I have been playing Halo 5 online for 2 days now and havent gotten a code, I’m in CST, my friends got theirs a week ago. What Gives?

I’m a pretty patient guy, but with the (early) release just a few days away I’m getting kind of antsy. I’m not here to complain, I just figured I’d throw my name in the hat. I played both games when they launched which seems to be the problem scenario for the majority. It would be great if we got an update or some communication (that statement however feels tired and overused these days).

Honestly I’m not optimistic about getting the code before launch anymore. It feels like the goal of this is to just blanket as many Halo fans as possible with an incentive to buy Horizon 3, rather than rewarding people already on the boat.

I agree and am in the same place. I’m well aware of the number needed to send out, and I am patient, but we are now less than a week until UE launch, and the fact that there a still quite a few people who haven’t gotten one yet to me almost suggests an inability for the team or teams to send this out to so many people.

This reeks more of cross-advertisement and purchasing more than “hey, you like Forza, you like Halo, what if they were combined?!?!?” I almost think they bit off more than they could chew, saying “let’s send out codes to everyone who played an XB1 main Halo title!” before actually realizing how many people played them. Millions. This might be the single largest code give-out in history, and they certainly didn’t give themselves much time to do it. 18 days to be exact, and a bit more than two weeks isn’t much time for millions of codes unless you had people working 24/7 giving them out. And if the “in waves” theory is correct, they aren’t.

Although now that I think about it, the Rocket 69 and GT GTLM were quite a large amount of codes too, yet it worked out just fine for pretty much everyone. Don’t know what’s so different about this one.

Edit: I’m reading back at some of the older news articles, and the 9-9-16 WIR says:

To get your Warthog code, you need to play either Halo 5: Guardians or Halo: The Master Chief Collection on Xbox One by September 23. After that you’ll be automatically sent a code in your Xbox Live Message Center. In other words, if you’ve got one of these Halo games but haven’t played it yet, or you have been considering a purchase, do it now! You don’t want to miss out.

And yet right above it:

While players will have a chance to earn the Warthog via a special #Forzathon event in October, there’s no better way to kick off your FH3 experience on Sept. 27 than by knowing that the Warthog is waiting for you.

Emphasis mine might be the problem. Looking at it, you need to play the game(s) by the 23rd. Nothing necessarily saying you’ll get the code by the 23rd. I put emphasis on the 27th because, while that might just be because that’s the launch date of the Standard and Deluxe editions, that could also be the “you’ll get your code by” date. Meaning those who got the Ultimate Edition might not even have their code to use on their launch date.

I don’t know guys. I’ll still wait for the message in my inbox like a good boy, but it would be nice to have when I play it on Friday, or at least tell me I won’t.

I hate to open a can of worms, but that’s not strictly true. The cut off for playing Halo 5 Guardians or Halo Masterchief Collection is the 23rd, which means even after that, they’ll be sending codes. So not everyone will get access to the warthog from day one, but people will get their codes in due course I’m sure.
