Spec Racing League

I originally intended this to be a league for my mustang forum, but I’m needing some additional drivers. Listed below is the layout of the league. If you would like to be a part of our league, post with your Gamertag and preferred car number. I’ll do my best to list transfer the comments and suggestions back and forth between this forum and the mustang forum. So far I have 4 total drivers locked in with 2 more in the wings that I’m waiting on definitive answers from.

Idea - As a league we all run the same car with the same modifications. The only difference between the cars will be tuning and driver skill.

Car - I’ve been doing some thinking on the car and I think the Ford GT will be a good car. I’ll upgrade them to somewhere between A and S class so that it’ll be clear no one is running unapproved modifications. That car has the ability to be tuned for straight line speed, handling or anywhere in between based on the aero settings. It’s controllable but can also get sideways when pushed to hard. Should be a good test of skill while also remaining entry level friendly.

Paint Schemes - A special paint scheme is not required, but is encouraged. However a number on the doors and on the rear bumper is required. When you sign up for the league, please list what car number you’d like to have along with the your Gamertag.

Schedule - One night per week (open to ideas on day/time)

Format - As a group we would all enter a private room that I will host. Everyone will need to have a headset and be in the game chat. That way, we can be spotters for each other to cut down on accidents. If you’re going to make a move on someone, a simple “Slik, I’m low” should be enough to let the other person know you’re there and to give room. I would like to see as much door to door, bumper to bumper, passing back and forth as possible.

Race Rules - Simulation damage. Assists are up to the individual driver. Collisions always on (no ghosting). Anyone intentionally wrecking others will be kicked from the league. A little bumping and banging is be expected, especially in this kind of format. However not braking before a turn and slamming someone, intentionally PIT maneuvering someone, etc is prohibited.

Race Day - 1 practice session of roughly 10-15 minutes. Qualifying session of 5 minutes or minimum to make 2 at speed laps. Race itself will be split into two segments. One segment of 10 laps and a second segment of 15 laps. Total race will be 27 laps. After 10 laps the field will slow and recollect. One full pace lap (think caution speed) to allow anyone that wants to pit an opportunity to do so either for tires, fuel or to repair damage. You forfeit your current position to pit. Once everyone has pitted the field will regroup before the finish line straight for a rolling start that will begin with the leader doing a 3-2-1-GO countdown timed for when he is close to finish line.

Points - I will make a google doc spreadsheet that I’ll invite everyone too. Last place will get 1 point, next to last 2 points, so forth until the winner. The race winner will get 3 bonus points for the win on top of the standard points.

I’m completely open to tweaking this format some if anyone has an idea they’d like to throw out.

So let’s hear it, who’s in?

As of right now, car numbers 45 and 5 are spoken for.

branfor14, #14. Weekends would work the best for me.

neemau5, #90, all day

Looks like the day and time is going to be Tuesdays at 10:00pm EST. Is that ok with you two?

The day doesn’t work for me, but you guys can race without me.

This sounds like fun, a rolling start seems like a good idea.
when I get my live account up and working I would like to join.

Change in the car idea since I didn’t realize FM5 won’t allow you to gift cars. I assumed you could but nope. So, now you’ll have to build your own car that fits within the following specs.

-Cars must be of Ford, Chevy, Pontiac, Cadillac, Dodge, Holden, Saleen, Shelby manufacturers. (Vipers are out due to V-10)
-Minimum weight, 3,000 lbs
-Maximum weight, 3,500 lbs
-Maximum Power, 600hp
-V8 motors only
-Full aero package required
-RWD only
-Race compound tires required
-May not exceed A700 PI

Going to be online between 8:30 and 9:00 EST if anyone wants to turn some laps.

Thoughts on Silverstone

The regrouping and restart after 10 laps worked out much better for everyone this week. Seems we’ve all sort of got that worked out. It was also discovered that the Camaro ZL1 could be a threat to the mighty Ford GT as Mitkyl finished a very close 2nd while using the Camaro ZL1. It also appeared there was a big 3 way battle through the entire second segment between gtnluky, bru7f0r3e and orpheus that came all the way to final set of turns.

If anyone is interested in joining the league and running some races with us, I still have 4 spots open. Some of the guys haven’t been able to make it every week, and that hasn’t been a problem.

Next week is Catalunya full course. Finally get out of the dark and dreary Silverstone and into the bright sunshine of Catalunya. As always, the room will be set up around 9pm EST for some practice runs, and the actual race will start at 10pm EST or as close to 10pm EST as possible.

The Catalunya race last night went off pretty smoothly. Seemed like lots of close racing a times. The top 3 finishers were all turning laps within 2 tenths of each other the entire second segment. Also looked like some good racing back through the field as well. Results and season standings listed below. It was good to see Keanu4550 make it for a race, and we picked up a new league member in Lord Mayo. I still have 3 open slots left as well.

Catalunya Results

  1. King Joel 1st (Ford GT)
  2. Mitkyl (Chevy Camaro ZL1)
  3. Slikirish (Chevy Corvette C7)
  4. Not4dubya (Chevy Corvette C5 Z06)
  5. Gtnluky (Ford GT)
  6. Sbc xorpheusx (Chevy Camaro ZL1)
  7. Bru7efor3e (Ford GT)
  8. Lord Mayo (Ford GT)
  9. Keanu4550 (Ford Cobra 00)
  10. Jynx Bandit (Ford GT)

As we can see, we have some pretty good variety in the field now. The Ford GT still seems to be class of the field, but others are catching up with tuning on some different cars.

Season Standings

  1. Slikirish (70)
  2. Not4dubya (61)
  3. Mitkyl (61)
  4. Bru7eforc3 (51)
  5. Gtnluky (49)
  6. Sbc xorpheusx (48)
  7. King joel 1st (46)
  8. Jynx bandit (42)
  9. Neemau5 (26)
  10. Lord Mayo (13)
  11. Keanu4550 (12)
  12. He11storm (4)
  13. Sgt macmilan (4)

Next week is Road Atlanta. Something tells me this will be the week a Ford GT doesn’t win since this is more a speed type track. I should be on sporadically throughout the week testing. If anyone would like to jump in, feel free.

See you all at the track.
