This is highly frustrating because the game looks fantastic. When I’m driving at normal road speeds, following the limits, the cars on the road are always too slow from 10 to even 20 mph. There has always been this problem but I’m amazed it has not yet been fixed.
Yes it’s a racing game however this aspect is rather substantial. Thank you.
Not to this degree. The AI drives at 30 everywhere, even on huge wide open 50 / 60 limit roads. Variable AI speeds are already coded into the engine because they do 60 on the motorway when the overhead signs say 60, so it could be done if the devs wanted to. (I know there is no chance of them doing this now.)
I was like 60% joking. A lot of the time, there’s enough space to get around them, which is kind of the point. Their purpose is to pose an obstacle to get around. There are any number of possibilities, but two that come to mind are that they found that traffic cars doing the speed limit were too much of an obstacle, or messed up other AI cars in the loop, so they toned it down. Or, they set a common speed for all traffic cars, and the play testers never complained so they left it that way. It probably won’t get changed this late into the lifecycle.
That was not my experience in Horizon 3. They bunch up quite often, and usually right where they need to be to screw up a PR stunt. They were really quite famous for that. Horizon 4 is a ghost town by comparison, especially in Horizon Life.
On a semi-related note; has anyone checked in on the Free Roam AI in Horizon 2 lately? I think they’ve turned feral.
I’d suggest playing GTA V where the AI drives 2mph and constantly goes to the side of you at lights unless you constantly edge forward, FH4’s traffic AI will look like they’re going the speed of F1 cars to you after that.
The AI in FH4 is a mess. I really believe that, when designing this game, Playground placed all their effort on Horizon Life and added the Horizon Solo mode as an afterthought. FH3 had various better things, for example the fact you could pick which friends were part of your Festival (so you don’t end up with grid placeholders if they don’t race) and the Drivatars, though still homicidal, were rarely bunched up together, which is something that happens often in FH4.
FH4 Horizon Life is much better than Solo. It’s only bad when someone wants to tandem with you, because the Quick Chat system makes conversation difficult. Only group activity I care about in FH4 is Forzathon Live, so I need something that allows me to refuse invitations more easily.
