Am I good enough to race online?

I just started driving online again since Forza 4 where there were custom lobbies. I have been amazed at how crazy the multiplayer lobbies are in 7. Forza 4 was bad but I was lucky to connect with a good core group in private lobbies and that was dynamite. I’m not a fast driver and I watch behind as much as in front. If a driver comes up behind me that I know is way faster than me I just let them past, I feel that is a courtesy. I’ll fight fair with close opponents but will never block or weave. I am working on holding my lines, giving racing room and watching my braking. I think your attitude in developing this thread is fantastic. Don’t be surprised when you find that the online lobbies have a few drivers who aren’t as considerate as you are.

Good luck and I hope to race with you in the lobbies soon.

One more thing, I never retaliate against a driver who has hit me. I don’t feel that is ever appropriate.

You would be welcome at Delta online racing. As long as you try and race clean. Sign up. All levels from the TX3 and GTR lads all the way down. You will always have drivers at your own level. Anyway lobby B is more fun. YMTV broadcast our Porsche and Super minis events, have a look.
You can score in pro am assists on or pro assists off. Some of us run in car view on the wheel and some on game pad. On FM7 the wheel can’t compete at the min…bit it’s way more fun

Sunday 7pm UK for Porsche to fit in with TORA following Sunday 8pm two super mini races.

There’s a lot of reading here and, to be honest, I skimmed over a great deal of it. I don’t know if these have been addressed, but I wanted to comment on two things.

  1. Regarding people playing on Unbeatable, most players aren’t good enough to do that. Most players in general would struggle on Expert. However, Forza message boards tend to be populated by players with a lot of interest in racing gaming and a lot of skill at it. They’re not representative of players in general. I can finish a race, check the global leaderboard, and might be in the top 1% or 2%, but I might be in the middle of my friends leaderboard because they came from Forza forums and represent mostly diehards. There’s nothing wrong with not playing on Unbeatable. The whole player base can’t all be top 0.1% drivers.

  2. Regarding AI difficulty being referred to as a percentage, I have a huge problem with this. I don’t remember how many levels there are, but at least a few levels give you a 0% bonus. They’re equal in that regard. However, they’re not equal difficulty. If you’re on Average difficulty, you get a 0% bonus. What if you drop a level? It’s still a 0% bonus, but it got less challenging so the difficulty rating can’t be equal, so they can’t both be 0% difficulty. “0%” also implies zero difficulty, and while the easiest setting is indeed simple for most players, it still requires some effort. It’s not an automatic win. My five-year-old daughter can’t complete a single lap, so it’s not 0% difficulty. True 0% difficulty means it’s impossible to fail.

Short answer. If you can avoid causing crashes, then you are good to go. You will get faster when you race faster opponents.

Just to add to some of the comments…Racing in the Hot Hatch Ghost lobby is a no-risk way to get into it. You can’t hit anyone else, and no one can hit you. (You can, however, crash yourself out. But that is on you. ) You can practice your racing skills and compete to your heart’s content. I loved the Ghost Leagues in FM6 and hope they make it back!

We all started somewhere, right? Good luck and go for it!
