First and foremost i have to say page 2 made this whole read acceptable again. Gotta love good pics to go along with writings. I will say one thing that everybody is missing with the banter back and forth (funny to read) is that there is actually really good information flowing from one side of the table to the other. I am still learning how to tune and am getting better so even if what was said came off as brash im going to input in my tuning and see what happens. Tuning failures will lead to tuning greatness.
I posted on my own. I’m sitting here on my PC in my room with my dog. Unless Loco works for the NSA and knows what I’m typing and what I’m looking at I have no idea what you are talking about as I’m not speaking to him right now. I think we’ve said something to one another on about 5 occasions in the past year, you’re more than a little off base and out of line. I’ve had more conversations with you than him.
I don’t know man. I think I spent page two of this thread taking it from all sides. If Loco and Dust aren’t your buddies, they make pretty handy henchmen. Why shouldn’t there be team play on both sides of the debate?
There’s that ‘wrong’ word again. There was nothing wrong with the advice being given. This could go in circles forever. Actually, it feels like it has.
Like I said earlier, everyone who has posted into this thread should build up a ZL1 themselves and post back their findings. Does the official leaderboard tune template work with modern muscle? watch this space to find out …
Whatever you want. As my henchmen that I pay millions of dollars to will chime in you may want to PM me. It will probably save Mick his seemingly inevitable vacation for needling me at every opportunity.
I m not afraid of your henchman, i have nothing to prove to anyone.
Banning Mick will not help the dark situation that the TM is going through these days. He s allowed to express himself. If he is attacking you on personnal matter i would understand. But then again, you should also give a vacation to Loco doesn t he deserve it. You have the power and i don t like the way you re using it.
Again these numbers are just estimates close to what i think i remember lol. I will go home tonight and get the full tune. I wll open source it so everybody can try it if you want if not no feelings hurt here.
Mick, there is nothing wrong with advice being given. Lets put that into terms with how you can understand it because obviously you haven’t.
There are two Australians, ones named DUST2DEATH and one is named WearyMick being asked about crocs from a guy. Dust says “hey, that croc will bite your leg off” and Mick says to the guy “nah, just be careful and it won’t bother ya”.
The guy thinks it will be fun and starts playing with the croc and loses his leg.
Mick gave advice, it was okay to do so but here some guy is without a leg because it was wrong.
I’ve warned Loco to calm down way more than I’ve done anything to Mick and this is the first time he’s even gotten a warning. The reason Loco isn’t on my friends list is because of warning him to quit and he’s a bit hard headed and wouldn’t and I was tired of dealing with it, told him so, and we parted ways nicely. The henchmen thing was sarcasm since Mick was under some assumption that I was sending people in the thread when I wasn’t. In fact yesterday Dust and I discussed on Skype even typing in the thread because as soon as you counter something Mick says he jumps down your throat like he did in here and so do many others. It’s why you see very few of the knowledgeable people left on the forums and is a lot of the reason the few left get frustrated. The “dark situation” isn’t because of Mick or anyone else, it’s because people who don’t fully grasp things constantly argue with those that do and outnumber them by a lot. If the old forums were available you would see a lot of petty situations but you would also see people getting help from fast guys because there were lots of them. Now there are what six maybe seven guys left?
My comment on camber and having it early was in reference to Mick saying he was one of the first to find it. I told no one, everyone figured it out for themselves and did so rather quickly. I was in a party with Clay and Eagle a few days after the game came out and it was the main topic anytime someone joined the party from them. Everyone asked said yeah, it’s closer to real life now than it ever was before.
I won’t dispute your roll bars and haven’t. I told him the roll bars were fine or close to it, that is 2.0 difference in what you said. Seems we agreed?
Also on springs I said to leave them alone and gave Mick the reason. The car experienced snap oversteer and stiffening the car is going to make it harder. Agreed again?
If it is the easiest way why haven’t you done it? Isn’t that the point? This makes zero sense to me.
UHHHHHHH you made a choice. My beef was never with you. You know that. A certain other mod with undying loyalty and blind faith was my issue. Still no apology from him for unnecessary editing of posts. It’s cool though. ECT made a decision before xb1 was ever launched that the forums were no longer worth it. Mostly due to T10 politics. The rest was it is not enjoyable any more.
@Rosny please keep my name out of your text. I won’t speak on PTG if you do so. Thank you.
Wow!!! You guys act like your tune is sooooooo different. Rosny that R34 have the V8 in it? How about the Evo 8? 1.6L Rally motor? I mean with sooooooo many different ways why the same conventional build?
The following statement is true "you can build and tune a car any way YOU WANT. There is no WRONG or Right way in that circumstance.
Caveat as long as YOU do not care about lap times or winning.
First thing when tuning, the BUILD MEANS THE MOST. You can spend hours fine tuning, have the greatest tune evar. If the build is no good it’s in vein.
If the OP was building and tuning for Old Lemans/ Le Sarthe, Sebring Short, no aero may have been a viable solution. At Indy not so.
@Loco, i m well aware that the build is the more important aspect of tuning. The main object of our discussion was about how we are setting our value in different ways.
If we all take the same build, it would be interesting to see how we do set our values for the tuning aspect of it. I m strong believer that we can achieve the same laptimes with the same build but with different settings in the tuning menu.
I always respected your work Loco and it will continue that way. If i ever mentionned your name again in one of my text it will be for reference or pointing to a tune of yours. This who i am. No need to start a war between us.
You will have different settings. No one is arguing that. But your diff may read accel 20% decel 10%. Worm’s 18% 8% Dust 24% 15% They will all fall within a range that is very close. Rarely will something be so drastic, that it is the key reason that tune is faster. I mentioned build because it was overlooked. It should have been the first thing mentioned, agreed?
It is very hard to clearly explain tuning settings and sometimes even harder to understand them. Thankfully a good build will give you a leg up on all the cam running guys lol. Build is the most important thing. Settings will generally fall within a conventional range. Exceptions to every rule. But most of us are in that range with our settings. The variations in our settings comes down to feel. How I like my car to feel and vice versa is preference. However that won’t make something “undriveable” from tuner to tuner.
To my recollection I have yet to start a war. I guess I have a lot of time left, so maybe I’ll put it on my bucket list. No reason for any one to be frustrated or upset in this thread. From my point of view as stated above it is hard to explain things. Even in a one on one setting it’s hard. Now add 5-6 voices all chiming in with different opinions, making things even more complicated. Every one wants to help, and that’s great, but sometimes falling back is equally helpful as well.
At the end of the day, we could post every build/tune we have open source and it still wouldn’t help. The person who is looking to learn needs to just run laps and adjust settings and parts until he hates the word tuning. Ask questions here and there and repeat.
It is like an open book exam. You don’t study for an open book exam, so you don’t retain as much as if you had a non open book exam.
I couldn t agree more except for one thing. Diff, camber and tyres pressure will all be in the same range for all of us. This i will give it to you. What i m trying to explain is the way we will set our suspension settings that will be different. I may run higher bump than you, lower arb’s than you, stiffer springs than you. That is my main argument.
We will all get to the same goal, except with different way of dialing our suspension.

Well said, but if everyone could at least have the courtesy of letting expressing our own opinion it would be for the better.
Please don t try to start a war even if you have the time;) i ve been to war and its not something you want to live trough.
