I think the first shot is the best, a bit of tweaking on the settings and I think you would have had a very nice shot. I really like the shot mentioned by lethal drift as well, just a tad brightness to bring out that lighting coming through the trees. I’d encourage a bit of playing around with the settings and take the same picture with different settings to see what effects its having on your final image. You can always post some comparison shots up here to get some advicce if needed. Good work though, keep it up.
