My Xbox 360 and copy of Forza Motorsport 4 Limited Collector’s Edition are both completely unmodified, but when I attempted to purchase a 2010 Kia Forte Koup from the in game dealership, that car I was presented with was a black VW Bora. I reloaded the game to see whether it was a temporary glitch but the “Kia” is still a black VW. I would appreciate any explanation as to why this is. I have purchased the car and it seems to perform and sound like a V6 Bora, not a Kia Koup. I also experimented with bodykits, and the “Race” front bumper causes the front of the car to “disappear” as shown in the photo.
The black VW Bora was a placeholder car in FM3 for when you were racing against People that had a DLC car that you haven’t downloaded. I assume the same still applies to Forza 4, but seeing as the Kia is not a DLC car my guess is that the game can not find the proper Files on tue Disc or Hard drive. Did you install the game on your hard drive? if so, try uninstalling Disc 1 of the game (go to storage, delete that particular game file only) and Play from disc or reinstall disc 1 of the game.
Thank you for your response. I did install the game on the hard drive, so your suggestion that the game cannot find the necessary files seems probable. If I reinstall Disc 1, will my game progress be lost, or will my progress be unaffected? If a reinstall could potentially lost my progress, I think I will just do without the Kia, but otherwise, I am happy to try a reinstall.
Your progress is in a file with your GT and save file in the name, same goes for tunes and paints. All other files are the game files and can be deleted and reinstalled if you want. Keep the save file and your progress will be fine.
@funky dunk 1977:
Thank you for your feedback. I will keep it in mind for the future anyway, probably be a good idea to back up my save files anyway.
Strange thing is though, I just started up FM4 (twice - to check that it hadn’t temporarily glitched back to normal) and the 2010 Kia Forte Koup appeared as the correct car, not the black VW, and the 2004 Ferrari F430 and 2008 Volkswagen Touareg R50, which were both also “broken” and appearing as the Bora, also now appear as the correct cars. Oh well, I’m not complaining, and I guess you could say FM4 is still offering new surprizes even after almost 3 years.
DO NOT BACKUP your Forza saves - they will be flagged as corrupt and you will lose them (it is an anti cheat measure that was made necessary from the FM1 days). Sounds like your HDD or box might be a little sick if they are going back and forward from readable to not. Xbox support can run you through some tests to help determine if the HDD or box itself are dying.
Thank you very much for your help. Luckily I have not backed up files. I think there is a problem with the Xbox. It now takes about a minute to actually switch off after I turn off the console, either through using “Turn off console” in the menu or pressing the power button. During this time, the power button seems to “pulse” illuminating green in the center. I will see what Xbox support say. I will just hope that it is nothing fatal, maybe I will give it a rest for the moment and use the PS3 instead.
Also, the F430 is now totally broken (again), and Kia and Touareg are now appearing as the black Bora - again.

You can’t play forza on PS3

The Xbox not turning off instantly seems to be normal behavior when using cloud saves. Are you by any chance using cloud storage for your FM4 savegame?
I know - I have to play Gran Turismo 6 on PS3, which isn’t without its merits, but overall, I still prefer FM4.
Also, the turn off thing must be to do with cloud storage - I have cloud storage set to “disabled” but it still seems to be affecting the switch off time, as I just disconnected console from the internet and it switched off straight away as usual. I guess I must have inadvertently enabled cloud storage somehow.
Anyway, thanks for the advice - I was worried for a minute that the 360 might have been dying. It must just be that the cloud storage is somehow still enabled. Anyway, my mind is now at rest. And I can of course still play FM4, just without a few cars. And there are better equivalents to those cars anyway. The 458 Italia beats the F430, I like the Scion TC just as much as the Kia, and the Audi Q7 V12 TDI is even bigger and puts out even more torque than the Touareg, so it’s not such a big deal. Just as long as things stay with only those 3 cars being affected.
I’d still suggest uninstalling the game data and reinstalling it, it sounds like the data is somewhat corrupted. As long as you only delete the item “installed game” you’ll keep your savegame.
OK thanks. I’ll try that and keep fingers crossed that it works this time.
I have reinstalled the entire disc 2, and it has had exactly no effect - the Kia is still a black Bora and the F430 and Touareg are both still broken. I can only assume it must be something else - hopefully the HDD is not dying. It seems strange that it should only be those 3 cars though. Of course, I can still drive the VW in TDU2, although the physics are, well, non-existent really. Though I guess I could always go back to FM3 for those 3 cars. It is whether it is a more serious issue, as opposed to just a fault in FM4 that concerns me slightly. I think I will see what Xbox support have to say.
Disc 1, or installed game. Not disc 2. The Kia is not on disc two but on disc one.
OK. thanks. I thought it seemed somewhat strange that the reinstall did nothing.
