Tune is up for download. No Aero '70 Cougar Eliminator. I’ve always been partial to No Aero…
I am very happy with the feel, made it easy to drive, but that’s not going to be enough. My best time was 1:38.49. Likely Clay or other top Drivers will knock a second off. I would be surprised if someone broke into 36’s with it, but who knows…anything is possible.
On a side note, Clay put up #22 with Swerve’s tune.
That leaves just three cars left to complete the field:
1970 AMC Rebel “The Machine”
1972 Ford Falcon XA GT-HO
1977 Holden Torana A9X
RULES AMENDMENT #1 - The following cars have been disqualified on account of the fact that they are not generally available to the public:
1969 Chevrolet Camaro Super Sport FE
1969 Dodge Charger Daytona HEMI
1973 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am SD-455
I needed a rest from the frustration on not being able to get my car where I want it to be so I took the early entries for a 5 lap spin.
fifty inch - 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 302 = 1:37.832
Drove really well once I diagnosed that the tune didn’t load the first time, a perfect 1:46 lap had me scathing my head until I exited and saw the D class PI of a bone stock car. Very easy to drive aggressively attacking the esses but it might have tightened up just a smidgen mid corner which resulted in a few missed apexes and slightly behind my PB. Not much else to say it did what it was supposed to do. Definitely a contender in better hands.
HLR Juggernaut - 1969 Dodge Charger R/T = 1:38.125
Super easy to put the power down and well balanced in-through-and-out of the corner but I wasted 3 laps missing the power band and struggled with very high forces on the wheel while cornering. I’m not sure if it is FFB thing or just more oversteer that I wanted. Dropping it down a gear helped me get the car turned but it felt totally wrong and usually resulted in winding the motor way past where it needed to be. No mater how much I tried, I just kept over driving it. Slow in, Fast out, pulling a tall gear should definitely get it done. I easily left a second on the track being in the wrong gear at the wrong time. I need to go watch your replay.
MARsSPEED. - 1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator = 1:38.621
WHAHOO, what a blast to drive, it carved through the corners effortlessly but unfortunately that meant it was easily driven into oversteer. Oh but what fun that was drifting with the tail out 100% controllable. What a hoot! I easily lost 0.6s drifting turn one and still ran under 1:39. Hell I even linked a couple of the esses. I have never been able to do that with any car in any forza. Just like with Jugg’s Charger, when you shift matters. I probably left 0.5s on the track missing shifts. I’m confident with more seat time I’d be trowing down a new PB.
Greatly appreciate the feedback! Tuning Muscle Cars with No Aero and skinny tires is no easy task!
Played with all suspension aspects for about 2 hours. Ended up being very happy with the damping for switchbacks which is crucial for RA, however, very tough to find just the understeer and oversteer. It was too loose or too tight. Played with turn in with the same result. The final is what ended up being most comfortable for me.
As for shifting, due to the torque curve in the stock engine, I found it is best to shift +- 500 RPM before redline. Hope this helps. Cheers!
Thank you for the review.
The shift point of that Charger is just beyond redline, so revving it up halfway between redline and 7000rpm (First full number beyond redline) is pretty much the shiftpoint. And as the engine is very torquey it pulls nicely up from 4000rpm
And yes there is a bit oversteer in it, as I quite like it. I like to “steer with throttle” quite a bit, and in case of minor oversteer it just welcome in looser corners, where I just keep my foot in to it, and steer out of it. As long as it’m not making tire smoke it’s exactly where I want it. Then again on some cars I intentionally clutchkick to get it turning more even with the risk of getting too much oversteer, just to take away the need to lift because of understeer, And occasionally I add a tap of handbrake to bring the rev’s down bit faster to improve engine braking and therefore front grip. How ever that tap is very fast and doesnt cause a slide (you can see on laps 2 and 3 in the replay, at the start of the back straight)
Sorry Juggs - small typo “than I wanted” should have been a “that I wanted”. I actually felt is was uncharacteristically tight for one of your tunes and I wanted even more oversteer. I am, however, suspicious that my wheel settings have something to do with it. Keeping the revs up definitely helped loosen the car up but I was 3 mph faster at the end of the strait and 0.5s faster overall short shifting long before the HUD (6500) redline around 5900rpm. That is almost exactly halfway between redline and 7000 rpm on the in-dash Tach so I think we are in agreement. I have no idea which button is the handbrake and I haven’t got my clutch working at the moment so all I was left with was a hard down shift and some throttle to kick the tail around. Down around 4000 rpm it just hooked up too well and I was no longer able to steer with throttle. Perfect example of how a tune needs to match the driving style, it definitely needs to be driven how you describe. Thanks again for submitting it.
What did I learn by tuning the Falcon XA GT HO, it is a piece of … must be one of the laziest car I ve tuned in my time in forza. My guess is this will be one of the weakest car of the div.
