I was playing Forza after (maybe rather “extensive” gameplay of older NFS’s/GTA’s) playing some older games and it reminded me of how nice it might be to have an actual story/storyline to the game. As it is right now it is rather boring because its just race [insert Keira saying “well done boss”] next race, win a wheelspin, repeat really so I think adding a storyline to the next Horizon game would be a refresh in terms of gameplay experience. I’m not asking for an in depth Need For Speed Most Wanted/Underground/Carbon remake but just some kind of storyline so the game is interesting and something more than just a damn race and then a wheelspin that gives you bugger all in terms of cash. What would you guys think of the idea?
Not going to happen. The only feasible reason why the storyline was removed in FH2 is because it would likely be “too cringey” and therefore would bring in more bad reviews from people that don’t appreciate storylines. But it may balance out if it were put into place because whatever players that actually enjoy storylines end up liking FH4’s storyline, it will bring in positive reviews. Essentially, it’s not worth taking the chance.
No thanks. Too many loadimg screens and unskippable cutscenes now. I just want to race.
If they made cutscenes skippable then it could please those who are not interested in a story
Horizon 1 was great because it had a hint of story and actual characters which made it that much more immersive. Having rival characters in a race made it fun and immersive, knowing you were both battling it out for a wrist band
Racing against insert stupid gamertag’s drivatar is not fun at all, I don’t even look at the race results anymore because I simply do not care. There is zero incentive keep on going
Not everyone is into a story true, but that is why you have the Motorsport series
I prefer just racing in FH games. I am all for options so yeah skippable cutscenes would be awesome.
I have no need for a story in order to enjoy racing.
isnt the story line :
Your a festival boss with a co-ordinator who does all your promo work for you and your goal is to open festival sites and blueprint races to your liking being the boss and all ?
A boss who also races on the side (sometimes illegal races) and performs PR stunts to attract crowds etc to enable expansions to festival sites and gets paid accordingly…
Not to mention the personal mechanic who restores your cars for you and the perks for being a boss with discounts etc you have to earn…
Sound like a story line to me, surprised you missed it.

Storylines usually focus on dialog, hence storyline. And even in games where dialog is not a big priority for the gameplay itself, it is crucial to the storyline. Surprised you missed it.
I still stand by my point. It’s not worth the risk for T10/PG to make that move with FH4 (if there is one). It’s a 50/50 shot for the profit goal. You either hit it or miss it.
Perhaps we could have a “Muchin the Popcorn” achievement for watching all the cut-scenes without Skipping any of them…
I can’t think of any game where I have managed to do that…

they had one like that in the first assassins creed, only achievement i didnt get
I like the story line / cutscenes at the start of the game and I actually kinda miss them now. When I start up a Horizon game several months post-release I always have this feeling of “nothing to do” when all races and events are already finished.
No need for real story, just an actual sense of progression. FH1 did that well by having you face off against a character from the mythos at every tier. Since then we have only had lather rinse repeat gameplay, and especially this time around, it was really shown how little they care, with not even a need to place in any race to progress.
So you never feel you need to improve to progress, and the lack of any challenge means it isn’t really a game at all. Just an achievement grind. The way they handled BM was an improvement, but the order in which you gained access to the races was still totally random in the sense of not representing any kind of progression, difficulty or otherwise.
With all that said, just the demo of NFS2015 was enough rubbish to put me off that story, way too much in your face “acting” and such, cringe city. By comparison, The Crew actually did a good job with story, it’s only a shame it struggled even more than FH3 with rubberbanding, and had such physics issues. It’s map clearly put any other racer to shame.
Maybe we don’t need an in-depth story but more of just a tangent (if that makes any sense) of one like in the original Horizon. I generally prefer games with a storyline if its done correctly. If we had the option to skip them then that would work for people who wouldn’t want the story and it would bring more sense of accomplishment than beating TheSLAPTrain in a race and getting bugger all in terms of money.

What kind of NFS games are you calling old actually ?
And about people, skipping cutscenes, I also know close friends of mine who skip them. To be honest I don’t think that kind of people should speak about storylines.
Second, I’ve also noticed that people skipping cutscenes and dialogue are very time pressed and the least relaxed of the gamers. You can’t enjoy entertainment if you are stressed
All the Blackbox and Classic Era ones like HP2,UG/2,MW,Carbon etc.
They had a working storyline although UG2’s was too cringey IMO but if Forza could do it right…
The almost - story in FH1 was cringey enough.
Just enough dialogue to name opponents but so out of place you forgot all of their names already.
The way I see it is that you either stick with it or you don’t. Cutscenes in Horizon 1 were interesting. The opening was interesting.
But by the time I beat the last “tier boss” I just asked myself “why is this guy important again?”
Forza storyline: You love racing. Race you, race!
I liked forza 2 when you actually had to unlock the cars, wether it was career or time trials. everything is just handed to you now which I don’t really enjoy as much
I don’t care for storyline as much as l’m missing atmosphere. I want to be placed into a world where people love cars and racing and you’re just doing your own thing there among everyone else.
Being “the winner” or some hero everyone is cheering for just puts me off.
I would love to see a world where Al is always doing races in groups and there would be some sort of life in there instead of dumb robots careening through the streets aimlessly.

+1 to that, would be nice to have little things like that. Would be cool to just pull up to a set of traffic lights and get a drivatar pull up next to you, and he/she would rev their engine (or the player could do it) and have a drag race when the light go green, But not as an actual race were there is a winner.
Come to think of it, are there even traffic lights in the game? I’ve not noticed
I appreciate the Freedom here but would also appreciate a little more linear Single Player mode, akin to FH2.
