I use the tuning app at bg55.com and it asks for the down force. Cars will often have their own innate down force (a wedge shaped car will have far more than a brick shaped car). Is the innate down force listed anywhere?
In a similar vein, where can I find what the innate settings are for non-race spec equipment, like breaks, roll bars, etc.
I’d like to know the stats so I can see if they are close enough to where I have my race spec stuff set to that I can swap out the gear and save a couple PI points in a responsible manner.
Thanks!
The game doesn’t seem to model lift or downforce generated by the body of the car, sadly.
Explanation for anybody that has spent zero time studying auto aerodynamics (most sane people): the entire body of a car acts like a wing on an airplane. If air is flowing faster over the top of the car compared to the bottom, you experience lift (the opposite of downforce). If you make air flow faster below the car than above it using a flat underbody, diffuser, and other body pieces to prevent too much air from getting under the car in the first place, the entire body of the car will create downforce without a huge wing on the back.
My best guess is that this is what the “speed” stat is sort of supposed to represent, as there are some cars that accelerate much faster at higher speeds than their horsepower numbers suggest they should while also allowing for very good handling.
Cars with front or rear bumpers do generate small downforce even without aero kits installed.
This is usually 10 lbs on the front and 25 lbs on the rear. If the car has a small rear wing in stock form this adds another 25lbs on the rear.
