Help me tune my S1 Ferrari 288 GTO

So with FH2, I had the Ferrari GTO tuned as S1-900. As far as I can tell, it was unbeatable, except for the Ferrari 330 P4 (I felt that this was the only car that could really beat my car (had more speed on straight away) - taking into account of mistakes that I made)… (So I bought a 330 for FH3, and find it no different than the GTO, but that is another story, waste of 2M credits.)

Since I liked the car so much in FH2, I had to have it in FH3. It seems different, but capable. The tune is below.

The original tune is based upon one that I found for a Venano (I think it was on youtube). It seemed pretty strong, it seemed to work with my driving style (AWD, Rear Bias, lots of Camber and Downforce) so I went for it on most of my cars.

So, how can I make this better? (or what other tunes would you suggest?) I did not want to just download a tune from the ‘store’, as I would not be able to modify it. With FH2, I once downloaded at tune that was so bad, I thought my controller was broken.

I kind of specialize in S1. Before you tune, you should make sure your build is a great one first.

If you’re planning to drive that beautiful Ferrari on asphalt/tarmac/road, your build there is short on horsepower in general. I’m assuming you used race tires. For this car, your build looks aimed at only the tightest 3 or 4 circuits since you went with race weight as well. If you are going to go with both race tires and weight with the 288, when you start on engine upgrades, maximize horsepower without worrying about weight. The car’s handling is already overkill and a lot has been sacrificed for it, so it needs all the extra grunt you can find. Turbos and cams give the most bang for your buck. For the 288, race oil is worth it. Basically, parts like race exhaust that split benefit benefit between power and less weight should be saved for last. With the stock engine, you can have more than 500 hp and still have race tires and race weight reduction. Even on the tightest circuits this extra power in the 288 lowers the possible lap times.

As for that tune, I can see that tune working. Some things are taste, but the springs and ARBs look reasonable. The only things I might really have an issue with are the camber and caster. Maybe in S2 for that much camber, and, again, the car is already set up to handle. I’d prefer a more straight up tire with a little more caster angle to get all I could on straights. There aren’t many high G sweepers in the game and the tight circuits have high speed sections, too.

There is no one best build in game since it depends on the event, but if you’re interested in a build with full aero and AWD that’s competitive in a lot more events because it’s close in handling but a lot more powerful, considered this one:

AWD
stock engine

race bumper
race wing

sport tires
225 mm fronts
335 mm rears

race transmission
race diff

race brakes
race springs
race front and rear ARBs
race weight

race turbo
race cams
race block
race fuel
race ignition
race pistons
race oil
race exhaust

speed - 8.3
handling - 7.8
acceleration - 9.8
launch - 10
braking - 9.3

634 hp, 514 ft/lbs, 2570 lbs

Thanks for the suggestion - I see what you mean that more power would be more beneficial than just saving weight. And yes, I did have race tires on it.

I was always under the impression that weight is key, but then again I get bounced around by the bigger boys

Once again, thanks for your well thought out reply - but it might take me a few days to find time to try it out.

You’re welcome. I played a lot of FH2 as well and weight was a much bigger factor in that game. They redid the PI system and adjusted the cost of parts in FH3 so now power is cheaper in terms of PI, and it’s completely changed how we have to build cars. I’m not sure I like the changes and I don’t think they meant for it to have such a big impact, either … but I guess we all have to adapt.

By the way, the changes affect the lower classes even more, and that’s a big reason why I spend so much time in S1 class. It’s possible to have over 1000 hp in C and B class. The handling is terrible but all that power wins out in a lot of events, especially Street Races. Most of those favor power builds. Balanced builds compete better the higher the class.
