In the new update, the release notes add that team liveries and names were changed for two cars. Does anyone know why? I’m very ignorant about all this.
Renamed the 2008 Porsche #7 Penske Racing RS Spyder Evo to the 2008 Porsche RS Spyder Evo.
Removed race team markers from base livery of 2008 Porsche RS Spyder Evo.
Renamed the 1973 Porsche #6 Penske Sunoco 917/30 Can-Am Spyder to the 1973 Porsche 917/30 Can-Am Spyder.
Removed livery and sponsor logos from the 1973 Porsche 917/30 Can-Am Spyder.
License reason i would assume. Most likely the contract for the rights to use the names and logos ran out.
There are more than just those two Porsches that have the Penske name in them. Three Chevrolet Indycars (two of which were just released this year), three Ford NASCAR’s, and the Lola T70 all have Penske in their names. Were they affected by this as well? Maybe it’s just a Porsche thing… Who knows.
They look so ugly now. They basically just have a solid color livery. What a shame.
Don’t understand the point of licencing something for 5 minutes, not the first time either, the KTM lost its livery too. To be honest this has been the worst game (not just Forza) for liveries. Missing sponsors have affected many cars, most notably DHL, although a few cars have DHL so how could that be licensing? its not a problem that other games seem to have.
Audi R18 - Missing Mahle from nose, shows up on other parts of the car.
RS Spyder - Was missing the DHL logos, now whole livery gone.
Brabham BT45/Lotus 77 - not really an thing missing but PCARS and GT do a much better job at removing the Alcohol/Tobacco sponsors without changing the livery.
917/30 - Lost its livery.
Group 5 280ZX - Missing a few sponsors.
Emil Frey Jaguar - Missing the Pirelli logos (shown in the menu thumbnail).
GT3 Bentley - Has DHL and Pirelli decals but is missing the Liqui Moly sun strip despite still having Liqui Moly on other areas of the car.
Bob Sharp 300ZX - Missing a whole bunch of stuff, BBS, Goodyear, Canon (to be fair F1 games are missing Canon too), Fram, even the team name is missing from the front.
2011 Risi 458 GTE - Has 512 TR of Huston instead of Ferrari of Huston.
HTP SLS GT3 - Missing Pirelli logos.
Black Falcon SLS - no livery issues but does have DHL logos without issue.
Group 5 Skyline - Was missing a few sponsors when it came to the game, was corrected though.
Chevy Cruze TC1 - Missing DHL and series sponsor JVC Kenwood.
Factory Honda Civic TC1 - Missing JVC Kenwood, the Zengo team is the only WTCC car to have the Kenwood sun strip.
BMW 125 NGTC - Missing the HiQ on the headlights and Autocar on the sills, the Audi has the both BTCC Series sponsor without issue.
Mercedes A Class NGTC - Missing the HiQ logo on the headlight also and Missing Dunlop/driver number from roof, drivers name in wrong colour, and missing series logo on bonnet.
KTM GT4 - lost the official livery it came with in pretty much the next update or two after it came out.
So many of the livery issues cant be because of licensing as other cars from the same series and year are unaffected and these are championship sponsors not individual team sponsors. Some of it is just down too T10s infamously poor QA, but licensing. I also think some of it is down to taking reference photos of cars in between race meetings at the shop (the Avensis in FM6 was missing its front springs) and not cross referencing with photos from a race weekend.
I cant believe they would have so many issues with liveries when other games with much smaller budgets don’t, I mean look how many liveries PCARS 2 has. I also don’t see how they could struggle with iconic famous liveries when they can have the liveries of the LMPC cars from 10 years ago from small defunct teams without issue. Especially as I doubt any of the Intersport and Level sponsors would want to be associated with those teams given their owners are/were in prison.
I get that after many years licensing many have an effect but after a few months, well that’s just odd. What is FM8 going to be like? are we going to be sucked in to spending good money on a DLC pack for a great iconic racecar, only to have its livery striped at the next patch. If it is licensing that’s causing some issues, along with VW and Mitsubishi, then maybe its time for some fresh faces in the licensing department.
This is pathetic, on the 917/30 you can’t even paint the bottom half of the side of the car. Now our talented painters can’t even recreate the livery.
What a disaster. Much as I love the 917/30, it’s been a mess since the get-go where it wasn’t classified properly, and now this. It had one of the most legendary liveries ever. And now it’s gone because of the godforsaken lawyers. Who are probably also to blame for the lack of a 917K or LH, and who are probably also to blame for the lack of Toyota.
In fact, they’re probably also to blame for why the game won’t even let you paint the /30 properly, because even if the game allows players to paint the livery themselves, it’s still a violation of the agreement.
But then, some of the blame must be laid at the feet of MS and T10, because by my reckoning, they were gaming the system before and perhaps not going to the lengths required for the right to properly replicate the livery. This kind of stuff has been going on for years; i’ve talked to race drivers many times, and often times, historically, they’ve seen their cars replicated — in diecasts, in games, even in real life — without any royalties being paid. I suspect a similar thing has happened here.
If that’s the case, then shame on T10 because even after all this patching, all these updates, some may say the game looks even more unfinished than before. That’s a gong show and they had better sort all this stuff out next time ‘round. They’ve got more time than that have in a long time to do it, so DO IT.
I agree there. Would love to race a GT One and 88c-v Minolta. Nothing good ever came from lawyers involvement.
If somebody could recreate the Penske Spyder I would be your best friend. I just got back from taking my wife to Europe for her 40th birthday. I was able to go to the Porsche Museum and see the car in person. I actually started to tear up, my wife looked at me, and now she finally understands what race cars mean to me.
The V8 Supercars fuel sockets are on the wrong side of the it should be on the left side not the right side of the car turn 10 if not believe me watch a pit stop on youtube this is a blunder and a half
