I am creating this topic because I am unable to sign in to the new support page, and therefore can’t submit a support ticket.
When launching Forza Horizon 4 on PC, the game crashes after the Playground Games/Turn 10/Microsoft Studios logos, before it can reach the menu screen. If I attempt to launch the game again, I can occasionally reach the main menu, however, there is no audio and I am unable to press ‘Enter’ to start the game.
If I disable all sound devices in my Sound settings on Windows 10, I am able to launch the game no problem, however there is no audio which is clearly not ideal. This was the same workaround I used when playing the Forza Horizon 4 Demo. I have tried enabling all enhancements on my headset (Kingston HyperX Cloud ii, latest firmware update) to no avail.
I am on the most recent build of Windows 10, with the 411 Nvidia driver on a Geforce GTX 980. I have 16GB of RAM and an Intel i7-4771 @ 3.5-3.9 GHz.
I have seen launch issues elsewhere on the forums, but not any relating to audio so I figured I would make a thread. I will submit a support ticket as soon as I am able to.
Following … as I have the same issue, I have multiple options for sound sources i.e realtec on-board audio, a Dell USB sound bar and a Bluetooth wireless headphones all using different drivers and are up to date. but enabling any single one will crash the game at the playground splash screen.
Launching the game with them all disabled and then alt tabbing to enable them still leaves the game running but still without audio, although I do get the achievement notification sounds.
If I reset the games data under “App Settings” I can watch the first 10 seconds of the splash video with sound before crashing, but once it’s done that subsequent launches crash within 1 second of the video starting.
I am using a Corsair VOID RGB Wireless Headset for my primary audio device. Game freezes every time at the exact same spot on the Turn 10 logo until I disable the device in the sound settings. Re-enabling it does not crash the game, but there is no sound.
none of my five audio output devices work. If one is enabled the game crashes after the second intro logo.
That bug was in the demo already. The only way to fix it is to disable all audio devices.
My Mainboard uses the Realtek® ALC892 Codec. But even with the Microsoft audio drivers it won’t start.
My only fix so far is disabling all audio and playing deft, my spatial is already disabled, had this same problem with fh3 but the root cause was a corrupted profile, which fixed it by disabling the pc as offline computer and the store, running, and reenabling. But now can’t fix fh4…
I have been having the same issue. If I disable my audio it starts up just fine. Maybe this can be an issue related to the realtek software? I have about 200 hours in Horizon 3 and never once did a situation like this occur. Please keep us up to date on a potential fix,I’ll keep looking myself as well
Same issue here. I have an Arctis 5 USB headset and the game crashes everytime on the Turn 10 logo. Enabling or disabling spacial sound doesn’t change anything.
The game works fine if I unplug my usb headset, or if I use a jack adapter to plug it directly into my motherboard jack, but that means I can’t use my mic anymore. So it seems like the game is having issues only with usb headsets, while jack headsets are working fine.
OK, so i have been dealing with this problem for days, i found out theat if i have my 2 monitors plugged in AND my WMR headset plugged in or a 3rd monitor it wouldnt start, unplugged my headset and BOOM im in.
I am having this same issue as well. I can also add another vote for looking at USB headsets. I use a Jabra Speak 410 USB for Skype conference calls. If it is plugged in Forza crashes. If I unplug it. Forza does not crash. I’m not sure what the game is up to but if I try to start Forza while I am on a conference call, As soon as the Turn 10 screen is done, where it always crashes, there is a good 1.5 to 2 seconds of static coming out of the Jabra, and then the game crashes.
I have not been able to play since the Windows 10 update that just came out recently. Game keeps crashing after I select continue. Recently I have been playing with my Realtek sound but have had my Astro Mixamp plugged in. I switched over to the mixamp and disabled Spatial sound and I was able to at least complete one race and then it crashed. So I was actually able to play. I am also having issues with State of Decay 2 (I have the game pass) that game also will not get past the menu before crashing.
This is the exact problem I am having. Ever since the Windows update I crash after hitting “continue”. I don’t have any headset plugged in, reinstalled graphics drivers, don’t have spatial sound enabled, and tried disabling various things but it repeatedly crashes after clicking continue. I have not crashed once since the release of the game until now.
Sorry to ‘thread bomb’, I was having this issue (and now it can be managed); game would crash at the Copyright Microsoft 2018 screen. I run a GTX1080.
I have a friend who runs a 9 series GPU and he has no issues at all. After numerous trials (reset, reinstall etc…), I have reverted my Nvidia drivers back to 411.70 - cured it instantly. I have seen reports of the new RTX drivers causing issues, don’t forget that they also include sound drivers. The issue now returns sporadically but unplugging USB devices resolves it. I am considering going back to 399.24 (Pre RTX) to see if that cures it completely.
Had the same issue (Alienware 13 R3 Laptop), updated Realtek Drivers and changed some audio settings (using 24bits / 48KHz by default) and it worked again.
