Fh3 plays on xsx 4k30.
it’s really hard to argue this point. I’m sure there were a million other factors in how the game launched and why he left, but…
there are lots of quotes out there that make me wonder what game he was playing, or what game he thought we were playing.
anyway FH5 is my main hobby, so I’m glad it works great and we’re only missing a few cars that I care about. the idea that they continue to give us new content every Thursday for 104 weeks in a row is crazy. I have very few overall complaints.
Probably thought we were playing his car-themed battle royale “The Eliminator” with racing side missions.
He thought I was just killing time in Mexico waiting for Hot Wheels
I still got plenty to complain about personally, but it’s very plausible that Mike Brown is still the source of my frustrations today. Transitions like this take a long time, and you can’t just throw out the work pipelines that were already started. New pipelines will take equally long to set up either way, so all you accomplish is throwing away work.
But yeah, I’ve said it a couple times before but I’ll say it again: Mike Brown seemed to want to work on anything but a racing game.
Hopefully the devs and whoever’s in charge of calling the big shots have learned something the past 2 years.
A lot of the community seems to believe that Mike Brown leaving brought some needed fresh air to the game. I’ll just say keep your expectations at bay because next time there might not be a “Mike Brown” to put all the blame to. They might’ve already hired another clone for all we know…
It will be interesting to see what type of game his new Maverick Studios will make.
Personally, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s another racing game.
I think the plan for him and the rest of the FH devs that joined him is to make a hit game and then be bought by one of the major publishers and laugh all the way to the bank with your truckload of money.
Seriously, though, with this being their official forum, I don’t see how this can’t be a source of information for legit input from players that is beneficial overall. Even despite some of the rants that occasionally occur, there’s good information from reputable & regular players that should be considered beyond just the official polls. Maybe this occurs to some degree behind the scenes.
I wouldn’t say that. Firing someone or having them leave is always a scary proposition, because you’re always rolling the dice on whoever replaces them. They could be better, but they also could be worse.
There does come a point though where rolling the dice is preferable to maintaining the status quo. We’d reached that point with Mike Brown. Under his leadership, the franchise fell from being the pinnacle of open world racing to a complacent shell more concerned with dubious partnerships and advertising than serving the core experience.
It’s possible that Mike Brown wasn’t the “fire” (ie the problem causing all of this), but there was a lot of “smoke” surrounding him. With what information we had, he was the obvious target and needed to go. Regardless, the dice have been rolled and in spite of the risk I feel a sense of relief over that fact.
I’m also interested to see what kind of game Maverick Studios makes, but I’d be very shocked if it were a racing game. Racing never seemed like a good fit for Mike, nor did he seem terribly interested in fundamental racing aspects, always chasing the new modes dragon over fundamental racing game tools like custom championships. He took those away!
I’m mean we’re talking about a guy who openly admitted at one point that he stifled urban environments in the game because he hated urban driving.
The guy desperately wanted the game to be Fortnite.
Maybe they want to branch out into a different genre, but I’d think with as much racing game experience as the main team members have, it would be the logical direction to go to get a game out in a timely manner.
That’s interesting & I wasn’t aware, but then I never really got into the minutia of debates or details regarding him. Unfortunately, human nature is pretty predictable when it comes to looking for a focal point of blame when things go pear-shaped, or not exactly the way we prefer, which often times leaves the facts in the wind. I’m just glad to see the franchise is at least providing some indicators that they are hearing some of the feedback & trying to point the ship in the right direction, as others have pointed out.
At the end of the day, that’s all that truly matters. Not the who, but the what.
Mike Brown is more than an individual though, he represents an era of the franchise, one that I know I was particularly dissatisfied with. Vocalizing my distaste for “the Mike Brown era” is useful in helping guide the future of the franchise. Whether he was the direct or full cause of that is debatable, but the end result of said era is not, regardless of blame.
It may be destructive and short-sighted to pile so much blame on one individual, but it is an easy and digestible way to refer to the era. Not to mention a lot easier to type out.
While on the topic of Mike Brown, has his replacement been appointed yet? I don’t watch the livestreams as intently as I used to.
I don’t watch them at all. I stopped watching Sesame Street when I was, like, 4 or 5.
I was under the impression that Torben had taken over, at least temporarily if not permanently.
Don’t quote me on that though. I forget where I got that info.
I would gladly entrust some serious decision making and preview/beta testing to some of the regulars (especially the rivals thread crew). But I don’t get a vote.
I bought this game one month after release but due to prior commitments in a different game I was only able to spend small amounts of time sporadically in the first year. The second year is different because I stopped playing that game altogether and now focus my time here.
I came in on the tail end of the “Mike Brown era”. Logging in playing every day accumulating as many or more hours as day one players. During this time you could see a feel a sense of the shift in the outlook or philosophy of the studios for the better. That inturn allowed the devs to be more inspired and creative with more freedom to do so. To that end we the players are the benefactors of some really great content. This combined with the open willingness to listen to the player base then to improve and implement the things we suggest or give feedback on is by far the best approach possible to keep the customers happy. So many times I’ve seen other games fail just due to not listening or not meeting players needs so this give me and hopefully others the feeling of positivity going forward.
I do agree with having beta testing all the way. That way the majority or at least some issues get sorted before final release. That is beneficial to both sides as the player will have a better end product wile the company comes out smelling like a rose instead of having egg on their face.
i seem to be able to get through to them, to some extent. not to paint my relationship with them as special, but on the rare occasions that i reach out, positive things happen. so I try not to overdo it. they definitely read and react to the suggestions hub, that’s pretty clear now.
they should have created a testing program or feedback loop for more players by now, sometimes I wish I could have made some comments on features before theyre released
for example, say what you want about them, but eley9 and Ugrundy have more engagement than like every other player combined, but from what I know, neither of them has ever gotten a single “hello” from anyone at playground. let alone a free copy of the game, or car packs, or even taking part in the preview week that streamers get.
I mean, come on
