Welcome to the newly formatted PTG Hot Lap Challenge; a chance to every fortnight prove that you are the best of the best in the world of Forza!
Now, in the previous format, these stagnated somewhat and lacked a bit of zest to it, it was too samey. However, from now on, it won’t just be a case of ‘drive any car round this track’ and make it stick. We now have a rota where they may be specific requirements to be met.
Here’s how it will work:
Every fortnight, a new Hot Lap Challenge will be released, however we will rotate the format slightly to provide a different kind of challenge. We have 4 different formats we will use, which after every 4 HLC’s, will repeat themselves.
They are as follows:
→ Open class; the more traditional way. This is what PTG has been doing for years; here’s a class, here’s a track. Job done.
→ Spotlight; PTG has lots of brilliant tuners who make fantastic cars to set leaderboard lap times in. For the ‘spotlight’ week, we give you a fixed tune, and you take it to a track, and the fastest person in that tune will be the winner, regardless whether or not its a #1 in the world, or #50 in Europe; it’s whoever makes the most of the tools given to them.
→ Homologation Spec; this is what Forza 7 HLC’s have been for the most part prior to the ‘time attack’ update. We give a homologation, you can pick and build any car within that spec and you drive it to the top of the leaderboard. Various PTG tunes will be available for use if you’re not quite as handy with the torque wrench as we are.
→ 'Restrictive Racing; we give you a class and a track once again, but the car you use must use certain criteria. This has been a common format of weekend class racing on other forums which produces close lap times. Examples of what to expect include:
- C class Australian cars
- S class Classic F1
- B class rotary swapped cars
etc.
Furthermore, I shall supplement some track information which may prove useful to those struggling for the top times. I shall say whether its power/handling biased, acceleration based, stability etc. Track info will include how strict the track limits are, how vicious the kerbs are etc.
We will always be open to suggestion for new suggestions for formatting, ideas for the restrictive racing round, recommendations for tunes etc.
Now that the complicated mumbojumbo has gone by the wayside, let’s get into this weeks, shall we?
Format: Open Class
Track choice: Yas Marina Full @ Night
Class: A
Deadline: 26th September 2018
Track Notes:
Yas Marina is definitely an acceleration biased track. Lots of the corners are slow and are followed by a long straight, so pick a car that has high power, relatively light and large tyres to support the power that needs to be had.
The kerbs are a particular cause for concern; entry kerbs seem to be fine but exit kerbs onto straights have a nasty habit of chucking you off the track. Knowing which ones you can attack and which ones you need to steer clear of will be the key to a good lap.
The final sector is very long; stretching from the start of the south layout all the way to the end of the lap. The last sector is also the most technical, with lots of medium speed, high downforce corners which may prove tricky in an acceleration car that is needed to be quick around here.
I’d recommend race aero here, purely for the PI advantage it gives, but also because firstly, it gives more cornering speed and secondly, because top end isn’t particularly important. As long as your car can accelerate well past 150 here, that will be fine.
Rules:
Your car must meet the requirements specified and the lap must be driven at the correct track in the correct conditions.
For laps to count on the leaderboards, then laps must be set in the ‘time attack’ section of rivals mode.
Although the track limits have been mostly fixed, no corner cutting or wall riding, especially to gain an advantage.
For your lap to count you must be a part of the PTG discord.
Laptimes set prior to the start of each HLC will not count. Any set by PTG members are there simply as benchmarks for people to push for.
Laps must be set prior to the deadline of each HLC.
Verifying your laps:
There are two ways to do this:
Taking a screenshot of your lap time by pressing the Xbox Home button, then pressing X to take a screenshot. Alternatively you can use Cortana to take the screenshot for you if you have voice commands active.
