I play Forza Horizon 3 and Forza Motorsport 7 with Logitech Rumblepad 2 without any problem.
A few weeks ago I played the FH 4 Demo, but with my controller becomes unplayable. In the gamepad settings didn’t recognized it, and the controller settings are produced conflicts, it brake in the turns.
I want to buy the game, but I need to know if this issues are fixed up or there is some way to play with it.
Can you confirm the device drivers are up-to-date?
Yes. Also the Rumblepad 2 has stopped updating drivers for more than 2 years.
Yes. Also the rumblepad 2 hasn’t had new drivers for 2 years. But the issue is not this, is that if this game allows to play well with generic gamepads, logitech, trust, thrustmaster pads and similars.
Can someone help??, It’s a simple yes or not. I need to know to buy or not buy the game.

If it’s not on the supportwd controllers list then dont expect it to work properly

Almost same issue here, except by the fact I’m using a Generic USB Controller (that works perfectly on steam games, BTW: Street Fighter V, Mortal Kombat XL and PES2018).
I bought the Microsoft Game Pass in that $1 offer and downloaded FH4 to try it (and buy later, if it’s the case).
Surprise #1: The game did not recognize my gamepad.
As I’m familiar to games doing this sometimes, I tried to put x360ce emulator inside the game folder…
Surprise #2: The game folder is encrypted in Program Files in a way that even you having adm-permissions you cannot add files into it. Ok… let’s read the official forum.
Reading some posts here and there, the most common advice is to buy a microsoft genuine controller (IMPORTANT DETAIL: this is not stated in system requirements!). I have the wireless controller, but I would have to buy the wireless receiver to pair with my PC.
Ok, let’s search some stores a little and…
Surprise #3: All genuine wired gamepads are sold out in reliable stores in my country (Brazil). As well as the wireless receiver. I only can find generic gamepads with xbox shape for sale in our version of “ebay”. No way I’m gonna buy that. Same for wireless receivers.
Tried some “miraculous” tutorials from youtube to make my Generic USB to be recognized: none of them worked. (Installed a lot of junk here: XOutput, HIDGuardian, HIDCerberus, ViGEm, etc)
In the end, I’m very disappointed and I will not buy the game anymore unless they fix it before my first 3-month subscription is over (fortunately I have the Game Pass offer: 3 months / $1).
TL:DR: So far, the game only accepts a gamepad that I don’t have and I don’t know where to buy (microsoft genuine gamepads for xbox). I’m about to cancel the subscription to game pass because I don’t like to play racing games on keyboard.
