Ray traced shadows

I know that FM has only been out for nearly a month now, but having options for pc players to really push the game to its limits, so that we can achieve the highest quality racing experience to date with graphics to boot would be an amazing feat.

Path tracing will trully enhance the look and feel of forza motorsport, giving us that next gen experience that we have been looking for in motorsport racing. I know with further optimisation of the game and the incredible community that forza as a whole has, we can make forza the best racing experience to date.

Most users of forza motorsport may not have the hardware to experience path tracing, but if the turn 10 team can also generally improve the current raytracing quality that is available to us at thsi current stage i will be truly grateful.

path what?

Path tracing is a complex rendering technique that developers can use to enhance the look of a game, it does this especially by bouncing light rays off objects more than one to create realistic lighting, reflections and shadows.

This has been showcased in the latest patch of cyberpunk 2077 and the new release of Alan Wake 2

what’s there is hardly working, why we want more?

Soooo, let’s let them figure out optimizing the rendering with what there is already please. Lots of examples of hardware not scaling at all!

Thats fair, i did include that in my original post about them optimising

Forza Motorsport needs ray traced shadows and there is obvious staircasing in shadows especially on cars, shadows from trees also appear pixilated.

I absolutely second this! For owners of RTX 4090 cards like myself would appreciate the ability to select a higher quality form of RT. I mean if a game like Cyber Punk 2077 can use full Path Tracing then a non-open world game set on relatively smaller game spaces (like a race track) should be able to implement PT as well… What were you guys doing for 6 years? I am a HUGE FM fanboi (just being honest) and even I I having a hard time justifying the time spent on this game… It’s barely better looking then FM7 and honestly not as pretty as GT7 (which also runs on the last gen PS4!!!). I think Turn 10 and Microsoft need to go back to hiring the best people and not simply checking boxes to appear “woke”. This to me is the problem at your studio. You didn’t hire the best people and your product shows this. It started with Mass Effect Andromeda and now other studios have taken this woke crap on too and destroyed the quality they once held. Please go back to Merit based hiring practices and fix this darn (I was told by the site the word I wanted to use wasn’t “allowed”… ugh) game!

I feel the shadows are not a very high quality in the game with how pixelated the shadows are and that there are no shadows on cars when a light hits it. RTGI would greatly enhance the lighting with light reflecting on the tracks and other objects

I think the PC version needs to collaborate with Nvidia RTX,not just focus on optimizing the performance of console. The lack of RTGI makes the car body look very strange under many lighting conditions

At the same time, there may be some strange white noise in the POV perspective of XSX’s RT performance mode, which was not present in early versions of October and November last year

While this would be nice, properly filtered raster shadows would fix the worst of these issues. As well as options for further cascade distances.

You’ll note horizon has much better shadows without RT. That tech already exists in the engine, so should be much cheaper to implement.

I noticed this too and thought my game was broken.

Hey

Shadows tend to be low resolution at points, as well as the LOD being very poor on for example fencing as I’m driving (not to mention general draw distance). I can be in interior view and there will be a random low res shadow, or on the exterior there will be the shadow of the spoiler or the inside of the bonnet where it dips it will be very low res.

Series X Performance mode is what I use.

Hello @PerpetualHernia . Please try performance RT.

It’s the same when I’ve used that mode too, except that also has the weird ghost-y fuzziness in cockpit view that is way too off-putting and lowers the quality of things too much. That’s why I went back to Perf after trying RT for a while

Yeah I’ve voted. Also, why do cars in replays look like they have no roofs when you look inside? The drivers and dash are completely lit as if there’s sun bouncing off the top of the driver’s helmet but when the car comes close to the camera, the shadows in the interior pop back in? Shadow LOD issues?

I posted videos about this too. Did they forget to add shadows on the inside of cars when they are at a distance from the camera?

I wouldn’t hold my breath as they have still to deliver on their promise to add RTGI to the game, but it would be incredible if they went all the way with path tracing.
