About The New Tag

Before I start. I’d ask that everyone keeps an open mind. Purely because some people view tag as a mess around gamemode and essentially will disregard someones opinion whenever they complain about tag. For some people (Such as myself) Tag is the thing we enjoy the most in these games, and it’s the main reason we buy them.

With that said, I’d like to request that you guys at T10 stop systematically ruining tag every time you release a new game. It sounds bad and unfair to say I know but seriously you guys are just changing things and not testing them at all. Have you tried it? With the new any class? It’s horrible, just ruined everything that was fun about it. Every ounce of technical skill you once needed to win has been stripped from the gamemode and essentially been turned into being borderline luck based.

Lets take a look back in time shall we?

  • = good change/feature
  • = bad change/feature

Forza 3
+Mainly track based with the exception of separate lobbies for Benchmark
+3-5 second starting timing for the IT players in the beginning of the round (I think, I can’t really remember F3 tag)
+A class specific.
+Nice balance of car choice.
+Good map rotation too.

Forza 4
+Track based
+3-5 second starting timer
++A and S class in different lobbies.
+Great car choice, could make a lot of cars viable depending on how you played.
+Better tracks IMO especially with Top Gear, Infineon, Sedona etc.

Forza 5 (Hated the driving so never played it. This is from what I heard about tag on there from an experienced tag player)
+S class specific
-Few map variations
-Easy to break out of the few track layouts given.
-Game breaking bugs such as being able to drive through certain walls in certain cars.
-Able to hide in areas with certain cars that no other cars have access too. Essentially giving the player an easy win with no effort.
-No starting timer making the beginning of races an absolute riot.

Forza 6
-Same maps as Forza 5
-No timer. Again, makes the start an absolute riot.
+Less bugs but still some.
+A class specific
-Non ITs can “Cloak”/hide under red dots who are AFK or helping them win. Essentially making their dot almost impossible to find (It is possible to see the difference but most players will never notice the difference and therefore the hiding player can unfairly hide to win).

Forza 7
–Same maps (Even worse for 3rd time in a row)
-No timer
-Any class
-Two cars are competitive (F1 cars)
+Haven’t encountered any bugs yet

As you can see. The later games are falling behind horribly in the tag side of things. And it’s causing a lot of people to drop the gamemode… And the game. Forza 7’s tag looked promising given that Forza 6 was so much better than Forza 5 but it seems you guys couldn’t help yourselves with the unnecessary changes
I mean come on, It’s literally two small changes we ask for in order to make it a lot more enjoyable again.

  1. Restrict the class. B, A, S are perfect for it as they are the most balanced out of all classes. Not too slow yet not too fast either.
  2. Add the timer delay, being tagged off the start line purely because someone has 10 acceleration AWD ruins the game for most people, you can literally tag half the lobby with easy with an AWD power car. It’s really not fun to deal with and the timer is exactly what we need to stop it.

And finally. The larger change that would be greatly appreciated by every great tag player I have spoken to. Give us back track tag. Forza 4 tag still has something of a playerbase despite it being 6 years old. Obviously it did something right that the following games have been unable to replicate. Please. I urge you to just take a look at what the old games did right. And use it as a guideline to make the games better for everyone. Not just racers…

I never touched Forza 5/6 but I agree with your views on 3/4 and 7. The unlimited tag mode is basically a free roam mess about, most people just hang about mashing or drag racing on the runway.

There is an exploit I think where if you use the BMW Isetta there is a spot only that car can fit in between the hangar containers, basically making them unreachable unless 3-4 cars mash each other SO much that they end up sideways going the gap. I’ve also seen that BMW wedged to far under a plane that no other car, or at least the ones present in that game could reach them.

Sadly I can’t see them changing or improving the multiplayer anytime soon if at all, the best thing going is the Rivals and that can only keep you occupied for so long.

Exactly. I didn’t even delve into the problems Open Space causes on tag from Forza 5 to Forza 7 with the constant stream of drag racers joining the game for no reason. I don’t understand why they drag race on Tag and not in their on drag lobbies.

I just don’t understand why they feel the need to change the rules of this gamemode all the time. Whether it’s the timer or the class. It’s infuriating because it just cuts the games replay-ability in half for a lot of tag players.
Just give us the rules from Forza 4 and it will be perfect.

A or S class only
Timer
Tag on tracks such as Infineon, Sedona, Top Gear, Sebring, Indianapolis, Iberian, Ladera etc.

Done. Ezpz. You just gave us a fantastic gamemode that we can enjoy again…

This is why a lot of my friends are still on forza 6 and even a few that stuck with 4.

Same here. Several of the great tag players are still on F4.
Forza 7’s tag is not entirely horrible having played it quite a bit. The problem begins and ends with there being no cut-off class. If it were any class up till R. It would be far more balanced and would give us a lot more competitive cars to use. I was running the Mazda 787b against a lobby of Renaults and 641’s and it really shows just how superior the F1 cars are. To the point where you literally could do nothing to avoid being tagged…

The F1 cars are genuinely ruining the balance of tag. If you even restrict it to P class and below it would be a massive improvement.

Or you could just rotate the classes randomly from B to R or something along those lines.
