Hi guys. Started playing the career mode and really sinking my teeth into it recently, having just completed the first “Tier” of the World Drivers Cup. Loving the game and how the whole campaign is structured. But I have a couple questions regarding cars VS money. Basically I want to know whether or not I should be accepting the prize car and purchase it after every race(even at the discount), or is it smarter to simply take the money they give you and worry about collecting cars later?
Also, how often should I be purchasing mods and which type of mods do you recommend if any? I’ve only been purchasing the master and veteran mods that give you challenges because they’re pretty cheap, but that’s pretty much it so far.
Take as many prize cars as you can; you may need them later for the later stages of career mode. Plus, they’ll give you a sweet boost to your collection tier.
Only take the cash if you can’t afford the discounted prize car.
In terms of mods, keep doing what you’re doing. The master, veteran and legendary mods give you the most value for cash.
Or hit “B” and it stashes the reward for later so you can choose the car later when you have more money. Only problem is that they stack, can’t remember if it is first-in/first-out or last-in/first-out.
I always go for the car, since it’s either free or heavily discounted, and raises my collection tier to get a bigger discount.
If you haven’t already, try setting Races to Long under Assists. That should reward you with more credits and provide a better racing experience against the AI.
Short races with the AI can be a mess of frustration.
Cars are distributed across 5 tiers. Tier 1 is “Common” and green color. If you get one of those as a choice, pick the cash, because no Tier 1 cars are worth more than 50,000. Common cars should always be purchased from the Buy Cars menu.
By all means get the car whenever you can but make sure you’ve got some spare money for Specialty Dealer cars if you don’t have them yet.
Cars will repeat over and over if you do not take them. Take as many as you can afford though. The last 10 cars I had to buy outright because they weren’t coming around again in a reasonable time.
Ive found a few good uses for that.
When it comes round for your level up and say you can choose 50k, A car that lets say for examples purposes says “discount 400k”. This isnt always true, It said discount 400k for a lotus evora which im sure lots of you know, In the game, doesnt cost 400k. So watch out for things like that.
Secondly. Say a car comes up that you have 0 interest in having. You can get it completely free. If you take the car and go to sell in garage. Youll get 100 credits. Yes you can still auction but isnt always ideal depending on the car. Now lets say the car it offers you, you still have 0 interest in this car but it costs lets say 25k with a big discount of lets say anything over 200k for ease. Take this car, Go to garage and sell it for an easy profit which is far higher than the 50k cash sum. Most of the time you know which ones will make a profit.
“Discount 400k” simply means that it’s knocking up to 400k off the price. If the car costs 400k or less, it’ll be free. “Discount 400k” is just your current level of discount - if the car costs 0 CR with the discount, it’s not claiming that the car’s initial cost was 400k.
Considering im level 215 and it changes with every car i dont think this is correct. Some will say 400k discount. Some will say 750k discount and so on. Changes every level up
The discount is based on collector level and apparently capped at 400k at… level 10 I believe. At that point, the only number that changes is the remaining cost not the discount.
Choose long or very long races for cars / tracks you like.
Change to standard lenght for those you do´t like e.g. rainy conditions.
Use best mods for longer races, don´t waste any good mods for short duration.
Use cheap mods (like 30% +) for short races.
Always get the cars. If you can´t afford them, use the “B” button to save them for later.
You might need certain cars during the career, so get all you can.
Choose the races first where you have the right cars for - later at elite you´ll have to complete the other races anyway.
And if you´re after getting driver gears (teams, tracks etc.): buy some driver mod crates when you have spare cash.
After having all the available cars I started choosing driver gears, but the game didn´t offer all missing ones. Instead it only offered mod packs at some point, forcing me to spend lots of credits to get the last ones missing. I believe this hadn´t happened if I had more driver gears before - although I can´t guarantee it works.
In general I set every race to long, only buy 30k credit mod packs and I sell anything less than a purple mod. I also (almost) always take the prize car and I generally always race on pro (I think pro, whatever the 80% bonus is).
Some extra info if you care:
For tracks/car combos I hate (looking at you SUV) I’ll set the race to normal and won’t bother with mods. You don’t get enough money out of them for shorter races and I’d rather spend my limited time on races and cars I like. I’ll also bump the difficulty down since it’s much harder to get up into first with a shorter race. I also almost always head to the tuning page and download one of the 5 star tunes. Just this alone allowed me to bump up nearly every race I do from expert to pro. The slightly modded cars just usually accelerate faster and have better handling.
On the reward car part, my approach is to never immediately accept the prize car. I’ll back out of the page to save for later. This allows me to see the actual price of the car first, a lot of times the free car being discounted 400k is only really 100k cost. Second it gives me a chance to check my collection and realize I already have 4 nascars and instead of a fifth, I try adding to my driver gear for the achievements. Third it gives me a chance to check the auction house. A lot of times I’ve found the gift car super cheap and then decided on either the credit reward or another driver suit. Lastly, sometimes I’m hurting on money so saving the prize car until later might let me grab the specialty vendor cars first then earn more credits when I have time. Another tip, sometimes I’ll save the reward cars for later to strategically change a reward car I don’t like. Example, if I am collector tier 8 and really hate the current reward car offer (before I have advanced my driver tier enough to collect it) I can then go claim a car or two I was saving to bump my collector tier which then changes the reward options.
I’ve also been practicing driving with all the assists off and manual with clutch just to make it a little easier when I happen to have those mod cards.
If the car discount is such that you pay a minimum amount, go for it.
Set limits on when to buy based on credits you have. Set a minimum amount of credits you need. At first I set mine to 1 million so that I wouldn’t go broke. Eventually I bumped that to 2 million. This will allow you the ability to buy all specialty dealer cars if you want them.
Take cash milestone reward if reward car is too expensive even with discount (this will happen) or if you are in need of credits quickly. Reward cars in the top 3 car tiers will recycle eventually.
If you buy mod cards, always run races with race length at a minimum set to long. It will be hard to lose money on mod card crate purchases (no matter which of the 3 crate types you buy) this way.
Only run career events where you have an eligible car. There is no need to buy cars in your first play-through. There is a high probability of getting an eligible car via level up rewards or via showcase events.
Complete every showcase event before you move to the next championship. You will get a free car as result and you’ll be able to use these cars in other championships. Some of these showcase cars are very good in its division as well.
This is golden advice, let me add that sometimes the cars you get are good for events in earlier championships which is very useful if you’re going for 100% on career mode as you must beat everything to win the “Elite” cups.
Extra Long races are a great way to rack up the credits, and can be a blast on tracks you really enjoy. Also enables you to play a long game with the AI, setting up to pass and passing in best spots you can take an entire lap, no need to dash through the field. Also enables you to play MPG-vs-speed with cars that require 1-3 pit stops. Some races you’ll need no stops at all, but most you’ll need 1-2, a few you may need 3.
Wow, thanks for the advise guys! All great info and suggestions. Fortunately it appears I’ve been doing things right. I’m already ahead of you with the race lengths and have only done Long races. I would do Extra Long races but not really a fan of races lasting mroe than 10 laps or so. Anyway will keep all your suggestions and tips in mind moving forward
As others have said, go for the car after levelling up. I was mainly aiming for the achievements so I did sometimes deviate to the driver gear but I disagree with going for the money, you can get the same value by racing under 5 minutes in free play.
I grinded the carrer mode amd 100 % competed it. I did this so i would have all the cars thinking i would need them to race online. But none of my mates have done it so its unfair to use them and most event orginisers will ban hard to obtain cars. My advice is don’t bother unless you have lots of time to waist and nothing better to do.
