Call it an “Evo SUV” because it has the Lancer Evolution’s 2.0 4G63-T engine under the hood producing 240HP, which is actually detuned that it can’t be too powerful like the Lancer Evo. It is only offered in 5-speed Automatic and it’s a shame that the Manual option wasn’t available for this powerful masterpiece of an SUV. But it can shift gears sequentially like some other Automatic cars.
The Airtrek was introduced in 2001 right before it becomes available internationally (USA and Europe for example) as the Outlander. Of course, the LHD Outlander Turbo (its export model) exists but sadly, its detune gets lesser that it produces 202HP from the same 4G63 engine, which is most likely unfair that the JDM one gets more power than the export.
It makes sense enough that Mitsubishi made this as if you want regular road trips and sporty performance, then this car is for you.
This car came with the 4G63 from the Evo they reduced it a bit, so instead of 280 horses, it became 202 horsepower and 303 NM of torque of course it came with all wheel drive and a 5 speed manual. 0-100 is around 7 seconds more or less . There was a more powerful version it was called Airtek Turbo R with 240 HP but it only had a 5 speed automatic gearbox so it wasn’t much faster than this version.
