Is the New Forza Really Locking Difficulty Options Together?

Maybe I’m misinterpreting this image, but it looks like during the builder cup “Club Rules”, “Sport Rules” & “Expert Rules” have difficulty settings bundled together with no customization.

For example, if you wanted Simulation damage you can’t have rewind on. If you want cosmetic damage only, you can’t have full penalties. Why would the game limit our ability to race with difficulty settings we actually want? I run highest difficulty settings BUT with rewind on just in case. Looks like I literally won’t be able to do this in the new game. Odd choice T10, but ok…

Maybe the difficulty options are fully customizable in other events, and only limited in the initial intro series, and/or only limited in the Builder’s Cup, and/or only limited in the early preview build/version.

If not, I’ll just add it to the list of things they keep doing to sabotage their own game.

I wonder if there’s a no damage option - not even cosmetic. I prefer to keep the cars looking pretty.

I honestly wish there was a mechanical damage only so that my cars stayed pretty but the racing was still realistic feeling haha

I agree though, there have been so many questionable decisions made for this game in the name of making it feel new…I’m cautiously optimistic

I don’t think they intentionally did anything “in the name of making it feel new.”
I think it’s just convenient to spin every bad decision as “a new reimagining” to make it easier to turn the blame around on players for “not understanding & appreciating what the game is really about.”
“…Nah, we’re not out-of-touch - it’s the players who are wrong.”

Do we know if we can change race lengths and crank up the credits/ car XP?

No word on that, so I’d guess no

I recall a post where Manteo Max broke down a number of individual Assist options that are also usually associated with the bulk (non-custom) difficulty settings, so I presume that there is still a way to set them individually.

EDIT: Adding link to post

Weird this is coming up as an issue now.

This screen was shown in the Builder’s Cup reveal and in the previews a couple of weeks ago.

Seems pretty much “what you see is what you get”. Doesn’t look like there is any alternative/custom setting at all and none of the content thus far has alluded to or implied otherwise either.

It is customisable in private multiplayer lobbies though, as was shown in the multiplayer reveal.

Personally, I’m going for the Expert setting.

Accessibility options are not the same as difficulty options (penalty strictness, rewinds, damage, fuel usage, tire wear, AI/NPC competitiveness, etc.).

The assists (steering, traction control, ABS, driving line, etc.) have traditionally been linked to the difficulty setting. Even the Auto/Manual used to be, IIRC.

OP’s FM screenshot shows nothing about assists, and the accessibility post you linked says nothing about difficulty, so apparently assists & difficulty are not so closely linked in FM2023.

Driver assists are no longer associated with difficulty and don’t have performance buffs/nerfs associated with them anymore.

First time really taking note of it as it was posted to their Instagram yesterday which brought my focus on it. Pretty wild for the new game to literally lessen the number of options…seems like an obvious no-no

If nothing changed since the demo version for press, then yes, you can’t customize these three rulesets. And yes, that’s odd choice

However, AI difficulty and driving assists are separate.

This is my main fear. Good AI or not this is a real risk. Even in ACC where the AI are considered pretty good, they can still destroy your race in a moment.

But at least here I’m not risking a 1hr race being ruined.

True, though that guy exhibits some awful driving standards. People treat the AI with zero respect.

T2 he sticks his nose so far into the vortex of death to tag the rear quarter of the AI. He had no business being there and should have backed off just a touch to follow the AI to the apex.

And at the chicane they enter side by side and he just goes for the 2nd apex without a care for the other car and giving it racing room. Where is the other car meant to go other than off track, thus precipitating what follows?

They drive like the AI is supposed to just jump out of their way and accommodate every ridiculous move they make.

People drive like that against the AI and then go and do it online and wonder why they get targetted by suicide revenge rammers, wailing about how multiplayer racing is awful.

The whole hero run start from the back and get on the podium thing we had to do in previous games incentivises the worst driving behaviours. And the unrealistic speed overmatch associated with lower difficulties just encourages it further.

I do find it odd that the easiest setting Club Rules gives a 2% bonus. I would expect that the easiest setting would give no bonus or a penalty to winnings. I hope this means that there is some other location to set your preferences individually for no bonus.

I have found in the past that in single player the damage alone is enough to keep me honest against the AI. I really don’t want the added “realism” of worrying about the wrong driver getting the blame for incidents. Even the professionals mess up far too often for my taste. 2 years in a row at Monoco the F1 stewards penalized a driver when they were forced off the track by an overtaking driver making an unsafe pass (sort of like the unsafe pass the player makes in the above video).

Also, I keep repay on as much as I dislike it because this is a game and sometimes I have to drop what I am doing and do something (such as answer a phone).

Please let us set our own preferred combination somewhere. I don’t care if I give up bonus winnings to do so.

Agree with almost every statement in this post. With the difficulties associated with AI having the rewind on the expert setting would be great. I personnaly preferred how you could change settings like traction control, stability management, trans type, etc. and it would change bonuses. But… I also felt it should be reflective of the vehicle, for example a modern LMP or GT4 car should incure no negative impacts for use of traction control, adjustable ABS, or stability management, they are key aspects of these cars performance. But if you are driving a 1955 Bel Air with full aids on it doesn’t reflect the true performance and features of that vehicle. It would be super cool if the TC, STM, ABS worked real-time in game so that they can be adjusted in race from your wheel (if capable and configured to do so) like a real race car typically does when such systems are integrated. I guess we all can dream right…
