Issue #1
The game, including all its DLC content won’t move from one hard drive to another. Because of its substantial game size, I installed it to a mechanical drive, but found the track loading times to be a bit too long for my taste. I moved other games across using “Steam Mover” (free app to download online & is not limited to steam games), then proceeded to move Forza Motorsport 7 to my SSD using the Apps & Features menu in the Windows Settings menu.
The main game and all DLC content except for 2 DLC packs moved across successfully, and Windows seems to have shortcut linked the DLC content that didn’t transfer to the directory on the SSD.
Solution #1
Navigate to the install directory where the remaining DLCs are, and browse the files to try determine which DLC packs they are. Then open the Windows Settings menu, go to Apps & Features and scroll down to Forza 7. Select it, choose Advanced Settings (this will bring up a list of all installed content under Forza 7 including DLC content & VIP pass etc.) Uninstall the associated DLC packs that haven’t moved directories properly.
Launch the Windows Store, search for Forza Motorsport 7, navigate to the add-on content you just uninstalled & give the store a moment to determine that the DLC isn’t currently installed, which will then give you the install option again. These DLC packs are relatively small, so even on metered connections this should be a convenient workaround. Once done installing, close all open windows and tabs and restart the pc to clear shortcut links previously created by Windows. Rinse & repeat with all affected content.
Issue #2
My game crashes to desktop immediately after launching. To be more specific, the game crashes after a 2 or 3 second display of the Forza Motorsport 7 splash screen. It doesn’t make it as far as a loading screen or the menu.
Solution #2
This issue seems Windows Store related. Pc restarts don’t seem to affect this issue. Follow these steps.
1.) Like before, navigate to your Windows Settings menu, select Apps & Features, and scroll down to Forza 7.
2.) Select Advanced Settings under Forza 7 to reveal the list of all associated content with Forza 7.
3.) If you’re a VIP member, I suggest uninstalling the VIP pack as it’s only 400kb in size. If you’re not a VIP member, any other DLC or add-on content will be fine as they are also quite small in size.
4.) Once the DLC or add-on or VIP pass has been uninstalled, open the Windows Store, search Forza Motorsport 7, find the associated DLC or add-on pack you just uninstalled, and select it. The Windows Store might take a moment to determine that the content has been removed and will give you an install option shortly after (just open the DLC page or add-on page and wait roughly 10sec. The install option will appear)
5.) Install the content, wait for it to finish (should be relatively quick), then close the Windows Store when you’re done.
Removing and re-installing content this way forces the Windows Store to integrity check the last content installed, which resolves the crashing issue. This isn’t a permanent solution and I’ve had to do it once daily since purchasing the game, but even as a first attempt, this should not take more than 2-3min to do which is substantially better than waiting for it to magically start working again.
