Needing some clarification

Needing some clarification. Is race livery supposed to be a replica and everything else would be categorized under fantasy?

IMO, but each painter may have their own ideas…

RACE - Replica or Original that uses Race Style Design cues like Number boards
FANTASY - Artwork or Graphic Design that depicts a person, object or theme.

SOME can be judged as both though, depends on the content.

Id usually say take a look at the T10 contests, but there been a lot of Race designs placing in Fantasy but everyone has their own take on it really.

P.S.
Of course everyone could have an opinion but it’s clear that a race livery could be replica or full original, like mine for example, but fantasy are totally a different thing; i think there are no doubts on it and…yes in T10 contest many people seems don’t undertsand that…

Could also be a language problems sometime, maybe some people give a different meaning on word “fantasy” insetead of “original”, it’s a possibility.
For example i’m italiano and “fantasy” is “fantasia”, means something created by imagination and could be also used in wrong way speaking about liveries becouse i could say i do a race livery created by me with fantasia.
But it’s not correct becouse is “original” and is “originale” in italiano, that’s the correct word to use in that case.
I paint a race livery and original “originale” becouse is created by me and never seen before.
That’s why i think could also be a language words problem.

Don’t feel bad, I’ve been doing this forever and it confuses me.

My stuff isn’t replica’s, so should it be in fantasy? Never been officially clarified that I’m aware of.

Mate, at a guess, I’d classify most of your great work as “Original-race” as most are based on race style cars, or aimed at racing circuit style. Some are near Replicas, while others are an Original depiction of your idea of what a race livery should/could look like…

Colour Schemes and Bases these days are definitely a combination of both semi-fantasy and true race breed graphic designed style liveries. Often with elaborate abstract artwork, backed up with professional logos and major sponsors etc.

I’d classify ‘Fantasy’ as those that are 80%+ designs using pure graphic depiction of people, characters, free art, and colour schemes with no major sponsorship and basic logos.

The crossover these days is hard to pick really.

But judging from what I’ve been seeing coming out of the Paint Booth lately, 90% have been true “Replicas” of race breed cars, like all the Huracans and such. Some have very simple backdrops as far as paint colour schemes go, but are almost exact replicas of the logos and major sponsors in that particular race series/style.

There was mention in another thread that the painter be more creative with his work as the car looked like it was just a basic colour with some logos on it.

But in fact, it was a true replica of the real world source vehicle.

While some real world source vehicles have sported very elaborate base colour scheme. But are proper race cars. So they would be proper Replicas.

It’s just so hard to classify some liveries these days.

My designs are mostly originals, now some people would class them as ‘fantasy’ because they are make believe designs but personally i’d class them as race designs as they are all designed to be as realistic as possible taking part in real life race series. I can see where the line becomes a bit blurry but personally to me fantasy designs are the portrait type ones that the highly talented guys do, the anime stuff and even just fancy intricate patterns.
As soon as you put numberboards and race type sponsors/logos on, it then becomes a race design.

Alot of my designs in FM3 and FM4 was blending manga, anime and Vocaloid characters into believable race desings for Super GT or Super Taikyu. I class those as race designs as those were aimed at a specific real life race series. And I agree with you EaRNi, as soon as you put a numberboard and sponsors from a particular race series it becomes a race design. Fantasy designs for me are designs focused on a character, theme or a game/movie, without the required sponsors to make them believable race designs.

Yes we fully agree!
Exactly, number board, sponsors and other details make a race design and could be also with draws; race liveries are often with cartoon character to spot a film or a produt.
So for sure a race original design could have also draws.
In Japan is common see awesome race designs with manga character, mech or other and i love them!

Fantasy is a totally different things like also Koshiro said.
