Tachyon has rear camera, why can't we have virtual rear view mirror?

We’ve been missing a virtual rear view mirror for I don’t know how long in the Horizon series even though the Motorsport game has it as an option. I got the Tachyon tosy from the season event and it has a rear view camera with monitor. So obviously they have the code in the game, they could easily add a virtual mirror. Oh wait, wait… we wouldn’t want them to do anything that people have been requesting forever. Just go about releasing patches that break as much stuff as they fix, sorry for wasting your time.

EDIT:
Just noticed the Emozione also has virtual side view mirrors. Come on guys, pretend like you care about your players a little bit and give us a virtual rear view mirror.

Those cars actually have cameras as their rearview.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t get one if racing hoodview (though fh5 is definitely game where you should be racing 3rd person if playing online) but what you’re saying is pretty irrelevant. If I had to make a guess I’d say it was because it takes a lot of processing power to render a 360 degree image and they probably couldn’t make it function smoothly without the image in the rearview looking like it was in the OG Xbox.

Not all of us like 3rd person. I shouldn’t be forced to use it because they neglect to have a rear view mirror which Motorsport has always had. If I had a mirror it wouldn’t be such an issue. At least I can easily see what’s going on behind me. If someone needs to pass. Look back in a game with checkpoints makes you miss them. They can at least tell us why we can’t have it. I’ve only asked 100 times. No answer ever. A mirror is never irrelevant in a racing game.

I asked the same question in FH4 as I always use bumper cam - just feels more natural to me than the others - got no response, then a few days later they announced that it was going to be a special new feature - but only on series X machines !!!
I also pointed out at the time that Motorsport has always had it so why not Horizon - guess what - no response.
It would be really handy when doing anything to see what was going on behind without having to switch cameras.
They could extend it across the whole top line to see behind and left and right to minimise the disadvantages of bumper cam mode vs 3rd person views.

I mostly racing in dashcam with a small fov and the missing virtual rear mirror in FH bothers me for years

Because this is NOT a simulator? zzzz.

Althou i agree that i would prefer to have working rear/side mirrors instead of idiotic additions like moving fins, openable roof and stupidities like that, completely unnecessary and idiotic.
Hell you cant even open the roof at the same time you are driving… ridiculous lol.

It has to be a sim to have a mirror? Really? Neither is Motorsport by the way.

Pretty much. Racing games are supossed to be as fluid as they can be. Mirrors and reflections are one of those things that affects performance in hard ways.
So in a racing arcade game, with just one mirror is enough. There is no need to overcharge the game engine with more. Hard to understand? maybe, but its one of the fundamental
things to consider when making videogames.

I am not following you here, Fh5 certainly has the computing power to display multiple mirrors, along with a virtual mirror within the HUD. The 1971 Nissan Skyline GT-R has three functional rear-view mirrors from the interior view - 2 wing mirrors and the interior rear-view mirror. Same with the Jaguar saloon.

My favorite car in the game, the Caterham Superlight, has 2 excellent rear-view mirrors. Same with the BAC Mono.

How can it be more taxing on the game engine to offer a HUD-based mirror, in addition to the mirrors they already have?

Motorsport has always had a rear view mirror in hood and bumper. Cockpit has mirrors in Horizon. Poorly implemented sometimes but it’s there. I think they can do it.

Nit sure why anyone is defending this shortcoming or even finding any reason to contradict the desire for a virtual mirror. It’s already in the game in multiple cars. They just need to make it available for every car. They’ve already got the working code, it’s already been balanced for performance and it works fine. They just need to have a checkbox so it shows up on other cars and put it in a little rectangle… You know, like Forza Motorsport has had, FOR YEARS!

Series X does not have that option at the moment. Hope they add it.

Hope so too - for series X and S.
There was definitly a a promo issued when the series X was being launched with this as a major selling issue to promote sales because I remember it infuriating me so much at the time just after I had asked for it on FH4.
I could probably look back at my ticket history where I noted that they were just stealing ideas for system promotion but again that was just ignored.
maybe they realised so many others had asked for it before that they better drop it rather than annoy even more potential buyers.

I definetly would use a lot more the interior or the hood cam if I had a virtual rear view mirror. In fact I loved the tachyon had a rear view camera, that car feels like a fighter jet and felt really fun to drive… On a lot of cars similar to that one rear view mirror could improve the gameplay and come on the power to move it is there… You can say that interiors are irrelevant as well, rear car interiors in fact, and we have them. We are not asking for a realistic rear view like Gran turismo had on previeous games, where you saw the rear seats (Wich could be even easier because is adding the camera inside the car)… just a virtual way to see what we have behind…

I mean come on, I would be pleased even if the rear view mirror is like in NFS hot pursuit 2010, just a way to see those trolls not breaking in the curves to smash you

It’s very odd that Motorsport has it and Horizon doesn’t. PGG needs to add virtual mirrors. You can vote in this thread. If you want rearview mirrors, vote.
