The most interesting C111 versions were the II seen above, and the ultra-fast IV seen below. The II featured a 350 PS 4-rotor Wankel engine. The model is displayed in Mercedes’ museum and reportedly had a top speed of 300 km/h, faster than any production car at the time. Further developments of the C111 used diesel engines, but the IV had something a bit more exciting. A 500 PS twin-turbo (petrol) V8, and a top speed of over 400 km/h. In 1978. For reference, the fastest production car at the time, the Lamborghini Countach, couldn’t even reach 300 km/h. 13 Wankel-engined protypes were made, some with luxurious interiors, suggesting Mercedes had serious plans to make another supercar to follow the 300SL. The IV ws more of a tech showcase and a single prototype was made. The late 60s and 70s featured a top speed race between Ferrari and Lamborghini, but the C111 would have blown them both away, and sounded bloody good doing it.
Any of these would be awesome to have in the Forza franchise.
Did you know there is a C111-V? It is a very rare car and was only built privately and there are no images of the car on google.
It was never a fully finished car.
