Ford Australia Barra 4.0L I6 NA/Turbo Engine Swap

Ford Australia’s Barra is possibly the greatest motor produced in Australia, and I feel it should come to Forza, as a swap option for the Falcons (and possibly the Holdens/HSVs), as well as other Ford vehicles, other large sedans/muscle cars, and up to anything that currently gets the similar 2JZ swap.

The Barra is a family of 3984cc Fuel Injected DOHC Inline 6 engines, with came from the factory either naturally-aspirated or fitted with a single turbo. The NA factory builds are the Barra 182, Barra 190, and Barra 195, the numbers referencing output in kilowatts, and the turbocharged builds are the Barra 240T, Barra 245T, Barra 270T, Barra 310T, and the Barra 325T, just to give you an idea of the factory/street build power ranges.

In the aftermarket space, they’re an alternative to the 2JZ, and people are getting to 220kw and above with naturally aspirated builds, and turbo builds can get north of 1000kw. This does put it into a similar box as the 2JZ, but Barra builds will have more torque down to the larger engine size. They’re also a good alternative to a V8, as they produce similar power but reduce weight over the front end, which aids handling. Crucially, they also give us some Australian automotive representation, and I think more people should have the opportunity to experience Australia’s best engine.

100% agree this is a great shout. I think we overlook the Aussie car community but they build some powerhouses

This will be nice to have more engines in the game

Forza really needs more engine swaps. Everything indicates towards this engine being a perfect fit for the series. Even though the “3.0 Racing I6” may be enough for many people, it’s too common and the Barra would not only offer more variety as an additional choice, but also more variety in power and upgrades. We’d finally have an I6 engine from a different manufacturer than BMW, Nissan or Toyota.

Just put the FG FPV Typhoon and have the motor available for conversion with a limited number of other vehicles

Tuning the 1965 Mustang GT for this week’s Forzathon Challenge has reminded me about this suggestion, because the Engine Swap options for this car are legitimately lackluster. We should be able to shove in the Coyote 5.0 V8, the Voodoo 5.2 V8 from the GT350R, as well as the engine of this Suggestion, the Barra 4.0 I6.
