[FIT] Clyde's Paint Booth [21/8 - MADE TO ORDER: Labatt 50 Cuda]

Clyde … awesome work. Can’t wait to see how the Shelby ends up. Not sure if I’m just not doing something right or what … but my logos don’t seem to look as clean and crisp as yours do on the door. Is there some kinda ‘trick’ that you’ve mastered that I don’t know about?? Keep up the good work.

Actually, I often wondered why sometimes I can get logos that small without much of a problem, and sometimes I need to make them huge lest they become a mess of pixels. Mind you, they’re as small as I can get them on the Shelby, if I rescale them to .80 they become a blur. It is an interesting topic that deserves further discussion and research, but I’m starting to think that the threshold of rescaling changes from car to car, and that matte finishes are also more tolerant of downscaling of layer groups. Also, it seems that the less you downscale a layer group the better it looks - I usually pre-scale all my logos in the vinyl group editor, so they’re usually at 50 - 20% size on the car. But I’m probably seeing things here.

Well, I am glad to run into someone that might be willing to talk about it … and give some advice or at least some thoughts about your experiences. Appreciate it. I want my paints to be as clean, crisp and accurate as possible … but some of them look a little lacking in those departments sometimes. I’ve thought about some of the things you brought up before and wondered if they might make a difference. Now that I’ve seen some of your results, I may go back and tinker some with my designs and see if I can get a little better result. I typically build my vinyls in the editor pretty large … as it’s easier to work with larger shapes when building intricate designs. So are you saying you scale them down fairly significantly before applying them to the cars? Or do you actually create them that small in the editor to start with?

I create them large, then rescale them before grouping.

And I’m glad to help in any way I can.

The stang is looking really good! I like the old eyes better but the new version still looks good.

Love the Keihin CRX! Looks brilliant with the retro livery. The Shelby looks great as well

Keep it up

It’s good to see the CRX done mate and it looks great! I really like the retro stuff and the Ferrari project is awesome! The mustang is coming along nicely too. Such great stuff coming out of you. Keep it up!

Thanks for the feedback! A couple of vintage liveries are coming up, and I am already laying the groundwork for my next major release behind the scenes (it has to do with a certain Japanese brand of soft drinks which recently went viral with a promo vid).

In the meanwhile, there’s another update for the GT500. It’s nowhere near finished (the hood, front and rear are still bare), but… We’re making progress.

Yay! Ponies! No, I’m not a Brony, but what can I say? It works for me. I was tempted to go for the classic cowl pin up design, but I couldn’t pass on this incredibly lame pun. Also note the killmarks: of course they’re Chevy logos.

Loving the CRX, and the GT500 is looking really sharp, great work

Top work mate as always

A new day, a new paint! This is a replica of the #7 Team Camoradi Maserati Tipo 61 “Birdcage” chassis 2458, as driven to victory by sir Stirling Moss at the 1960 Cuban GP (the last international auto race in Cuban history). There’s not much more I can tell you about the history of this chassis - contrarily to the GTO, the Birdcage Maseratis are a historian’s nightmare.

As you may notice by looking at photos of the real deal, the design of the stripe was asymmetric: I decided to replicate this weird stylistic choice (probably dictated by the asymmetry of the car itself)… Which made an apparently simple livery a lot harder to reproduce. The colors are also as accurate as they can get - I have done my research on the Chevrolet paints used by the Camoradi team.

The livery is available now on my SF. Tags: Camoradi, Cuban , 2458

Nice work with the Maserati mate, keep it up! I am really digging the vintage style. Keep it up.

Clean, simple, vintage - my cup 'o tea! Awesome work.

Hello there!

Thanks for all the good feedback on my past adventures in the paint booth. There’s a lot more coming, but I decided to refrain from posting early WIPs of paints that may not even come to fruition. However, this is a finished livery - and it’s quite special, as it’s a commission from MR BL0NDE 27 over at Global Sim Racing. The car’s going to compete in the CAM series, and so far it’s the only Plymouth entered, so it’s surely going to stand out!

But what’s more impressive is that I managed to get the livery done in 3 days, which is a personal record for me.

Nice paints mate very retro like

This, and this is why I like them!

That Labatt’s 'Cuda is awesome mate, kinda reminds me of my Molson NSX. Really great job on this one!
