First off thank you for your service! Your designs are rather good. Pulling off just the #43 for the Petty cars is no small feat with the outline and the drop shadow, last time I tried the #43 was on forza 2 and I failed miserably. Great work!
Every hour you spend designing should help you get more and more efficient with getting the designs the way you want them to be. So keep it up!
Also, when it comes to many NASCAR designs, you will find that they use fonts quite similar to some of the fonts that are stock in Forza. People who don’t design NASCAR designs might not know this, and criticize designs with stock fonts incorrectly. DON’T change from a stock font that looks–almost or exactly–like the actual font on the car because you feel you shouldn’t use in-game stock fonts. Same goes for stock in-game logos. Nothing wrong with using them if that’s what the original designs uses!
To give you an example of how avoiding in-game stock fonts can lead to illogical thinking, I saw in a thread on this forum that some designer had changed the font used on their car to something far from the original font because the ACTUAL original font was too similar to one of the in-game stock fonts. That’s just bad thinking. If an in-game stock font is similar to–or exactly like–the original font, use it! If it’s close, it probably means that you can tweak it (by using some letters and create others, or by adding elements [serif lines, lines and curves to make the font bolder, etc etc] to make it more accurate) to make it perfect.
Good luck!
OUTSTANDING! Thanks brother! I guess my term/ meaning of custom font is using the “stock” font & tweaking it. That’s what I did for the “g” in Wrangler", the “p” in STP, etc… With your above info/ guidance; it does make me feel 100% completely comfortable using stock font (when close to an original design).
My next project is to tackle the “Goodyear” decal…both straight horizontal & horseshoe shaped. I just got to be in the mood, mentally, to have the attention to detail & patience to do detailed work & to solve the puzzle on what shapes to use.
I honestly…without any sort of vanity or self-absorbed BS…I honestly think I’m doing a good, or at least an average, job with my designs, especially seeing how I’ve only been creating them since May.
I am NOWHERE near the caliber of painter/ designer that you & other pro(s) are & I welcome any & all advice, guidance, lessons, constructive criticism, etc… because I know that it will only make me better by listening to & learning from a Pro/ Master such as yourself!
Thanks again for the input & advice!
I’m at work & due to an outdated version of Internet Explorer I can’t post pics…however… I’ve made some liveries for different Mustangs. Details to follow:
2015 Mustang: Wood Brothers #21 Purolator (David Pearson)
1969 Boss 302: Roush #6 Valvoline (Mark Martin)
1993 & 2000 Mustang Cobra: Roush #6 Valvoline (Mark Martin)
2007 Mustang GT500: Roush #6 Valvoline (Mark Martin)
***Will take & post pics as soon as I can.
Sounds good mate, I can’t wait to see what these cars look like! It’s good to see you back after your hiatus.
Thanks brother.
I’m still relatively “noobish” so…I’ve had to dedicate some time to learning how to get better at tuning & also getting better a race execution (better race lines, braking, throttle control, etc…).
I made a few more brand/manufactuer decals & still have a bunch more to make so that I’ve got a good pool to pull from when making a livery. I try to make my liveries as close to “replica worthy” as I can…however…I currently don’t have all the decals it takes. I’d say I’ve got 1/2 to 3/4 the number needed for the projects I’ve already done though.
By the way, I forgot to mention that I also did another Camaro livery; details to follow:
1970 Chevy Camaro inspired by Richard Childress Racing’s (RCR) & Dale Earnhardt #3 Wrangler/ Goodwrench NASCAR stock car.
I’m going to keep churning out more liveries & hope to continue to improve on the quality with each one I complete. I’ve started watchin other types of racing series & am looking to eventually start making some current SCCA & retro Trans-Am series liveries (TA, TA2, & TA3).
As always, any & all advice & constructive critisim is welcomed & greatly appreciated.
I’ll keep on checking this out and I can’t wait to see what this new phase brings you.
You mentioned making your own GoodYear logo, not sure what your plan of attack was for this but that is a relatively easy one. Go into a vehicle with a large flat surface (Hummer roof is a good one). Put the Goodyear logo the game provides on it as big as possible. Cover it with shapes to make your own. Make sure to do this in a manner where you don’t have any pieces in the negative spaces as this will make it easy to change colors later. Make the straight one first and then you can just take the letters and move them to create the arched one to fit the wheel wells of the cars you want it arched on.
Hoosier is a good one to do the same manner if you want it to not be purple, not so applicable to doing NASCARs for the most part though since not many NASCARs have used Hoosiers over the years.
For your Pearson car, not sure how the Goodyear logo was on that specific car, but in that era the Goodyear logo was usually blue Goodyear on a white background that is diamond shaped with rounded ends. The back ground for it is pretty easy to make, two circles, two triangles, and a rectangle to fill in the middle, the copy those and resize to get the flue outline. Just match the blue to the blue of the manufacturer logo Goodyear and you’re ready to rock for proper Goodyear logos on the 60’s and early 70’s cars.
Goodyear logo I’m talking about is on the second row of this on the right of the Goodyear logo string.
Huh, I looked up pics of the actual Perason car, I guess that car didn’t use the background on the Goodyear. Kind of surprising to me.
First off, it may seem silly, but I think it is cool as heck to be talking to folks like you…folks whose designs I seen, downloaded, used, & used as inspiration or to copy/trace in decals.
Secondly…thanks for posting that pic above! It will greatly help me in desgining decals & will allow me to make future (or even current) designs of mine go from “replica’ish” to replica!

I’m not much of a NASCAR fan but I can certainly appreciate all the hard work that goes into your logo’s and designs. Excellent stuff mate!
Thanks brother! Being a U.S. citizen…especially being from the southern part of the U.S.; NASCAR was my first taste of professional racing & NASCAR is what made me become a race fan…that & the 01 General Lee (Dukes of Hazzard)…lol.
I’ve broadened my range as far as following different racing series. For the first time, thanks to Forza 5; I try to catch ANY type of racing that comes on the TV. I once would never be curious about Indy cars or F1…nor would I care to watch Trans-Am racing. Now I find that I enjoy all the various types of racing out there & I’m learning more about each sport every time I sit down to watch a race.
Last & most importantly…thank you for the compliment! It means a great deal to me!!!
Your latest batch has been quite nice mate, I really like the Dale Sr. Camaro. My only critique would be to watch out for spamming liveries. Nice work though.
NOOB QUESTION ALERT: What is spamming liveries?
Very nice work as usual.
I really like the fact that you ‘port’ your liveries to a selection of cars. Most players–NASCAR fans in particular–have some favourite liveries and some favourite cars, but the two don’t always go hand in hand. Often, a particular NASCAR livery can have a special meaning to people, and they love to be able to enjoy that livery on a variety of cars.
So just ignore those people who think that a certain livery should only be applied to the car it was originally made for, and keep up your excellent work. After all, you’re the creator here so you’re free to do whatever you want with your designs…
