Questions about Horizon Open Racing, is it highly unlikely an average player can win an event?

You might have a few wrong ideas here. First of all, using clutch is fairly easy on top of using manual shifting if you’re going down that road already. It’s also massively easier to just clutch with a button rather than a pedal. M+C will only give you a few more credits for most cars and an actual benefit for only very few cars.

Secondly, keyboard players don’t have it harder than controller / wheel players. Wheel players have it much harder than all others in fact as they will steer themselves to death while others can just leisurely press a button or swipe their thumbs a bit and the game’s not very well optimized for wheels anywys. You can win using the keyboard if you just practice using that (since you’ve seemingly not used controllers much, you should have a bit of practice with the keyboard) just like you can win with anything. Just search for isuckatdriving on youtube. It’s not like open lobbies are full with pros (for good reasons that make open lobbies pretty disappointing to better players) so everyone should have a chance.

I’m not saying everyone will win, we all know there can’t just be winners. There’s no point in blaming it on keyboards however.

Well said - Keyboard players have no loss of control in jumps or whatever , controller players - as you say just have to push a button. I’ve already put a wrist out wrestling with my wheel against controller players… and for some reason they’re always quicker than wheel players.

My main complain is I need to use TCS, especially offroad, because I have 0/1 control of gas. In FH5, cars got a lot more powerful in the same class as in FH4. So driving with keyboard got harder IMHO - I had a lot less problems with winning on keyboard in FH4, but in FH5 I see a lot players much faster than me in the same car or the car I know how fast it is for me. What I wrote above is my experience mostly in Eliminator - many, many times players in lesser cars accelerate faster. Some maybe cheat, but I don’t think so - there was a lot of speculation even in FH4 about players using clutch being faster.

I know dev’s hardly listen to players, but if not ranked online, maybe split it between auto, manual and manual with clutch? Or at least give us a choice… just my two cents.

Thanks for your help. I just won an S1 road race!!!

Boneshaker.

There were only two others in the race, both with less XP than me. I won the first one, and came in last the final 2 races LOL.

I was worried at first that I wouldn’t get the completion, but it popped after the third race.

Thank God that’s over with.

I’ve said elsewhere that it’s possible to get this and annoy others in the process with the Boneshaker.

Those that think they are no good, use the Boneshaker.

I too got it this afternoon thinking it was beyond me.

Not remotely true. I’ve won quite a few open races with auto transmission and random tunes.

The Boneshaker is fast in the right hands but I’ve been in many races where the Boneshaker drivers get a good start and yeet themselves into the woods. I haven’t been in many races where a Boneshaker came out on top.

The main thing is practice, not missing checkpoints, and trying to avoid battles with rammers.

I was also struggling with this - ended up doing a games team event - which we lost - but then got put into a solo event - just me and one other competitor.
I was in a MINI Cooper S and after 12 secs it ended so I thought i’d been tagged but no - the other guy just quit so I won the event doing virtually nothing.
Weird but just goes to show you can win in almost anything if the luck just falls the right way.

Awesome to hear a couple of you won and got the points.

I reckon it was just sheer luck though - so just keep at it…

in open racing i feel like off road is the easiest to win. there are usually less players then other race and most of them don’t know how to control their car on off road surface, just learn how to use e-brake when turn and you’ll have a highly chance to win.

I don’t know if this is a bug on PC only, but when I started to do the seasonal playground games, my team lost the first two playground games, and only two of us remained, my own teammate was griefing me so I decided to leave, coming back to the little notification that the challenge has completed itself for some reason.

If that doesn’t work, I’d try to properly win the seasonal playground games and see if that works for you.

Last resort would be to just jump in the Bone shaker with a meta tune on it and just keeping trying to win one the dirt/cross country races. These are usually less populated from what I’ve heard and you’ve a better chance to win. This is especially true if there are no other bone shakers in the lobby.

Some tips on driving the Bone shaker, it understeers a lot, so turn in earlier, and only power on when you are pointing towards the next checkpoint until you feel more confident. Then you can start pushing more, but beware because the wall slowdown activates at the slightest touch of the wall, especially when you understeer into it.

You’ve got this bro, everyone here knows you can do it

Is this challenge can be done by play ground game?
Is yes I think keep playing Festival playlist Playgound game with FE Mercedes-Benz #24 Tankpool24 should be another easy option?

Within short time limit to get good. This is a dumb design.
this game is not “need for speed” type of easy to play arcade racer can be get good within few week.

Work on your consistency and take advantage of fast drivers’ (usual) lack thereof.

OP here.

Like I mentioned upthread, I finally won an open race yesterday, S1 Boneshaker.

I think the only reason I was able to win was because I lucked out with only two rivals, they both had less XP than me, I started in first place, and the track was relatively straight.

I’m 63 years old, played a fair bit of Forza Horizon 4 before buying 5 last November, and I’m pretty much convinced that I was extremely lucky to get these circumstances which allowed my win.

Otherwise, I don’t stand a chance with a packed field. I’m missing something in fast twitch skills, LOL.

It would be nice if they used some kind of tiered system to allow everyone a chance to compete. They could give rewards proportional to the tier you are in. Then if they added a playlist event like this one, at least people like me wouldn’t feel screwed out of a reasonable chance to get the points.

As far a the Playground Games approach, that’s fine, but many of us don’t like these types of games, and it takes way too long to set the games up and then play them AFAIK.

Anyway, still love the game, but this Playlist Event was a PITA for me.

this challenge is impossible, even if you try to do it in PG like others suggested. i just spent an hour in lobbies only to get the message “event in progress” every time. when i finally did get into a session the game dropped my connection. and to top it all off my topic regarding this subject was deleted by you-know-who. unacceptable.

Average drivers can win. Most of this game is about fundamentals. Knowing the quickest, safest route between checkpoints and having a good car. Even the powerful RWD builds seem to be more forgiving this time.

I didn’t try a ton of different cars but I spent the better part of a Saturday experimenting with manual, manual + clutch, & auto in rivals.

Manual was better than manual + clutch but it was only marginally better than auto and took a lot more effort. There’s no way it would be beneficial for me in races against other players.

Also, if someone feels they’re at a disadvantage by being on k+m why not buy a controller?

What it is the people who race in tour/trail races who think they have to come first ever time are completly at home in open racing as they will do anything to win they will attempt to take out anyone who gets in their way they will often drive overpowered cars just so they can be the fastest they will try to push other racers into barriers just so the other person gets slowed down.
