 500GB Samsung SATAIII 860 EVO Basic
Nvidia driver 411.63
Windows 10 home Version 1803 Build 17134.286
I run NO hardware -monitoring or accelerating software.
Just came back here to add - if after all this problems and mess in FM7 that is going on for almost a year now and the community ignoring by T10/MS to even acknowledge or even try to fix this broken software; you going to buy FH4 anf give MS your money again [even if it’s a different developing studio] - just look in the mirror and stop respecting yourself .
Guys,
I had these issues : microfreeze and stutter.
I have contacted Windows and Xbox support.
Together we have tried everything, and they can’t resolve the issue, so they accepted to refund me the game, although i have bought many month ago and i have + 100 hours…
And i add that i have rebought the game to see if it was solved, but i have refunded again.
SORRY but there is no solution (or only ONE, it’s to roll back windows to 1603)
Thanks to them to refund me the game
(i have i7 8086K and 1080ti SSD, before 1803 it was awesomly smooth)
And i have many issue like that on many games, it’s clear that windows is the problem.
It’s terrible, i have played this game quite some bit without any issues, but since this summer it is stuttering like it loves it.
It definitely only goes for this game.
Other game’s do not have similar issues, or do have some frame drops but on a very different kind of level.
I highly doubt this has something to do with the latest windows update.
Still though, it is beyond a disgrace this topic exists for so long, and not even one dev has replied in at least some kind of way.
Maybe it just the intention to gimp the PC-version of this game, in the hope you will buy an XBOX for it.
Maybe that really is the case.
