First Month Review

Ive been playing racing games for many years and there are a lot of things I like about this game. Sadly there are so many things wrong with it.
Is there a manual? A website? This site seems to be just an add and a forum. Where is the game website explaining the game or a manual? I didn’t pay $100+ to have to go hunting on wiki or redit to learn how to play.

Can we please have the ability to sort 700 cars please… I like the car tiles but the order makes no sense. A separate live tile with “list view” or spreadsheet style with current car stats that you can sort..weight,power,etc…lots! A reset all cars to stock button would be nice.. (can we know what the “stock” engine is?) Also can we have more then one grouping other then “favorites” maybe a “hidden” list too? Its so bad trying to look through your cars, do you people even like cars???

I mostly play first person driver view and most of the cars don’t have rearview mirrors or you only see half of it. Yes you can change the FOV and it helps on a few, but not really.
The glare on the window is so bad.. didn’t I get some sunglasses instead of a Ferrari. Maybe if you wear the sunglasses you don’t get as bad glare on your window. Just an idea.
(heads up display on window, maybe a working car gps)… lets just get the mirrors in the cars working first though.

It would be nice to pay to change the driver side in the car also.. Chop tops?

Hard to see the white roads on the map in the winter time.

The metal paint colors look to glossy in the thumbnails.

Racing… A “race again” button would be nice.
The online adventure games are way to hard.. maybe give the NPCs slower cars or something. Way too much loading time to watch people quit over and over and over…
I choose online adventure, it says road.. its all cross country.. I choose dirt.. its all on the roads.. I get knocked off the road by car, I go to knock a car and go through it and into a tree. (ON OR OFF cause that is stupid) That or I get run off the road by a teammate who’s got all the assists turned on. More options for the online adventures would be nice.. wheel players only.. assists off only… etc.

Why no chat? I cant do anything with other players if we cant talk. Most frustrating thing about this game..

There are so many things wrong with the gameplay and the menus … I feel bad for the guys who did the physics, car models, snow, mud.. that’s all great! (besides the mirrors and glare)
This was my first forza game.. except I did buy 7 at the same time as horizon 4.. cause I saw you could share car paints and stuff between games.. oh ya that didn’t work either…
This will be my last forza game.

It feels like this game was made by people who hate cars and gamers. (why am I not surprised by this)

Like snoop dog just said.. don’t try to fix the world gates just fix your game!

The game doesn’t have a lot of car spec info in garage menus but you can see stock data in my www.bit.ly/FH4spreadsheets or at www.kudosprime.com

It sounds like you just need to explore the game more as a lot of the things you requested are already in place. I’m not sure why you say the order makes no sense in the garage, it is sorted by manufacturer.
It doesn’t make too much more sense than that; however, you can sort the garage, by year and class and there are a few other options, but I cannot remember them right now. All cars can be reset to stock from the upgrade menu, press the button that looks like two squares on your controller and move down to reset to stock upgrades. As far as the stock engine goes, well obviously that is the engine that comes in the car, which is always the first option under engine swap. Unless you are referring to the displacement, which can be seen by pressing ‘y’, I think, in the upgrade screen.

The AI in Online Adventure are tuned to match the PI of the cars players are driving, if you are having trouble try decreasing the drivatar difficulty. They cannot control other players, but I’m curious as to how you know when people are driving with all assists on.

I have never noticed the lack of a rearview mirror in first person, that seems like an odd complaint.

You are able to import tunes and paints from FM7 to FH4.

It just seems like you need to explore the game more to be able to enjoy it. Games haven’t come with manuals in years.

No offence but the last thing I want to do with most of the players I meet is chat or hear them chat.

Poor analysis of the whole game to be honest.

Doesn’t XBOX party include a chat function with it?

If you played racing games for many years, I doubt there is a need for a manual since most racing games have a career mode that guides you along the process.

The story mode is expected to be a learning curve for whoever needs to ramp up.

I never felt the need for wiki to understand how this game works, every screen comes with list of actions possible displayed on the screen along with button to press for triggering. That game is accessible to disabled people, says a lot about effort on this aspect. Nevertheless it does not mean it does not come with misses and inconsistencies.

there are a few basic filters available but I share so many are obviously missing. Bulk actions are not available in FH, only one by one but you can still reset car to stock. I would have preferred to have a garage by “house” you have on the map. Combining with favorites it would have been a good way to allow people to organize their cars. That said, agreed, sorting by weight or power etc looks more important for a racer than sorting by price but game is not done by and for racing fans, it just relies on an engine done by some.

Agree

Agree that the restart loosing progress logic is kind of difficult to get. Same is for missing change car in rivals which forces you to back to road and loose several minutes just to change car or even just to load another tune. Why allowing to change tune and block loading another still a mystery to me…

Non Player Characters online ??? other the playlist trial, I see no place with drivatars online… actual non beginner players are usually ways more difficult to beat than unbeatable drivatars

Game design issue, they made it loosing a big deal like in ranked where loosing a race means loosing points. This stupidity pushes people to adopt aggressive play, leave strategies and for the few times I went to ranked, you don’t end it having had a good time, relaxed … you are stressed, upset, possibly raging inside against the game, some rammers, yourself … non ranked is far ways better, you win good, you loose … next, just playing and you improve anyway. Just missing a difficulty level to avoid long time players landing on beginners championships.

For dirt, only few races are fully dirt, some are too much asphalt and one cross country, it could be much better, player created races prove it, no way to deny it. For road racing, sorry, I do not have in mind some cross country tracks in road racing …

Ghosting comes with high difference of speed to block full speed bombing, still game creators stated they consider that ramming is fun.

T10 is afraid not to have enough players to start a game considering those filters. The bottleneck of it is that not having such filters is causing people to leave the game. They started something with custom championships but by blocking starting with 1 player, it requires at least 2 people coming at the very same moment to look for a specific type of race to be able to start one … Except weekends and S1/A no coll, feature is like dead because of that poor design move.

You mean public chat ? there is but I did not get the logic of when people hear or not hear you. After there is private chat that works pretty good most of time.

Agree on the menus topic, it is nice look and time loss/frustration generator and full of crazy things like proposing player to report his own stuff …

Transferring from FH3 to FH4 worked pretty well for me but you possibly mean transferring things you did download from other creators which is not allowed afaik.

It was made by people who are simply not cars/racing fans.

as T10 is listening only if it can brings more players to start playing, most infuriating/non sense/time loss generating things are simply not fixed.

As to the comment about knowing what engine is in a car stock I feel that is more prevalent on older model cars than newer ones. For the most part the new cars in game generally only offer one engine or are separated by a difference in model names to help differentiate between engine offerings.

The older Forza games used Dodge’s 440 six pack in the 69 charger, and the 426 Hemi in all the other mopar muscle cars. But the only way you knew that was the case was if you checked displacement and horsepower figures in the stats of the vehicle. Unfortunately now ALL classic Mopar muscle cars in the game share the Hemi with identical HP and torque figures.

So I can understand you wanting to know more info on each car and I would agree that it would add depth to the “car culture” side of horizon. Maybe Forzavista brings back the audio files like from Forza 4’s autovista to give us some interesting history or engineering aspect of the car we are viewing. Lots of difficulty creating that but I would find it very worthwhile.

It must be difficult to start playing games like Forza Horizon 4 almost 2 years after the inital launch. In September/October 2018 it was much easier and simpler. There were less cars, only one playing area, less things to do and an easier to follow natural progression.

Since then there have been numerous additions and having played the game from launch date I have appreciated the additions and I still look forward to the weekly Forzathon challenges. Playground Games did try to address the lack of natural progression with the Star Card and Horizon Life progression menus but it must still be a bit confusing for players new to the series.

Some people may prefer racing on tracks such as the Forza Motorsport series rather than an open world game with numerous different types of challenges. The Motorsport series certainly has an easier to follow progression. I don’t know many games which come with an extensive manual and the last one I read was a 156 page manual which was included with the Collector’s Edition of Forza Motorsport 2.

Fans and commercial organisations produce walkthroughs, hints and playing guides for some games but with Forza Horizon 4 there’s so much to do that information can be a bit fragmented.

ManteoMax has already mentioned car spreadsheets e.g.

Some car lists are sorted by make, model but with so many cars I find that sorting by make, year descending, model is the easiest way to find individual cars. On some of the in-game menus occasionally sorting is slightly off.

Playground Games, Turn 10 and Microsoft of course have official sites and some players like Reddit, Twitter and Wiki. Then there are YouTube videos covering many aspects of the game.

Personally I’m sorry if the game didn’t meet your expectations but for me it’s the game I’ve enjoyed most in many years of gaming. I’ve tried many other series such as Gran Turismo and Need For Speed but for me they were very short lived and a waste of money. For me possible improvements for an open world game would be the ability to get out of the car, walk round inside houses and control vehicles such as motorbikes, boats and aircraft. If we can have a Fast & Furious edition why not an edition/add-on similar to GTA but perhaps that’s impossible to achieve.
