Game freezing (Xbox One)

Mine has been doing this since the last update. NO ONE from Forza Support cares to return an email or tweet.

Hey guys,

give this a shot and see if it works. It’s worked in the past for a variety of issues such as the game not communicating with the servers, portions not loading or crashing, general internet issues… In the end, trying it won’t hurt and if it solves the problem then why not, right?

If your console is off - turn it on. If it’s on, continue…
We are going to power cycle the console, follow these steps:
(1) Hold down the power button on the front of your console until you hear a beep and the light turns off.
(2) Unplug the power cord from the wall socket. Leave it plugged into the brick, leave the brick connected to the console for now.
(3) The light on the power brick should change color and eventually turn off; once it does unplug the brick from the console.
(4) Unplug all cables from rear of console.
(5) Press power button.
(6) Plug the power cord into the back of the console first, then into the wall.
(7) [SIDE NOTE: PLUG IN HDMI CABLE] Power on your console. Be patient, this may take a while. The screen will remain black, then it will stay at the Xbox Logo ad green screen for a bit and the dots at the bottom will fill. Eventually it will fully boot up.
(8) Once powered on plug in the cables in the back - internet, Kinect, anything else you had.

Now, we are going to do another test.
(1) Double tap the Xbox button on your controller
(2) Go to Settings —> All Settings
(3) Go to Network —> Network Settings
(4) Scroll to the far right and select the option “Test Multiplayer Connection”
(5) Run the test
(6) Once finished the screen will prompt you to “Press A” - DO NOT!
(7) Hold down the following buttons: Right Bumper, Right Trigger, Left Trigger, Left Bumper until a new menu appears
(8) Wait until the menu populates - the key information you are looking for is the Nat Type and Detailed Nat Info.
—> You want your Nat Type to be open and behind a cone nat.
(a) If your Nat is Open and behind a cone-type nat Skip to Step (9)
(b) If your Nat type is not open or not behind a cone-type nat, press B to return back a Menu.
(c) Return to Step (7) and repeat — if you’ve done this 3 times and nothing has changed, check your internet router settings you may have other issues going on.

(9) Press B to return to the Multiplayer Connectivity Test Menu and follow on-screen prompts
(10) Finish the Multiplayer Connectivity Test

Now that that is finished let’s move on.
(1) Return to the dashboard, locate the icon for Forza Horizon 2.
(2) Launch Forza Horizon 2.
(3) Wait for all menus to load, for any synchronization to complete, and just wait for the game to load up.
(4) From the “Press A to Continue” screen press A and proceed to load into the game.
(5) Once your car loads and you have control, fast travel to one of the speed cameras near the Main Festival.
(6) Drive to your garage and enter.
—> The key thing to look for here is that the game is saving and the save icon is spinning in the corner. This means the game is communicating with Turn 10.
(7) Once the save icon goes away and you are in the garage return to the Xbox Dashboard by pressing the Xbox button.
(8) Highlight the game and press the menu button (3 lines).
(9) From the menu select “Quit”.

Now, we are going to power cycle the console again. (Look above for directions).

After power cycling the console, load up your game and play. Hopefully this helps clear up some of the issues.

It is also good to note which cars in particular the issues may arise with. I was told it’s happening primarily with Japanese cars.

If you find the issue is happening with a group of cars from primarily a single DLC pack, make sure Forza has been “quit”. Then select “Manage Game” from the menu and go to where the DLC is and uninstal the DLC with the problem cars. Then, power cycle the console, instal the problem DLC, load up the game, fast travel near the hub, drive into your garage and let it save, dashboard, quit, and power cycle your console again.

This may help you out as well.

Good Luck.

All the power cycling and such still won’t add the cars I just bought the add on pack for free. Its like the older games where you had to buy them with real world cash then grind the credits. Maybe the crashing thing resolved itself. Haven’t dared to change the sparrow setup though. Just shelving this for other games for awhile until T10 or Playground do SOMETHING.

Oh no, having to use in game credits to buy cars must be so painful. There is no other use for the credits so how do you plan on spending them?

I know people with over 400 cars and over 80 million. Personally, I have tens of millions of credits as well with really no cars to spend them on. If that’s the only issue you’re having I’d consider it okay.

EDIT: By the way, nothing will add the cars to you garage for free. If you bought the DLC you still have to go to the autoshow to “purchase” the cars; however, the first time you do so the cost will be 0 CR. Hope that helps.

The point you so obviously missed is that the cars should be free the first time- they are not. All of the cars from this pack require and ingame purchase with credits. I paid for the dlc, just want the first free car of each you get - nothing more nothing less. That too much to understand? BTW I don’t have 80 or 20 or even 10 million a little shy of 6 trying to save for a couple of the most expensive cars to buy them if you don’t mind. They should be free they are not this is a bug as much as anything else. And it’s not ok to push out content that isn’t properly tested and expect people to just flush away their money 10 dollars is still 10 dollars I am not that much of a fanboy to just take it. As far as I could tell this is a thread relating to the new car pack and update which has messed the game up for a lot of people , maybe they will fix it or not. I will most likely buy some of them regardless after a period of time after I get a couple Aston martins or Ferraris. Credits are just the equivalent of time spent to earn them, I don’t want to give away that much time.

I understand what you are saying.

I also recall a time where this “you get the car for free with purchase” thing was not around and you had to actually put in the time to earn the credits to get the cars With the creation of free with DLC purchase cars, Forza Rewards where you can get up to 2 million credits for free every month, and the increases in credits earned for racing and winning, and the new creation of the prize wheel (prize spins) I also don’t think it’s hard to get credits.

The DLC cars that are free with purchase tend to work. They’ve worked for me since they were introduced in FM5. They worked for all DLC I bought in FH2 (this sub forum) and they have worked every time without fail in FM6. The content is properly tested and it functions more or less properly.

I think you have a valid problem I just think it’s (a) in the wrong place and (b) not as damaging or preventive of gameplay as the problem the thread is discussing. In any case, I will help you because while the two problems are different the solutions are very similar.

When you buy DLC, do not play the game until it installs. If you are buying DLC from within the game, wait for the purchase and download to complete and until it does so do nothing else in the game. Once the download has finished you ought to return to the dashboard, quit the game, and reboot into the game for it to function properly. Turn 10 has stated in the past and many users have confirmed it to help (though I have not always found it necessary) that it helps to power cycle the console before loading the game after the DLC purchase.
—> If you look higher up in this thread at my initial post you can actually follow those steps for the power cycle. If you follow ALL the steps in that post it won’t hurt you in any way.

Hey man long time no talk!

Do you think your above (not the quoted post here oops) advice would help with my situation?

I’ve done two power cycles, uninstalled my profile, reinstalled profile, etc.

Only thing I haven’t tried is deleting the game. Worried it will take my game save with it. SnowOwl has been kind enough to do some digging for me also. I just wanna race again.

Thanks.

Hey Mook, yes I think the advice in my initial post here can help you. Doing the steps in my post may take you 20 minutes but it’s all relatively easy, simple to do things that don’t actually begin altering your data. The steps should help reset some things and ensure that the Xbox is communicating properly when it must communicate with other devices.

Deleting your game will not take your gamesave with it if done properly. That said, it’s a long and tedious process if you have a disc and even more so for a digital copy. You also run into some risks doing this because of known issues with Forza titles specifically. Unfortunately there are times when something goes wrong and you have to do a re-install on the game to remedy the situation.

If you are going to do a re-install here are a few things to keep in mind. Let’s start with the most important one: you do this at your own risk and I, PPiDrive bear no liability for your decisions and actions or the consequences thereof.

(1) With the new update you cannot see your gamesaves from the “manage Game” menu – again. I guess this means you won’t mess with them on accident. This also means you can’t see the file size to see if it’s all there.
(2) YOU be the one in control, don’t uninstall all.
(3) Highlight the game and select Uninstall.
(4) WAIT. Eventually the icon will go away
(5) DIGITAL GAMES: You will see it in the “Ready to Install Section”
DISC GAMES: When you see the game and “Install” over he icon, remove the disc.
(5) Power cycle the console. I know, people always make fun of computers and IT and the whole “Did you turn it off and on again” situation but with the box there is actually very few things you as the user can do with the console. Luckily, they do tend to do the trick so do it.
(6)Boot up the console.

DISC GAMES:
(7) Insert disc.
(8) Select “Install”
(9) When prompted to update select the option to “Update Later”
(10) Let the game install. While it does so do not touch the console. Not literally. Just don’t mess with it, don’t use other apps, don’t turn it off, regardless of the lies Xbo tries to tell, do not play the game when it says it’s ready. It’s like a hot pocket after following the on-box instructions. It thinks it’s ready to eat after a minute but the middle is still frozen. wait for 100% install.
(11) Once the game is installed, boot up.
(12) You will be prompted to update. Do it. Now, go back and re-read step 10. Then proceed to step 13.
(13) Once fully installed and updated you should be at the game menu. Dashboard, highlight the game, and quit.
(14) You know what I’m going to say don’t you? Power cycle.
(15) Turn on your console, load up the game, and let any synchronization finish 100% if it occurs. Since we did not mess with your game save, this should not be an issue.

DIGITAL GAMES:
(7) Go to “My Games & Apps” and find the game. Select Install.
—> Digital Games you cannot opt out of the update until later and so this process of download date and install data simultaneously will take a long time. Internet speeds may alter this time but it will generally be somewhat lengthy.
(8) Let the game install.
(9) Once the game is installed, boot up.
(10) You will be prompted to update. Do it. Now, go back and re-read step 8. Then proceed to step 11.
(12) Once fully installed and updated you should be at the game menu. Dashboard, highlight the game, and quit.
(13) You know what I’m going to say don’t you? Power cycle.
(14) Turn on your console, load up the game, and let any synchronization finish 100% if it occurs. Since we did not mess with your game save, this should not be an issue.

Now, hopefully this helps you out. If for some reason that didn’t do the trick you may have to look at the DLC as well. In this case, I would not use Uninstall All. I would go in and uninstall the game and each piece of DLC individually. Once the game is installed I would power cycle, load the game, and then I’d play a bit to make sure things work well. If they do, force the game to save by fast traveling to the speed camera, driving to the main festival and entering your garage and then quit the game. No proceed to install the DLC one by one. After all the DLC has been installed, power cycle.

If you want to be a little paranoid, you can power cycle and test the game after each individual piece of DLC is 100% installed. At some point, doesn’t hurt I guess, right?

Hope something in this thread is useful to you. Best of luck.

Much appreciated thank you.

Between your help and the help from SnowOwl, I thnk I have the courage to try this now LOL!

Thanks.

Of course I would never place blame on anyone besides the game devs for this being an issue, if something doesn’t go right. Clearly, they shouldn’t be breaking their game to begin with-forcing their paid customers to do such things, just to play a game.

Cheers!

I know but I have to say it, every time.

If you don’t someone will try it, they won’t follow every step exactly, something will go wrong, and then they come here and it’s all my fault. Even if they do everything exactly right and it doesn’t work they still have issues, it’s my fault.

Sure they can still say that, but I did have that disclaimer at the top of my post.

Appreciate the snot out of what your advice was…just didn’t work for me. Game still broken by the Update. Sad Mook.

:frowning:

That sucks. Maybe Snowowl sees his name here and is able to help? You’d think there would be some form of official support to ensure the game is playable…

Have you downloaded the new patch?

SnowOwl is a great man. FACT.

Have not DL the update, am on chat with XBL support currently.

Not to overstate the obvious but shouldn’t you try downloading the FH2 patch and seeing if it fixes the issue?

I tried at two separate times yesterday, hours apart, and I didn’t see an update.

I DO have a ticket in with XBL Support. Fingers crossed.

I get alot of freezes myself. All random, not linked to certain cars. They seem to occur at the more demanding sequences, so big fields and generally where the Graphics are intensive for me. That, and they generally freeze up only the game, and you just have to quit the game and restart it again to get it to launch again - sometimes it fails though, and the game doesn’t launch at all again but instead throws out a “Forza Horizon 2 took too long to launch…” error meaning a hard-reboot is the only option from there.

And now the same, if I drive to the festival from Montellino. :frowning:

Freezes every time in front of the goal. Then after I restarted the game, it works.

It has to say something, that those freezes are reproducible. Maybe Turn10 would be kindly and give us a patch?

So no update as yet! It is down to the V8 engine. If I buy a new R34 and stay away from the V8 then it’s fine. If I go to ‘my tunes’ tab then it will freeze. But I can search for an existing tune and load that way so long as it’s not V8.
