Currently there are 4 Daytona Prototype cars in the game, spread out over 2 divisions:
2020 Acura #6 ARX-05 DPi - Forza Proto-H - Reward
2021 Cadillac #31 Whelen Racing DPi-V.R - Forza Proto H - Car Pass
2015 Chevrolet #10 Konica Minolta Corvette Daytona Prototype - Forza P2 - Showroom
2015 Ford #02 Chip Ganassi Racing Riley Mk XXVI Daytona Prototype - Forza P2 - Showroom
I think it would be better to group these cars together in their own division. Mainly the Proto-H cars do not belong in the division they’re currently placed in, but the P2 cars aren’t true LMP2 cars either.
Having only 4 cars in the division should make balancing easier, but the class could use more. Be sure to vote on more Daytona Prototypes with DP-Racing!
The DPi cars are closer to the Proto H cars to me. But I would love for some more DP cars to be added. Toyota Doran (Doran Lista Racing) and Porsche Fabcar (Brumos Porsche) come to mind. These could be great additions even if T10 were to keep the cars in P2. It would atleast add some variety to the class. Best I could recommend is to vote. Vote on the class and go vote on the cars. They’re on the list. And if you don’t see one you’re looking for add it to the car suggestions hub. Would love to see some more Daytona Prototypes.
Upon doing some research, i think this is a highly ill-advised suggestion for these reasons :
•Firstly, that the DPs go up against LMP2s in the Forza P2 class isn’t a bad thing as DP and LMP2 did compete in a unified Prototype class in IMSA in the mid-2010 until DPi was worthy of having it’s own class. The only cars in FP2 that are exceptions are the Oreca 07s and the Chevrolet Oreca Prototype Challenge class car (the latter arguably deserves a separate class as it isn’t close to an LMP2 of any kind come to think of it).
•Next, the reason why putting together DP and DPi doesn’t work is because these cars are not relevant to eachother. While both follow a similar design philopsohy (bespoke select off-the-shelve chassis with manufacturer bodywork and OEM engines), DPi is a big revolution as this ruleset forced manufacturers to use 2017 LMP2 ruleset chassis (amongst them was indeed the Oreca 07 chassis on wich the acura is based on).
Arguably, DPi is near-identical to LMDH, the ruleset the SC63, V series R etc are based on with the only significant difference being a spec Bosch hybrid system. It’s because of that that, imo, DPi belongs in Proto-H. Even LMP1 cars used LMP2 chassis as a basis at times, notebly the Rebellion R13 wich would be used by Alpine in WEC in the early days of the Hypercar class, and we all know the Caddy and BMW are now active in said class today. The logic behind the decision the developers took then is sound.
•On a separate note, we absolutly shouldn’t make classes for the sake of having more classes to fit real life accuracy unless there’s genuine good reasoning for it. That might do more harm than good.
The rare time i come across threads like this seems to highlight that there is a genuine disconnection between most players and real motorsports wich could explain some of these frankly crazy ideas for division restructuring (there have been one or two good suggestions by other users though, for example for GTX and that should be upvoted). That said, i do not see myself as an expert on this, but if you watch too much motorsport like me, you’ll eventually read up a lot of things that are usefull for these threads.
That said, this might get me thinking about how a potential restructuring of this class could look like if done right, so mayhaps i’ll revisit this thread if it come up with something.
One night of sleep later, this is what i came up with, and i think this is much better suited than what you’re suggesting if we really want to overhaul this class.
•Forza P2/DP : Both Mazda Lola cars + Chevrolet Corvette DP + Ford Multimatic DP
•Forza Prototype Challenge / Chevrolet Oreca FLM09 spec series : Chevrolet Oreca FLM09 (This car was in it’s own class in IMSA/Grand-Am and ACO competition and even had it’s own one-make series). Additionally, i would make the suggestion of temporarily until we get a second, showroom, LMP3 car to include the gen 1 LMP3 ligier so that it finally can be used in an online spec series (specifications also don’t look too different with the only concern being downforce) but that may be contrary to my previous statements.
•Oreca 07 spec series : Both Oreca 07s. If we do end up getting a Ligier, Dallara and/or (somehow) the Multimatic chassis, then we can rebrand this class to Forza P2 2.0.
•The DPi cars stay in Proto-H because, as previously mentioned, they are akin to LMDH cars minus the spec hybrid system. LMDH was also created with ACO convergence in mind, wich has the LMH reg cars like the Peugeot, Ferrari and Bykolles Vanwall. Fun fact, originally LMDH was announced as “DPi 2.0” and i think you now realize why!
