Probably the first logical thing said in this thread.
I wouldn’t say so much, logical, as… hopeful ? Not a hope I share though. I doubt the actions of the few here in any kind of product tie-in promotion boycott would make a blip on their radar or dissuade them in the slightest from continuing to look for more ways to milk the game and gamers. I even have my doubts these moves have been PGG/T10 involved at all. MS maybe but I’m not even sure there. I suspect it comes more from the other side of the deal. I mean, can you really see PGG/T10 or even MS going out to the nail polish company (name escapes me) and saying “Hey, your merch and our merch could make beautiful money together !”
Well, regardless, dumb tie-ins was not a feature I wanted back from previous Horizon games. At the very least, I can say that Oreo was a better brand to partner up with than a nail polish brand for a video game with a mostly male fanbase, but region locking the Oreo tie-in when Oreo is available is both Europe and the United States is its own special kind of foolish.
It doesn’t really matter which MBA from which company approached which MBA from the other. Either way the result is soulless, uninspired penny-grabbing.
Games are about imagination and inspiration. They used to be (and many still are) born with significant sacrifice by those who conceived them and found ways to make them reality.
And then here comes the talent-free, power-point crunching, bootlicking Mr. MBA and marries a million lines of code that he neither has the wherewithal to understand nor appreciate to a freaking cookie.
Why would we be encouraging this kind of crap?
I’m ashamed to say that, whilst ignoring the other two tie-ins, I fell for this one.
Bought 6 packs, scanned the QR codes, only got a .txt number when I tried to download the images. Tried logging in to the website on my phone but it refused to use my camera despite 3 or 4 allow access agreements.
Not sure how difficult the other two promos were but this one has certainly been a nightmare and a complete waste of time.
Anybody want some free Oreo cookies ?
Sorry to hear that. I’ve got a few liveries for the Cinque if you’re looking for something new. I’m not eligible for the promo, but even if this design was on another gifted Pagani, my first act would be to immediately replace it, bc I fail to see the appeal (but that’s just me).
Thanks for the offer but it was more about owning cars to fulfill my OCD for completing things. Though the previous two were a step too far, I thought I could handle this one - as ridiculous as they all are.
For me this woud be fun. Order pizza to be delivered and get a non-competetive but fun little EV car. Something more than an auto show car with a paint job and PI fluffing.
I don’t mind the odd commercial tie-in. Just don’t like silly games attached or them to be region and/or platform locked. I get why people don’t like them, though.
Likewise. Or at least make them available in the Autoshow after a reasonable “exclusive” time. Not that I trust the devs to be able to do that, consistently at least, and marketing probably won’t even consider such an idea.
EDIT : p.s. Saw a “study” years ago as to why “contests” were getting ever more complicated. Marketing had determined that the more hoops a consumer had to jump through to get the “prize” the more likely they were to buy more product. Not that I believed the research behind that for one minute, but, I suppose there could be a segment of the population that could produce that result, and they might overlap a good deal with the segment that eagerly answers “YES !” when an online/phone/etc. survey lands in their lap, skewing the results. Yeah.
Can confirm that a few people selling legit codes on ebay. $2-3 usd max and yes, they work and yes its instant delivered to your inbox.
Don’t pay more than $2-3 usd for it, cheapest guy still had 172 available.!
I understand. Just don’t be surprised if the “overwhelmingly positive response” to their “exciting promo” makes PGG put ever more effort into such things rather than more costly and complex ways to retain customers, such as…you know…improving their product.

Interesting point. Do they maybe have trouble finding any company with car-related products to fork over money for a tie-in?
Did “Armor-All” just shrug and say “Your silly game is marketed to 12 year olds, no thanks”?
And, if so, why did Ulta do it with a product that is about as far away from 12-year old males and cars as you can get? Did PGG do a dog-&-pony showing the character customization screen with a female avatar, change hair and clothing and the dummy from Ulta stood up and yelled “Sold!” ?

UPS are another one I’d like to see. They have hybrid vans and Mercedes Sprinters.
very appropriate for Horizon, encountered many UPS drivers who drive very badly, and my only memory of dealing with them was receiving something that should have gone to someone else somewhere else and when I sent them an e-mail about it they asked me to deliver it for them (that is neither a joke nor exaggeration)
Out of curiosity, how far away was the intended recipient?
a few miles, it was in the same (fairly large) city
They probably figured it was close enough.
You’de need to be one hell of a QB to make a pass on that one.
