I’m primarily a Forza Motorsport player, never picked up a horizon game, but I’ve kinda had the itch lately.
My main holdup is that Horizon 2 has been out for some time now, and I don’t want to spend the money and jump on board only to have the community jump to the next iteration in a short time.
If this was the GT franchise I wouldn’t be concerned because their release cycle is like waiting on a new Pope, but Forza is pretty regular with releases.
When are we expecting the next horizon?
Based on past releases I would expect Horizon 3 (if there will be one) sometime around fall of 2016.

I see no reason to not get FH2. All game elements are still in place, dlc etc. There are still a lot of people who play it online.
FH2 is a game where you can make really quick progress if youre going for a higher tier in rewards. So it will help you with getting more free credits adn cars.
Due to age, dlc is getting more discounted now so from a financial aspect it saves you money to get the game or the addtional dlc when it’s on sale. Storm island is currently on sale for example.
I am guessing FH3 will be atleast a good half year away from releasing so you have plenty of time to finish it.
If you own a 360 and want to get FH1, then i would advise to jump in imediatly and purchase every dlc and enough tokens asap. Due to the sudden takedown of F4 dlc, i expect FH1 to be next. No indications when it’s dlc is EOL, but when it does happen you are too late to get it (not expecting a heads up on EOL dlc anymore).
So you have 2 options: get fh2 now with a discounted price if you shop smart or wait for the release of fh3 and get it for full price.

Its still a worthy purchase and so is alot of the DLC, I play online alot as I got kind of bored with Fm6 and the community is still very much alive, many full lobbies and good racing (minus the noob crashers), as well as liveries.
Go for it and enjoy it
