Avatars are ok, making them part of the reward system isn’t, they’re but bloody fillers.
Those avatar cosmetics feel worse than the 1,000 CR pop-up. And what’s the whole point anyway? You notice the avatars only in the result screen. So much wasted work & energy… but for the lady with the afro they don’t even look human.
Odd that they now have all these ancillary clothing options and accessories for customizing your characters in the game, including hats, but no actual racing helmets?
Massive oversight or what? I see there are a few of the motorcycle helmets with goggles from those dirt bike guys in that one showcase, but other than that there’s only normal hats and beanies for headgear. No standard or classic helmets. There’s so much they could pull from: The Evolution of Racing Helmets | Donut Media - YouTube it’s bizarre how they didn’t include any. Not even one.
I’m still super early in the game but it’s one of those minor details that stood out to me immediately when that dress-up feature was introduced. Did I miss something in the jumble of items?
The spins need to be less about clothing, and those stupid dances. Also the PR stunts are all but impossible. I thought about not getting this game and waited until the last minute. I’m regretting my decision to jump in. I hope there are serious improvements SOON!
It’s not too bad, we have more wheelspins than ever, and a 3-prize wheelspin too! On top of that, hey you bought property, have 10 Big Wheel Spins… it’s A LOT.
Sure there are clothing and cosmetics, but the game does an excellent job of throwing them at you, and it always really feels good when the spin lands on big money or a nice car.
Except you’re wrong, as turn 10 have never had horns in their forza titles. Fh3 had horns, also the horizon series has always had avatars, you just couldn’t chose sex, race or anything else. If you remember, the previous titles had an avatar walking up to the car, and in cut scenes being talked to by key figures in the story.
I largely agree with the sentiments expressed here. There’s nothing wrong with customizable avatars, but FH4 puts way too much emphasis on them (and the silly novelty horns) to the point that it distracts from the rest of the game. Having a super wheelspin wasted by customization items is most definitely not fun for me. I bought the game for the cars, not the customizable avatars.
On top of that, at least from my perspective, most of the customization items are over-the-top ridiculous (especially those dance emotes). Having a few over-the-top silly items as a reward for completing some crazy achievement in the game is fine (chicken suit and dance for some sort of “chickening-out” achievement?), but to have that same level of silliness infect nearly every aspect of customization is not.
A better system might have been to remove customization items from wheelspins entirely (or better yet, remove wheelspins from the game entirely since as has been mentioned, they’re loot boxes by a different name). Instead, have all common customization items available from the start so players have plenty of options for personalizing their avatars right away. Allow most of the clothes to have multiple color choices and remove the duplicates that are just color swaps. Add more realistic racing gear clothing as well.
Rarer items could unlock via game progression. For example, if you want to dress up like royalty (and get the regal wave and royalty horn), buy Edinburgh castle. Want to dress up as a woodsman? Buy the huntsman’s cottage. Want the Halo stuff? Complete the Halo showcase. Items that don’t really tie into anything in-game could unlock based on character level.
Also, if we’re going all-in with character customization now, then I would really like to see a proper character creator so we can fully customize our avatar. That and make custom horns and license plates be per-car instead of global.
Some people don’t seem to understand that Forza motorsport and horizon are two different games. Horizon has always been an open world driving game with the emphasis on fun. If you want a serious sim your looking in the wrong place.
I’m a grumpy old gamer but I’m rocking it in my cowboy hat, gold shorts and yellow wellies. Chill out people.
Some people don’t understand that first and foremost this is a racing game and that’s where the emphasis should be. Not useless rubbish like clothes, emotes and dance moves. If you want to play dress ups go play Ken & Barbie’s Dress Up Party.
I spend the vast majority of my time in the game racing. I take a few minutes here and there messing about. I suppose you look down on painters that probably spend most of their time on designs.
I’ll let you get back to your hard-core racer, driving through dry walls and take off ramps.
I agree those who want just racing should just stick with FM as that is the serious racers game, FH has always been about fun and enjoying yourself in FH4 they have taken it a step further with the customisable avatars and emotes, I happen to like both, some people need to lighten up and chill either enjoy it for what it is or play somthing else life’s too short to bellyache, cry and whinge about a game.
Everyone plays as he wants, I do not like FH7 for closed tracks, i like open world. And somehow I did not mind the FH3 to “seriously” race in class s2 with the collisions turned off.
All you need is a suitable group of rivals, and the gameplay is at the right level
I was thinking, why dont they just lower the ratio of clothing accessories and ridiculous emotes and bring in some upgraded performance parts, something useful? Even tires will suffice or drivetrain swap, something to keep us users happy.
I know upgrades are rather cheap but hell why not?
But I do agree however, seems like its going towards a “Sims” like approach
This is without a doubt the single best post that has been put up since the release of this game. What is likely to be the best racing game we have ever had on an Xbox console has been sadly made thin by this overwhelming layer of non Automobile Junk.
The mention of loss of immersion had not really dawned on me, but there was something that was making me not get as deep into this game as I should. On all levels: the racing , the visual quality, the fun, all of those things seem perfect and yet something feels wrong with this game. And that’s what it is… after every race or event I have to watch my plain faced character dance with a bunch of horrible clothing. Then before I race I have to watch the same thing again, it’s far too overdone and unnecessary.
A little bit is okay even though it’s not my thing. At the level we are at right now its just stupid. And sadly it’s not going away because his game is now trying to also appeal to a much younger crowd, who apparently like this. However I don’t see how anyone can enjoy playing a racing game with Dance Dance Revolution characters every 2 minutes. It’s like watching your favorite show with a commercial every 30 seconds. You’re just getting into the story, some characters are building, things are happening, and then some commercial for Old Navy totally ruins the experience.
I realize Forza Motorsport is the serious racing game that they produce. Even that has outfits but at least they’re race-related. But this has definitely gone extremely over-the-top. Add to that the fact that its forced on us with wheel spins and cutscenes continuously.
I doubt there will be any kind of patch change to make the game different. However if enough of us voice our opinions who knows. And if nothing else hopefully in the next one there will be less of it. But I wouldn’t hold my breath.
I realize those of us posting on the forum are not the entirety of the fanbase. In fact we’re mostly a specialized group that are really into the racing and not just an average gamer. But that being said, if you look through the first page of forum posts they are dominated with the same thought from many people coming from many different angles. Listen up turn 10 and playground we don’t want your blue slippers and gold shorts we want cars and racing. It’s okay to garnish wonderfully made meal. But don’t cover it with inedible flowers
