The goal behind creation of this tiny, 14 hp, 2-door car was simple. At those times, Europe was heavily decimated by the aftermaths of WW2 and people simply didn’t have enough money for new, full-size cars. So, automakers had to come up with some solution. The answer to those problems were microcars. They motorised the world. And Vespa 400 was one of them.

Designed by scooter company Piaggio, and made and sold by French ACMA company (because, at that time, Fiat had monopoly on making tiny cars in Italy). ACMA wasn’t some random company located outside of Italy. No, they were making Vespa scooters since 1953. For that reason, Piaggio saw them as the right partner for their small car.

The engine was 393 ccm 2 stroke air cooled Inline 2 with carburetor. 0-100 kph was question of very long 25 seconds.

At the end of the production in 1961, ACMA made approximately 34 thousand of these mini cars.
