I’ve (re)installed FH5 again yesterday. The game did start a couple of times but not without issues. It randomly simply quit running multiple times without further notification after the start pop-up picture with the AMG One. Which I just shrug off. Today it won’t start at all.
That’s why I looked a little bit deeper into where the problem could be and found the following issues.
Since I wasn’t asked on which partition I wanted to install the game in the MS Store I made sure to have everything set to actually use the right path (which is partition E: in this case). I’ve done so by using the respective features in Windows and the Xbox app.
The base game was actually installed on the selected partition but the two DLCs magically installed on the Windows system partition (C:). Which shouldn’t even be possible!
Why? Only the dilettantees from PGG know…or maybe not considering their lack of competence.
There also is no way to move the DLCs over to E: in a proper way because they don’t show up under the installed apps. I could move them manually but this would mean I’d have to also manually edit the registry which I simply can’t be bothered to do.
My guess is that it’s exactly this “split” installation that’s causing trouble when starting the game not only for me.
/edit: I’ve actually found the option to move them over to the right partition but that unfortunately doesn’t cures the game not wanting to start.
Additionally I don’t understand why the installation creates the folder mess shown below when the respective setting in the Xbox app clearly states everything gets installed under E:\XboxGames?
Besides that what’s up with the permission settings of the FH5 related folders? Why do I (registered as the system admin) have to manually edit the permissions of them if I want to change anything or simply delete any of the folders? Please tell me!
I’m not sure if it will help but you could try this:
Make sure your region in windows is set to the same as your timezone. I know under certain circumstances the game could crash in the exact same way if those differ. I don’t know its some universal thing, just know it can happen.
Delete your config file and let it create a new one, just in case.
Reduce your settings if you can get into the options menu, lots of crashes I’ve experienced come from running out of ram. After upgrading to 32GB it almost never happens anymore, mainly just from bugs now.
Try not to alt+tab or move your mouse away from the game until it is fully loaded. FH5 has never liked not being in focus.
It was already starting a couple of times with changed ingame settings yesterday. So, I doubt that’s the issue.
As said I couldn’t start it anymore. I’ve 32GB RAM.
I’ve tried multiple approaches like just starting the game with the minimum and just necessary stuff running in the background, minimizing the game after starting, with and without having the Xbox app and/or gamebar open at the start, having a browser open at the same time (it actually worked once yesterday this way but that maybe was just a coincidence), with and without the wheel plugged-in and so on and so forth.
I did think of two extra things after I made that post, if you’re using a VPN make sure to disable it. Or match your region/timezone to the VPN (its weird but this is part of that circumstance). Also try using the repair tool in xbox app, it might help? I’ve not needed to use it, so I don’t know how good it is, but maybe it could fix it.
You can choose “Advanced Management Features” in Xbox App to unlock the permissions so you can view the game folder for FH5 (not FH3/4 or FM7 though). I’m not sure about the other folders OP mentioned, since I haven’t noticed it being installed in multiple locations for mine after doing that. But also to be fair I haven’t looked that deeply.
IIRC viewing never was an issue. The problem is that it won’t delete all the folders it created after uninstalling and just leaves a mess which you need admin rights to delete manually.
The folders are only created on the partition the base game is installed on. It’ll create all the “F” marked folders shown above. The blanked out one is your username in case you’re wondering.
Completely fresh install and the game won’t start (just quits after start pop-up). What the hell!?!
Sidenote: This time it installed the DLCs at the right destination. Not sure what went wrong during the first attempt but this time it downloaded the basegame and the DLCs after another and not at the same time like before.
After a couple of attempts I started it as admin which triggered the file/data synchronisation. That wasn’t triggering when starting the game “normal” before. The game still doesn’t started after it was done mind you.
I’ve tried multiple approaches starting normal, as admin and even allowed the app to run things in the background (which is normally turned off by default) with no luck. Then I started it via the Xbox app and low and behold it fired up.
Not sure if that’s the reason for it starting this time because I think @Jezza14 mentioned somewhere that it’s completely random if it starts or not. What ever is causing this it’s more than just a PITA and needs to be addressed immediately.
Sidenote: I’ve noticed that I had to recollect the first RA accolade again which I already had done the last time it worked. The same goes for the rewards for paints and tunes which I definitely had collected already last time. I know this for sure because I went from 920 million credits to 921. Today I could recollect the same 800k credits again (plus some new) which means I’m at 922 now. There is definitely something wrong with the saving/syncing here!
Yes, it’s still a problem after the update from yesterday. It’ll only randomly start for me but if I try often enough it’ll eventually start after a couple of tries.

Voted. Yeah since the Rally expansion the game gets stuck on loading on the second screen after clicking on “continue”. This is on my desktop PC running MS store version of game. Intel i5-12600KF, RTX 3070, 32GB Ram, SSD drive. The game loads fine on my laptop.
The workaround to get the game to finish loading and run is to also have a browser running then alt tab back and forth between the game and the browser a couple of times. This is after letting the game sit for a couple of minutes after pressing continue.
@Banjacked8153 Hey, I just wanted to come back to a couple of things you said in the various threads related to this issue.
At first thanks for the offer to look at my PC if you’d live in my vincinity but I surely wouldn’t hand it over to somebody I don’t know and surely not for some days.
When it comes to me not using Win11. Even the recommended requirements say Win10 and the hardware I’m using is/has basically twice of what’s recommended. The issue clearly isn’t on my side here and the ball is laying far back in their playing field figuratevly spoken.
That said it seems like hammering the FH5 icon if the start pop-up is resizing does the trick. It at least worked the last couple of times I’ve tried it but this is of course only a workaround and not a fix to the actual problem.
