The final evolution of the legendary R35 Nissan GT-R, the Japanese firm pulled out all the stops for the GT-R50. ItalDesign, who have the DeLorean and Maserati Mc12 in their back catalogue, was employed for the design. The engine output was increased to 720 PS, a whopping 120 more than the R35 Nismo, thanks to GT3-spec turbochargers. There are talks of an R36 GT-R, but that is mooted to use some magnitude of electric assist. That would make the GT-R50 the last pure ICE-powered GT-R, ending a legendary lineage of supercar-slaying monsters from Japan that started back in 1969 and spanned 6 generations.
While the concept version is obviously more spectacular, I think I’d actually prefer the production version, which I believe was sold from 2020-2022 (all 50 examples of which have now been sold as of July 2022). Gold accents replaced with black, more standard mirrors rather than the thin aero mirrors, and taillights which don’t invoke “infinity” like the concept did. So it’d probably be easier to render in-game.
Based on the Nissan GT-R NISMO, the car itself was a celebration of two 50th Anniversaries - the GT-R in 2019 and Italdesign in 2018, hence the name and the collaboration. A fitting end to the saga of the R35, installed with the maximum capacity that the Nissan VR38DETT can handle.
Edit: NEVER MIND, the R35 lives on in 2024… It’s gonna get to a 60th anniversary at this rate!
