Advice-Getting off the line

Can anyone offer me any advice, point me in the direction of a decent tutorial/video for how best to get off this line. I race with traction control off, and using manual with clutch gears. I’m fine in lower class races, but in higher classes (specifically Hypercar league at moment), I find myself starting in pole and in 8th by the first corner in every race. I’ve tried a fair amount of revs to start, almost none, and seemingly everywhere in between, but still found no sweet spot. I’ve tired minimising and completely removing wheel spin, and that just doesn’t seem to get me any momentum either. Meanwhile, everyone with TC turned on just flies off the line, like they’re rocket powered.

Generally I do well at the actual racing side of stuff, once we get going. It’s just that first part I’m struggling with.

in the hypercar league i find hitting max revs with as little throttle as possible lets me fly off the line, then once going floor it whilst shifting up to 3rd quickly.

I tend to use about 70% throttle till the light goes green then floor it.
This works especially well for FF and 4WD cars and has almost no wheel spin.
Rear wheel keep the 70% throttle till you are in 2nd or 3rd gear. Depending on the car you may need to use less throttle.
You can just ignore the clutch for launching.

Don’t know why they hide the tachometer but if you use cockpit view you can see this which makes things easier. You want about 60% of the revs before redline. So a car with 8000 you want somewhere around 5000-6000 revs. This along with a car with good launch ratings will see you pass quite a few cars at the start of every race, just be careful not to slam into the car in front.

Folk with TCS on do not fly off the line, you will fly past them if you do it right.

I have trouble with the launching higher powered cars too. If I can tune them, I adjust gears to minimalize the problem. Otherwise, I use a lot less throttle and shift quickly into the next higher gear if my wheels are still spinning. It really requires good throttle control for sure. Some days I’m better at it than others.

Don’t just shift into 2nd if your wheels are spinning you will lose all your power and you will be left in the dust.
A little bit of wheel spin is fine especially in a powerful rear wheel drive.
Wait till your car gains traction before shifting into second. You will find will move much quicker.
Just let the revs bounce off the limiter till you have some traction then shift to 2nd.
The controller vibration should change when you have traction so try and use that to know when you can shift…

Yeah, I know it isn’t my best option, and it isn’t my first option. However, when I do it, it’s when the wheel spin is already out of control and the only other option is brakes or coming off the throttle completely, which loses me even more time and I have to try to get it right with the throttle again. I am definitely weaker in the higher powered cars.

full throttle off the line every time

if you’re having issues increase the length of your first gear

Most of my S and above class cars are rocking first gears between 70-100 mph

Very sound advice.

For cars RWD I usually use a slight bit of throttle control. it Try to find the RPM where the car uses maximum power and hold it around there. For example, a car with around 9,000 rpm could hit peak power at around 8,000 rpm, so try and hold it around there before launch and once the car sets off, just try to limit wheelspin. I tune my cars with an extremely high first gear also (around 70 miles an hour) as I like the stability and traction of having a long 1st gear. For AWD cars I tend to floor it off the line and make it so that the revs dip to peak HP when the car regains traction.

If you want to test it out OP, I think I have a tune of my NSX up. It’s not 100% finished but the gearing is complete I believe. Just search My GT.
