Rewind bug still hasn’t been fixed!

I was doing a race that’s part of the ‘Out Of Retirement’ Autumn seasonal championship in the 1931 Bentley 4½ Liter Supercharged, tuned for B-class, on the Horizon Festival Circuit, but just before I got onto Lap 2, I tried to rewind the race, but I kept pressing Y and nothing happened.

It was at this moment that I found out that this stupid rewind bug in Horizon 4 STILL HADN’T BEEN FIXED FOR UPDATE 12. How long must we suffer until it gets fixed?!

You would think that 11 months after the game was first launched in September 2018, nearly 1 whole year after it first came out, that Playground Games would eventually fix the rewind bug, BUT NO!

I hope Playground Games fix it soon, because at this point, I genuinely hope we don’t have a repeat of what happened with Forza Horizon 3’s rewind bug, where the developers flat-out refused to fix the bug, and at no point during the time they supported Horizon 3 did they even bother to fix the bug. For shame.

I mean, it’s almost as bad as when Ford decided not to fix the issue with the Pinto’s exploding fuel tank when Pintos were blowing up and catching fire in rear-end collisons, but at least with Horizon 4’s rewind situation, no one was injured or even killed when their rewind unexpectedly stopped working during a race!

So yeah. Playground Games, this rewind bug fix has been long overdue now. 12 updates of players’ rewind unexpectedly ceasing to function, and nearly a year after the game came out, it still hasn’t been fixed.

Let’s hope that stupid rewind bug gets fixed for Update 13…

Of all the things that could use a looking into in FH4, this isn’t one of the things I hope they look at. Honestly, I have never, repeat, never used rewind in any of the FM or FH games I’ve played. I’m not trying to throw shade at you, and I’m not trying to come across as a “get gud!” kind of guy either. But maybe instead of relying on the rewind function, try to practice driving a little cleaner and not actually needing rewind at all.

Again, not an insult, just an opinion.

Mistakes happen to the best too. If you’re too wide on the last corner and you slip down a position with no chance of regaining that place, its easier to rewind than have to restart the entire thing.

Then you obviously never played Rivals. Rewind is a key feature there to “undirty” flagged laps by rewinding beyond the finish line. Further it’s an effective tool to rewind certain turns to test different lines/practice the optimal line.
It constantly not working (especially in Rivals) is nothing else than a disgrace.
Restart? Doesn’t fix it.
Turning it off/on in the menu? Doesn’t fix it.
Play a different Rivals event? Doesn’t fix it.

From what I can tell it seems to often occur when I’m launching Rivals directly from the race, not from the menu. But latter doesn’t prevent the bug from happening.

I thought rewind “dirties” the lap too?

It does but if you rewind back into the previous lap you can “undirty” your current one if you messed up one of the early turns.

It’s also useful for rewinding back past incidents that happen in the final sector (which dirty the next lap as well), since rewind only ever dirties the current lap regardless of where you use it.

It’s a serious functional fault, a piece of provided functionality that simply doesn’t work properly. These types of bug should always be the 2nd highest priority, with the 1st highest priority being crashes / faults that take out the entire game.

Rewind is a major advantage the game has over GT Sport, which doesn’t have a rewind feature. It’s massively more time consuming to learn a track when you have to wait an entire lap to try out a variation on how you just took a corner, indeed once a track has a sufficient number of corners, it becomes difficult to remember every last detail of how you drove every corner and what you want to do differently, simultaneously for every corner on the track. So I tend to find that barring spending a huge amount of time writing off each lap between repeated attempts at a corner, I can’t really ever learn a track to the same standard without rewind as I can with rewind.

If you think that Rayne and I think this because we’re rubbish, then maybe join us in the rivals thread and show us how it’s done.

I can’t believe you’ve received up votes. I don’t use rewind either, but a bug is a bug, this should be fixed. It’s so irritating to see people online advocating a bug doesn’t get fixed because it doesn’t affect them. It affects the OP, it should be fixed.

Please read my more recent post, this might explain more about my opinion.

Please search for a similar topic to voice your opinions in before creating your own. Thanks.

Since it’s been almost a year and they didn’t fix it last time, I think you have your answer.

IIRC there was a post on a similar thread that quoted one of the devs in a livestream who said something about the rewind bug being too deep in the code to be properly fixed

That’s the problem with how they don’t test games before release. They have this mentality that any bugs that arise, we can just fix later after release. This means way less testing at each stage of the game. They should have caught it earlier in the development of the game when they could have done something about it.

Alright, three things…

  1. I do run rivals. If I mess up, I keep running laps till I get it right. I do not claim to be the fastest, but I can hold my own against more than the average driver. Maybe I’m just used to running without it due to all of the racing games that I play that don’t have it outside of the Forza series.

  2. Comparing GT Sport to FH4 is a bit of a stretch, don’t ya think? Motorsport is much closer to GTS and that’s still a bit off.

  3. If you read my post, I did try not to come across as an arrogant backside. At no point in time did I claim anyone using rewind was good or bad. Words on a forum can be interpreted however the person reading them wants it to be I guess…

At the end of the day, it’s not a game breaking bug. The fact that FH4 seems to want to max my GPU (1080 GTX) 100% of the time is more of a concern to me, and many others. FM7 and FH4 are the only games I have that do this. If your using an XBX, you wouldn’t see that happening. An insane number of tickets later, not one response (to anyone, not just me). So I say good luck on your endeavor, the lack of response tells me that you need to start looking at FH5 for a fix.

Dude, way to contribute to this discussion with your much-needed insight, thanks.

It may not matter a lot to many people, but having a function that is by default mapped to the Y button on the controller not work with a random combination of cars and events just reflects poorly on the reputation of the devs, as much as other bugs and issues would.

Indeed. Whether you use it or not, the fact it’s a feature that is broken shows the quality assurance at PG is second fiddle to brand association (lego of all things) and aesthetics.

This broken feature is among many that have had little to no response. I get it, it’s completely frustrating that something almost a year after release either hasn’t been addressed, or addressed with a “we’ll look into it” response. The team that handles the tickets ghost closes most of them to make their numbers look good (I worked in this type of customer service industry for quite a few years, very familiar with offshore “customer service”). Never mind that the tickets go directly to Microsoft CS who wouldn’t know what we’re talking about in most cases. Sometimes the forum liaisons seem like the want to share info, but can’t. The dev group outside of Retro rarely show themselves, if at all. More information is put out through twitter/facebook than the game’s own forum (which is a mistake if you ask me). It all adds up.

What’s worse is FH4, while having it’s issues, released with FAR fewer problems than FM7. And yet FM7 got the support and for the most part fixed most of the glaring issues.

I feel for everyone having issues. Most of us on here have some sort of issue we’re pushing to get fixed, each one being an individual “flag” in a sea of “flags”…

That quite the stretch you’re making.
