Mercedes-Benz 540K Sport Cabriolet streamliner by Erdmann & Rossi The Story: Mercedes-Benz commissioned Erdmann & Rossi to body a show car, based on the 500K for the 1935 Barcelona exhibition. One of the people that came to attend the exhibition was King Ghazi of Iraq. He saw the car and wanted to buy it, so he got Mercedes-Benz to make him a car like it. With that, M-B built him a 540K Sport Cabriolet, with the same body design as the 500K show car from Erdmann & Rossi. Unfortunately, at one point in time after he got the car, the young King Ghazi died in a car accident, and it was not in the sport cabriolet. The car survived through WWII and through the Gulf War. It was found in an underground facility in Baghdad, but then ended up in Jordan. At one point, it was sent to Germany for restoration under the instruction of King Hussein of Jordan. As of 2008, the car is on display at the Technik Museum Speyer.
