General Motors took the Opel Rekord C, put a different front end on it and produced them in South Africa, Belgium and Switzerland where they were marketed as Ranger (yes, that was a GM brand in between Ford using Ranger as model name both previously and afterwards again). They subsequently introduced a 2nd generation based on the Opel Rekord D which was only produced in Belgium and Switzerland. The engines for the South African built cars were locally built and of Chevrolet origin whilst the Belgian and Swiss cars of both generations used Opel engines.
