So the Mercedes X-Class pickup truck is now available in Forza Horizon 4. So far, judging from what I’ve read on Reddit, people seem to like it. After all, who doesn’t like a pickup truck with a big Benz logo in front? Would it be possible to bring these trucks into the USA in real life?
I’d say it’s highly unlikely. There’s an ancient 25% tariff on trucks built outside the US. That’s why you don’t see the Amarok, Navara, Hilux, etc. in the States. It’s also why all of the Japanese trucks are built in the US. The X-Class is built on the Nissan Navara platform in Spain and Argentina so they’d have to set up shop in the States if they want to sell it here.
There’s a couple other reasons to be skeptical, this article sums it up nicely.
A long bed version of the X-Class was spotted testing in the US so who knows, anything is possible I guess, but I remain doubtful. The Americans seem to love outdated regulations and good ol’ American pick-up trucks.
