Cosmo. I’m running garbage laps in the 38.5-.7 range mostly due to being unable to hit a few corners at proper speed. I brake too much or curb hop the corners.
The missile Corolla works in D at this track too. I thought about bumping up my car but I figured it wouldn’t work in C since it didn’t appear anyone was using such a build and other missile builds I tried were just ok.

Well, it’s mid-week, so, I decided to move on to some of the LB cars now. I loved my '73 TA and will certainly give it another go prior to the end of this HL, yet, time to move on.
Mazda Cosmo @ 1:39.951 (Note: I had better dirties with my TA.)
“Life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans” that John Lennon knew what he was talking about!! No driving time last night, had some on call calls. Hopefully tonight! I agree completely that this is the most difficult so far. When I get the 1st turn to 1st half right I end doing something at the end that kills it. Oh well, few more days to go. Still haven’t tried any of the top 100 cars yet.
Yeah, nothing that spectacular. I am a maintenance guy for a bunch of apt communities. 7 properties and about 500 units total. On call is usually anything from a plugged toilet to no A/C to major water leak/damage to anything really. I used to do maint for National Amusements when they had a bunch of theaters in the area. That was alot more fun, no oncall and alot less dealing with other people’s bad habits, lol!!
As far as the comp, I finally got a new PB with a Torana. A 1:42.293. I know thats nothing awesome, all youz guyz and your 1:39s!!! Haha. But I’m getting a little better on this track, haven’t tried any of the top 100 yet and I am TRYING to use clutch as of this morning. So I’m happy with the improvement, as little as it may be. I shared the Torana, there’s much more in it than I got from with it bad shifts and such. If anybody gives it a shot, let me know what you think.
And SL4YER, nice to see you back!! I’m quite certain you’ll be passing me quite quickly if not already!
Man, Zepp. That’s quite a lot to deal with! Sounds like you get more than a few headaches with your job. The software stuff I deal with is definitely not spectacular…your run of the mill boring accounting apps and such. And as I get older, I get more “allergic” to on call duties.
Hey, I was thinking about a Torana. Good call! I might give it a shot if I get a chance. And good time too! This IS a tough track. If I get turn 1 right, I’m BOUND to mess up turn 4! And vice versa. Oh well…
I didn’t forget your Torana. I gave it a run the other night.
First off, I really like your paint for it! Really matches the car. And a good choice of wheels. The car sounds awesome, kind of like old-school Nascar! Good power, I think this car has real potential.
I drove it for quite a few laps getting a feel for it, and got down to a 1:43.1. It felt like it needed the accel bumped down a little, and it didn’t want to turn-in as well as I’d like, a little slow on turn-in I guess. It is a really fun car though. I think it is close, and I think it could be a sleeper!
So, I took your build and tried my hand at tuning it. I stiffened the springs and ARBs up more than usual, upped the camber (-1.8/-1.8 if you’re interested), dialed in some more oversteer for the corners, and it started picking up! I could feel more grip in the corners. I was consistently getting it into the low 1:42s. But I think it could be much better. I looked at the 5.7, but not enough PI. Your staying stock was a better idea. But I think it needs street tires, and maybe adjusting the build that way, the car would pick up speed in the corners. This car is really light for a muscle car. It SHOULD be a handling demon, with the right build/tune! I definitely want to explore this some more! I really like the car!
Anyway, I enjoyed your car. Really good job. Maybe we should do a tuning collaboration on it at some point?
I have an Alfa Milano shared that HLR Bubba ran into the top 100 His time was 1:39.461.
Like a few others I decided it was time to bring out my Cosmo LOL. After far too many laps I managed to get my PB down to 1:39.119 #51. I’ve had enough for one night but will give it another shot tomorrow.
It’s literally the best cosmo and shared tuned you can find for this track.
Don’t let the low HP fool you. It’s faster in a straight line than the 201hp builds with identical handling and similar low end acceleration.
I consistently botch half the track, but when you only botch one corner it’ll run a mid 38.5. It should do 38 flats or better if you can put together a solid lap.
It’s that good of a car. I’m only sharing it because I cannot stand this track.
.
That makes 2 of us Swerve! My best Cosmo build is set at 195 HP, with stats at 5.0/5.8/7.0/6.0 and at 1838 lbs. Yet, it is driving me CRAZY…in my case, the problem is the Driver combined with such a hard track.
I’ll give your tune a shot sometime tomorrow!
** Please let me know if you’d be interested in checking out an Elan that I just put together for this track today and I’ll share it. It’s doing better than my Cosmo by 0.5 sec, yet, all inconsistent (bad driver) “barely” dirty laps.
I’ll try the elan for no more than 10 laps. I cannot stand that car. Lol. It’s a weird pet peeve of mine. I’m definitely in the anti-elan forza political party movement.
Oh and just an FYI, I intentionally jacked up the rear sway bars in the Cosmo. Found out that was needed to do the quick twitch turn ins. It still curb hops turn 5 but the other curbs can be used…usually. Apparently FM4 bump settings are needed here.
Miura: 1:41.510 → Oh yeah! I cracked the 1:41s first with this! Lancia 037: 1:41.376 → Wanted to build and try something new for me. This car has a ton of grip. Maybe too much grip for this class. I took out all the tires I could and added as much power as I could and it still needs more! I had to really work to get this time. Still short of the 1:40s!
